But in-universe, he was asked back in the 60's but he turned them down because he claimed he was a solo-player (this is despite him having tried once to join the fantastic four).

Then he was asked again in the 80s but the Avengers had abandoned their secret identities then and he didn't want to reveal his.

Then he DID join the New Avengers in the 00's. That .. didn't end well.

There are actual multiple Marvel universes... there's a white Nick Fury, a black one (Not that the color really matters, hell, Micheal Clarke Duncan played an incredible Kingpin in an otherwise crappy movie), in one universe Gwen Stacy has been killed by the Green Goblin, in another it's by Carnage, in yet another, she's still alive... there's also the Noir, 1602, 2099 universes, not to mention the alternate futures, one where Peter Parker is a detective, or where the villains have taken over.

@WarriorBoy The problem with that is detail vs animation. Sleek simple animation like this allows for much easier smoother animation thanks to the lack of detail. The detailed more realistic X-Men look has much more difficult to animate for the same reasons. Thats why it looks so stiff when compared to, say, batman beyond.

Personally I prefer smooth animation and thus cooler fight scenes over detailed characters. But thats just imo.

@Captbigbeard: Capt I know exactly what you're saying and it is true. However I think that there's a way they could balance the styles and also make the art direction look less anime.

I love the movement and fluidity, however I think the art direction could be a bit more appreciative towards the original look of the comics. Even if it was more along the lines of the Ultimate Avengers look (which were very fluid) I think it would be fine.

Boy, I'm looking at all these comments from people complaining that this doesn't reference the comics enough (Black Fury, Robot-Jarvis, Downey-impression for IM) and I'm wondering what they expected.

This show is going to be marketed towards this generation of kids who are more familiar with superheros from movies more than comics. What sense would it make for them to base it off material that isn't current and familiar to their main audience?

I love this cartoon, and i'm familiar with the classic originas of the MU... but hey, try to sell Iron Man, Hulk or Spider-Man's real origin to kids that are currently into anime or modern videogames. That's why i love this cartoon and Spectacular Spider-Man taking the best of all incarnations of Marvel Heroes to do new stuff.

Technically it is the original Fury, just the SKin color is the only difference but it bothers me because Marvel are always sticking in things from the Ultimate Marvel Universe that more ppl like myself just dont really wanna see anymore. I have no problem with the Ultimate, Samuel L Jackson, Fury. You see a lot of other leakage from the Ultimate universe and that can be good too. However, the original Nick Fury is a classic that I fear might get over-shadowed if under-used. His portrayal in the Ultimate Alliance II game was brilliant going back to that traditional manly character in the Lee Marvin/John Wayne vein, or as someone wrote "the old cigar chewin warhorse".
