I have owned a .500 A-Square Hannibal rifle (600 grain bullet at 2400fps), since 1996. This flick does indeed demonstrate correct firing procedure. If you just grab the rifle and squeeze the trigger, it can hurt you.
@flashn00b the cartridge is/was not designed for hunting.. It was designed for a VERY limited use.. For professional guides who guide clients of dangerous game.. The client, of course, gets the opportunity to kill the animal, but when it charges -- and the client misses -- then the professional guide has to step-in and end the situation.. Often, at this point, the Pro only has one shot available.. This is the gun/cartridge for the job.
Very basic question. Why the insistence on no muzzle brake? From a practical stand point it would seem like a no brainer. Imagine a riffle like the Harris Rhino with no brake? Sure it would be fun to watch someone shoot it but it would also take your shoulder out and what's the point of that?
@paaaatrika A Namibian PH named Oosthuizen was guiding an elephant hunt when the client wounded the elephant with 2 bad shots(foot & tusk). Oosthuizen was almost killed trying to finish off the elephant. He went straight to A-squares owner Art Alphin and asked for the biggest rifle he could make, preferably a .577 NE. The NE wouldnt work because of the flanged rim so Art designed a rimless .577 that SURPASSES the .577NE.
great control, I myself have been getting more into the bigbore shooting. and that is 100% true, the recoil of elephant guns really isn't all that bad, if you have a soft recoil pad and hold it tight enough then you'll be fine. the same is true for more powerful guns like the 2-bore, which has 500lbs of recoil it forces you back but it won't knock you over and as for things like the 700 nitro express which I withint the past few months got the pleasure of shooting, it's the same thing
@WiccaIsGood Dont get me wrong i love overkill as much as anyone, i hunt baby pigs with a .270, but each individual .557 cartridge is roughly $100 dollars
you might be a red neck if your house smells like gun powder, you might be a red neck if your cristmas tree lights are made from used tyrannosaur shells, you might be a red neck if you spend more on guns than you did on your house, you might be a red neck if you bought your wife a .500 magnum just so you can have something to play with, and last but not least, you might be a red neck if you have shot shell candles and a gun box (mail box shaped like a gun)
@galsberk no, he is a good shooter but nobody will go flying from this gun, put 80% of your weight on your front foot and have only the tip of your toe on your other foot on the ground so it'll sorta roll you back, then you hold that beast tightly in your shoulder, not chest, shoulder, and you have to be prepared to fire it and not afraid to fire it either, otherwise you'll have very bad consequences
@BB1951 no,everyone thinks that recoil is horrible in this gun, if you've been reading my comments, it is a very powerful recoil but it's not gonna make you fly if you hold it right, I'm freaking 13 and have shot guns bigger than this, it's recoil looks just like in this video if held right.
Biggest thing I've ever shot (aside from a .50 bmg, it had a muzzle brake so it didn't count) was a .416 remington mag. I'd love to try a Tyrannosaur, in fact I'm considering building one from a Martini action.
agree, nice skill with this beast. I know a lot of people seem to not understand the holding tight to your shoulder part, even with something like a 12 gauge. Makes a huge difference.
I remember I was around 12, shooting my grandfathers 10 gauge, got scared shitless because my 16 year old cousin fell flat on his ass after using it. My grandpa taught me exactly how to hold it, and everything was fine... Gotta know how to handle it.
Damn!! You handle the recoil like it's nothing. I've learned alot about big bore shooting technique watching you and some of the other guys on here. Thanks for posting the vid.
At the beginning stage it should leave a bruise.(even if you know the correct stance)
But then you pretty much get the hang of it and don't get a bruise because your body begins conditioning. Also since it doesn't hit(impact) you but basically pushes u back it shouldn't be so hard to get the hang of it.
PS:I know that the 577 T-Rex is the most powerful rifle.
I Love this rifle. If I had this rifle, I would hunt Jack Link.

What is this caliber used for? Big game or just for sport? Can't they add some kind of muzzle break?

Is it 23inch barrel?
And able to put amuzzle brake?
wby460jp 1 year ago
@wby460jp you dont need a muzzlebreak, it wont hurt you, in a 15lbs rifle it feels like a 2-oz magnum load through a 12-ga 3-1/2" gun
