Spain was the first defeat of democracy, previous second world war against fascist. The film does not quite 'say it all'. In general I agree with Christy's sentiments: but the Spanish Civil War,like the native Gaelic people of Ireland, had the same one enemy. Let us say who that enemy was and is. Moreover, the Falangists carried the war forward into Italy and Germany. Whatever about Frank Ryan, we certainly know where the IRA were -- the same place as the ratliner church! It wasn't just the Blueshirts of UCD. All the Irish seemed to be involved on the one side....
