  • Come on guys, V8's are great. But that doesn't mean that they are the best.... (They are in a lot of cases). But there is better technology, for example this Ecoboost.

    I just wish it could at least sound like a v8.

  • i work for ford and have serviced several of these ecoboost f150s and i am quite surprised as to how well these engines hold up with varying amounts of mileage and to all of you uneducated morons out there who say junk and it sucks go do your homework and get off your fucking high horses

  • After many years of supporting Am'erican cars i finaly gave into Toyota. I got tired of all the breakdowns on the street and parts breaking apart. 2010 Silverado is the worst truck in the world

  • as much as i hate to admit it being the owner of 5 ford pick ups, 3 of which were built in Canada and like most of you the patriot in me is proud of this, but direct injection, ovhc, vvt and turbo chargers are not new technologies, european manufactures have been using this stuff in gas motors for decades to improve economy without sacrificing power, not to sound like a conspiracy nut but pressure from oil companies and the government is the main reason we're just getting this now

  • They never ran the motor without anti-freeze. This would overshadow the B.S. about 'torture' testing. A good motor should be able to drive the entire length of Death Valley without coolant. But this would require quality metals. Any beer-can engine can go 160 000 mi. Aluminum = big profits. What % of consumers actually buy?

  • @seapeddler the only engines i ever seen run with out coolant is in the derby and they do not last long no new engine with cats on the exuast will last with out coolant .AND WHAT CONSUMERS WANT TO BUY IS F-150 'S THE BEST SELLING VEIHICAL IN THE WORLD.

  • I wanted a RAPTOR but couldn't get it in a four door so I leased a Ford EcoBoost, Now i'm loving that truck so much!!!!!! If I can get a Eco Boost in the Raptor I will get that in two years...... If Ford makes a V8 EcoBoost THAT WOULD BE INSAIN!!!!!!!

  • Dude, the idea is to produce equal or same hoersepower and torque as a 5.7 V8, is not a race car. The goal is met because this conundrum not only produces higher HP but is best in it's class for torque!!! The point is...gets better torque and HP than most V8's with higher gas mileage!!! that is called efficiency.

  • Even if something went wrong with the engine or transmission I'm pretty sure you would never hear about it. It would be a PR nightmare for Ford. I would hope that the truck would be able to deal with this type of abuse it's a brand new truck. Why not give it too a contractor too use for 3 years with Ford not being involved and then perform the torture test. These tests are controlled so if anything went wrong you would never know.

  • They should drop this Eco boost 3.5L V6 in the 2012 Ford Ranger(if they make one) the 2.3L and the 4.0L just dont have the ability to compete with some of the new midsize trucks

Your gonna see 1993-2011 Ford Rangers on the road for a very long time, its impossible to kill them, you can beat the shit out of a Ranger, dog it, run it offroad, and not take care of it and it will still run 300K+ miles

Its gonna be pretty stupid when every other automaker sells a compact truck exept Ford, I guess if you want a Ford truck now you have to spend $20,000 more to buy the f-150

  • @XBOYZ45 Your right about that. Why not buy a 2012 ecoboost f-150 4x4 with 365h.p and 420ftlbs of torque and get 25mpg. Whereas your loaded Ford Ranger 4x4 4.0 would only get 18mpg

  • @GoGoggansGo Ya, I know lots of people who are sad to see it go, And I think if FOrd just did some updates to it (like a bigger engine and possibly heavier payload capabilitys) it would sell even better. Most people I know who own rangers love them, only met 1 that didnt. Heck My Ranger has over 200k miles on it and still going strong.

My 93 4.0H.O that my dad ordered new with ford racing suspension and an mustang gt 8.8 with 3.55 gears under 150000 and I have done alot to the motor and it runs better now than it did new. Its going in a car show on saturday =)

  • @GoGoggansGo Ya mine is far from show quality hahaha, its seen more than its fair share of abuse, mine has a 8.8 with 3.73 gearing with a 5 speed. For a 17 year old truck with over 200k miles it still has a lot of get up and go! I hear of people dog on Little Rangers but they really are great little trucks. I had some one tell me that my ranger was good for no more then 200k miles, well its over 200k and still kicking! I know of quite a few that have over 200k some have over 300k on em.

  • @AllAlaskan907 my dumbass uncles sezied up after 35000 he didnt change the oil for 50000. But mine was custom made and order by my father he retired from Chicago Stamping 32 years. I have put close to 3000 into the truck stage 2 clutch and too many replaced parts to list included many performance part MSD etc pulstar plasma plugs custom ram air, ford racing lightning side pipe. and an 93 bama octane tune

  • @AllAlaskan907 I wish i had 3.73 but going from 3.55 to 3.73 is pointless and putting 4.10s with the bama tune I would get like 15 on the hwy sorry no thanks. Its just hard to make more power with the 4.0s there no that much to do to them expesally before 97 without the ecu computer. I would like an BBK thottle body. If you want more info on the 4.0 and other rangers go to the rangerstation website and there is a Facebook seperate site called rangermilitia I am there as well my truck is listed.

  • @Davaith yeah, a 3.5 liter turbo 6 is cheating. put a supercharger on a gm 5.3 and pull the plugs and injectors out of two cylinders and see how fast it goes or how much gas it uses.

  • @Davaith the tubochargers produce only 12 psi max. so no, it does not double its displacement. that would require about 14 psi. the ecoboost is not cheating, it just raised the bar... a lot. every deisel uses turbochargers.

  • @MotoX179 no.. in 1983 dodge introduced the first turbodeisel. but today, almost all diesel engines are turbocharged. gasoline or diesel, a turbo is a turbo and most diesel trucks dont have problems with thier turbos. i doubt people would even consider buying a N/A diesel today (it would be a dog) and soon it will probably be the same way with gas engines.

  • @EatmyDust1311 I know. in 2005 I had a 92 F-250 with a 7.3 (non turbo) in it. It was stock when I got it, And I slapped a Big gerret turbo, Stronger head studs, an intercooler, a big exhaust, and an intake on it (I used this truck for towing daily). It was fun to drive, but the issue with it was that (even though it had a big turbo and a bunch of other stuff on it), it didnt have NEARLY as much power as my 05 cummins. I know its an unfair comparison, but it was a 5.9, which the 92 dodge had.

  • @EatmyDust1311 2/2 and I know that when they switched to 24v, and then to the Common Rail system, The truck went from 250hp to 330hp.

  • What turbos are used on this engine vs the ones on the SHO ecoboost? I have seen two different ones, Garrett GT15 and one made by Honeywell.

  • Only reason why ford didn't win the Motor Trend truck of the year is plainly politics. A ford will outlast, outperform, and beat the competition. it is also important to take in consideration that they re put the motor on a dyno, yeah was still pulling the same numbers 150k miles ago. Obviously 20% leak down is not a lot for a compound turbo gas motor. Plus they tortured it more then any normal person could, providing they let it warm up, and change the oil.

  • @RickArter that's what I meant lol, I forgot MT did HD's this year. The RAM was a no show this year. Jus tthe F250, Sierra HD, and Silverado HD. Ford's trucks are hands down THE BEST, everyone knows that. If you want a cheap piece of crap get a GM truck. If you want a real work horse, that's built to last, go with Ford.
