That's the only Joplin rag I can play and I can't play it nearly as fast! It sounds better on a piano that's slightly out of tune - not too much but just so the note "beats"

this link will show u the best tempo for the song in my mind and it sounds clean and nice and the way Joplin intended the song to be played.... especially without a sustain pedal
i agree with you on this. i attempted to play it slow, and it feels more like the maple leaf DRAG than the rag :-P i admit, the trio is a hard part, and i definatly need more practice there, thanks! :-D
HA! Nice one. This is not at all a slow drag or anything. Some people just play this so agonizingly slow! I can't take it! It needs a good kick to sound good at least. --- You're damn right about the trio though (it being hard). I think that's the part of the song where you can really make it stand out though and make it sound HOT. And you can't do that going slooowww...I noticed you tried some improvs in there. Niiice! *thumbs up*

duh.
when you have limited recording times, you do what you can to fit it in.
i do not however think it is absurdly fast. i think it should be upbeat and a bit fast, otherwise it sounds draggy.

I think this is a perfect tempo for the piece. I honestly don't even think its very fast.
There are a couple spots where you could use some practice, but other than that, its well played. Good job.
