  • I tried the EdT, the EdP and the Eau Première. Eau Première doesn't last on me and the EdT gave me a major headache. So I got the EdP which I really love wearing. I hope I get to try the Parfum someday.

  • @NekoChii Your persistence paid off - you did a Goldilocks on it and found the No. 5 that was juuuuust right.

  • I was Astonished how much I like this new and improved rendition of Chanel No 5!, It is absolutely Beautiful! its hard to believe, but it really seems as if it is somehow heightened and dare I say improved, OK I will settle for it has been embellished in all the right ways. Loved the original ,and surprise surprise Loving it even more now with its cute little Face lift! Thanks Katie once again ,I would have ignored this otherwise!

  • @ITcanB Oh goodie!

  • What is the difference of N. 5 eau de parfum spray and N. 5 parfum bottle?

  • @MegaRosy96 Parfum has a higher concentration of perfume oils than edp, so with the parfum, you'll be getting a deeper, softer experience. Also, with Chanel No. 5, the classic renditions are considered the parfum and the edt. The edp is a newer formulation and doesn't have the magic of the others.

  • how about the elixir sensuel?

  • its sooo expensive I want one! someone on fb said she don't like it I can have hers so we'll see if I get it like that.. I want it to use for special occasions esp since it is super expensive lol well at least for me

  • @BRONXPEPE Ooh yeah, hopefully you'll score a bottle from your fb friend.

  • @KatiePuckrikSmells yea she is gonna give it to me I am excited I want it also cause it was Marilyn Monroe's favorite perfume lol but thankfully I love the smell too! =)

  • I wished this perfume smelled good on me

  • It's funny you say it's citrusy, because to me it smells like expensive powerdery hotel soap. Smelled it in a Vogue sample the other day.

  • I ask because my mom found and bought a brand new never open perfume called cotillion by Avon. She loves it I say she smells like snooty old women.

  • Have you ever thought on doing review of the earliest perfumes? Well that, if you can find them.

  • I just purchased this fragrance today after just one sniff...It is something i have been looking for: a soft, velvety fragrance that draws you in, but doesn't suffocate. I have wanted something like this in my collection of heady florals, something lighter, and not at all sweet. Thank you, Katie, for introducing me to this updated version of a classic.

  • @eezepeeze You're welcome!

  • Like Edie Sedgewick without the heroin - classic. I'll remember that for a long time!

  • Very good review, as usual....I've been hesitant to try Eau Premiere because of it's associations to the original in all strengths- the aldehydes in No. 5 hit me n like a soapy/waxy punch in the face. But if they're as toned down in Eau Premiere as you suggested I may have to try it! Thanks!

  • @Brandxisor You'll be pleasantly surprised.

  • Its very soapy and powdery, I cant decide if I hate it or love it, but it'll always be a classic & recognisable scent.

  • Première is pronounced "pruh-myair". It would be "pruh-myai" if is was spelled premier, without the ending "e" and the accent.

  • @ispinintights Thanks for the tutorial!

  • i absolutely HATE chanel no. 5. but you sure do know your scents!

  • "Like Edie Sedgwick before the heroin" LMAO

  • This perfume is a little overrated, I have smell it.

  • MS Puckrik, I have only one thing to say...... I LOVE YOU!

  • @KatiePuckrikSmells you are just fabulous!!! I love all your videos... PLEASE NEVER STOP DOING YOUR REVIEWS! xo, steven.

  • it feels like she is telling a story.

  • Chanel no.5 stinks!!!!! Granny perfume. Literally. I have my grandmas and it smells like old people. It's still a full bottle..I think I should sell it...

  • @x0ticShwty What do you wear, Ed Hardy?

  • @HigherPlanes Lemme guess, you smell like a grandma right now...

  • @x0ticShwty I'm a guy, so no. I just think it's annoying when people say a perfume smells like a grandma. What does that even mean anyway? Chanel No. 5 smells like Chanel No. 5. It's hardly your fault. No matter how retarded it sounds, you're merely repeating something someone else said.

