Some cat5 cable does not have that string. I make these same terminations at work. Very good video. It is hard to explain to new employees the proper procedure and to follow print.
It is my prerogative. There are many tools indeed! There are also a variety of ways or methods to accomplish this and other tasks. If you do not feel comfortable using sharp objects.. in this case "scissors", you are free to use a different method. Always use caution when using scissors, sharp blades, sharp objects or knives. Always use common sense and Safety First!
Excellent video! Only thing that I noticed was that you didn't pull the string down about an inch or so, after making the initial cut of the outer cable...in the event that you knick the inner-cabling while making your first cut. I have made that mistake a few time and had to start all over again...so it is always good to pull the string down a bit and start with "fresh" wiring. Do you agree?
That is a good observation and your feedback it's Greatly Appreciated!
Thanks C3DesignBuild for stopping by!
PS. I'm always open for feedbacks and observations; such as yours... That's the only way we can all contribute , learn , and help each other. Thanks again!
Thank you for the video, it help me alot as i'm going to network my entire home with cat5 cables and i still have to find the crimper and the testing tools, but at the end of the video wasn't it suposed all the lights on both testing devices be on? Like at the same time glowing in sequence? Cause in the 2nd testing tool i can see a red light that means that the signal isn't reaching the other terminal?
You're very welcome SKarmytech. I'm glad that it did help you and hope that everything goes well with your installation. There is are two testers, take a closer look at the one on the left side which is the one that contains all the wire connections; my mistake that I took it off the screen and it shows the right one blinking red. At the end of the video the left tester is lit up from top to bottom. Thanks for your comment.
I think pair brown at one end is reversed! ;)

One more thing. The red blinking light that you see on the right tester is the Power light. The left side shows from 1&2 through7&8
rapidly green blinking lights from top to bottom. :-) (just to clarify). Thanks and Good Luck!

Thank you for the info and keep it up.

@SKarmytech red means the pair are reversed.
example: white-strip and brown one end is presented brown and white-strip brown to the other on 7 and 8 plug terminals..
