Top clip. Funny to see Steve Howe screaming "Hey Bo Diddley!" (although it does kind of look like he's not sure of the words). Also, could this be the maiden voyage of the mullet?! That chap had a lot to answer for.
My gosh, could you imagine these guys appearing on The Ed Sullivan Show here in the States?! Parents would have gone nuts! And you thought The Stones were a threat! Ha. The Syndicats are BAD ASS!
By looking at the band members hair-dos and clothes, they do not differ much to the hip bands of the 2000s. The only exception might be that guitars are not held upright anymore. The kids today prefer to keep the guitars much lower and legs spread out to look much cooler. But then again, Steve Howe playing upright and 'uncool' sounds a million times better than any hot kid on guitar in the year 2010.
Convincing Bo Diddley interpretation, would've thought though Steve especially would've known how to tremolo it up,that typical guitar(Diddley) effect is what I'm missin' here.
Funny, I loved Yes (especially their early albums) in my teens and, yeah, still do - but since I found out what went before Yes, I became a sixties garage punk fanatic all the way. Never dreamed I would see videos like this. I wonder if Mr Squire's band The Syn also exist on video...?
my brother Jeff co-wrote Crawdaddy Simone and the whole group used to rehearse at our house in Southgate in the 1960's. I remember Kevin well, sorry to hear he's no longer around.
1964 and Mr. Howe's got the pigeon... I mean guitar-head movements down pat :) I wonder what the man himself would feel like now if he watched this and saw his young self barking out the "heys" so earnestly
I immediatley wanted to favorite it but I thought it might piss you off slightly if I kept favoriting stuff you've just put on your channel!! I wasn't aware of this song and I love it!!
I didn't know this existed. Thank you for posting. Mr. Howe was certainly under-utilized. (The fans aren't dancing, much.) This is a great performance. I wonder why the picture is square.
If you like this song, i suggest finding a copy of the 45 or LP by Bobby Comstock & The Counts on the Ascot label. Best version i've ever heard. They were a Beatles wanna be british Invasion band & they do a hard rock with a little bit of psych version of this classic blues Diddley tune.
His name is Kevin Driscoll. I don't know where he is now, as searches for him online have only turned up an American roots/rock player of the same name.
You cant compare this song with anything else, because this is originally from Bo Diddley , the originator, and the stones covered him too.

I really like Steve's guitaring in Bodast too, he has a style that is masterly but backs off... so there is no wanky lead, just clean tight lead mmmm
