Nice review, Mark. Angst were definitely one of the most underrated SST bands - and a tribute to Greg Ginn that he signed bands he liked - not bands he thought he should sign. This is probably their best known record (if there even is such a thing as a best known Angst album)....but all their albums are quite good (although the first s/t EP that originally came out on Happy Squid isn't nearly as good as the rest). Mending Wall is definitely deserving of a few listens.
OK, maybe they are underappreciated by younger people, but Greg Ginn actually appreciated their sound. the thing is that, as far as Wikipedia says, by the time Angst got signed, SST started releasing a billion albums per day so maybe major distributors would take a look at the label (they failed, though). but i guess Ginn liked the band, consdering that he featured them on the second "Blasting Concept" compilation, along with all those bands you name at the beginning. THE ENB.
i always dug 'em. i didn't think this was the first one though. i had a tape from 1983. i believe it was self titled ep. it starts with the tune "neil armstrong". it has a great song called "just another day". big sst fan. had almost everything they put out when i was growing up.
keep up the good work, mark. i think i've read the entire contents of your site by now...
I number zeroe'd after seeing this. Been a balding male like yourself, since the tender age of 24. Number one seemed to do the trick so far, but damn, if you don't look cool for a zero. Hell..
