The 30 Year Expedition Video is a wonderful example of what two dedicated people can do. Fred Schuler and Aleta Karstad are amazing scientists who have maintained their passion for nature and art for decades.
I look forward to seeing more videos that will result from the 30 Year Expedition.
Great Stuff! I haven't seen a mud puppy myself since I was a small Child. Amphibians such as these are our " canaries in a coldmine" when it comes to ecosystems and their health.
"The 30 Years Later project is not only exceedingly ambitious, it is vital.... The original expeditions over the past 30 years produced comprehensive and elegant documentation of a broad spectrum of ecosystems in North America. The exquisite paintings by Aleta are gems of art and observation. I look forward to the results of 30 Years Later. This project deserves wide support and the wide-eyed attention of all Canadians and beyond. The world needs more teams like Aleta and Fred." - Robert Bateman
This expedition is a significant way to measure the change in the environment that has occurred in the last thirty years-something everyone is concerned about. It will provide us with comparative data to measure impact and to give us guidelines on how to better steward our legacy- the wild.
Congratulations to Aleta on being named Canadian Geographic's Environmental Scientist of the Year!
