Both bands are interesting and more creative than 99% of the other musicians out there. FTP getting a bit of the recognition they deserve doesn't make them mainstream or boring in any way.

1. saying that a band is not as different as another band but is still just as creative doesn't make any sense. Doing something differently is what makes someone creative.

2. 99% of bands and musicians are not very creative or interesting if they are creative and interesting at all so saying someone is more creative than that has little meaning.

3. And more recognition makes a band more popular and, yes indeed, more mainstream. Which doesn't have to be bad. the black keys did it.