  • @HigherPlanes Ur wrong again, I'm not repeating anyone, it literally smells like my grandma... The only reason why I have a bottle is because of her... Take your anger out on someone else.

  • @x0ticShwty I'm not as angry as I am annoyed by your comment. I'll stand by my claim that you're repeating what someone else said, but don't get worked up. It's just an opinion. But hey, if you truly believe your grandmother smells like Chanel No. 5 why not extract her essence, bottle it up and sell it on the perfume market? You can make millions.

  • @HigherPlanedud see chill out and stop obsessing over my 'retarded' comments lol Oh and I don't wear Ed hardy, I didn't even know they made perfumes, but I guess an asshole like you would know :)

  • @x0ticShwty lol. I don't know whether or not Ed Hardy makes fragrances. Their clothing line is just as retarded as your statement so I figured if anybody wears Ed Hardy it's you.

  • @HigherPlanes Lol so you decide to reply with my statement with another retarded comment. Dude u have issues take a chill pill... :)

  • @x0ticShwty I'm just keeping it real while you're keeping it really half-ass :)

  • @HigherPlanes No, u just did the same thing I did LOL.

  • @x0ticShwty ARRRGGGHHHHHH. I'll spray CHANEL No. 5 in your face!

  • @HigherPlanes I dare u

  • @x0ticShwty Done. You got some CHANEL No. 5 coming in your future bitch!

  • @x0ticShwty I RESPECT YOUR OPINIONS AND I KNOW IT'S JUST A PERFUME, BUT TO ME (20) AND MILLIONS OF PEOPLE OUT THERE CHANEL No 5 IS LIKE GOD... A PART OF ME

PLEASE DON'T INSULT.... YOU SHOULD SELL IT! LET SOMEONE ENJOY THE BEAUTY OF IT WHICH YOU CLEARLY DON'T SEE =)

  • @dumbasaboxofhair Yay and I can enjoy the money.

  • @x0ticShwty OH BOY! see that... win win!

  • @dumbasaboxofhair Happy happy joy joy.

  • Chanel no.5 is an overrated perfume IMHO!

  • I dont care Chanel No.5. But I love that necklace you wearing and you look stunning.

  • @tube26love Gosh, thanks! You've just reminded me that I need to wear that necklace more.

  • you're a babe, Katie.

  • but which one last the longest without respraying throghout the work day?

  • have you tired Uninhibited by cher. i think cher's is better than channel.

  • haha I'm wearing a top with edie sedwick on it watching this :)

  • @meohmy217 Perfect.

  • Great review! Also, I absolutely love that necklace you're wearing =}

  • @stellatocca Thank you!

  • @stellatocca Thank you! It's a vintage 1900s coral necklace that was a present from my husband.

  • i am getting my mom this for mother day i such how did what you said and got my mom this not the angel buy thierry mugler because she did not like it at all it was so strong

  • I took a whiff of the bottle yesterday in Macy's and thought it reeked but I may get brave and try it on, I know bottle smell and skin smell are typically 2 very different things.....

  • @charlottesmom It was the Eau Premiere version you tried, or the original No. 5?

  • I am a man and I bought the EdT today in the classy travel spray version. I love this scent for it makes me happy and sexy and lush and sophisticated all at the same time. It's the Carrie Bradshaw of perfumes!

  • @originaldeftom Perfection!

  • @KatiePuckrikSmells Apparently there is a whole book dedicated to the success story of "# 5" and I have learnt that the "Extraite Premiere Parfum" is made exclusively from Jasmine harvested in Grasse. I love the micro website of No.5

  • yuck! i absolutely HATE this scent! it smells like old women!

  • @dimitra490 Yeah, an old woman with class :P

  • I just don't care how old it is, I just wanna know how it smells -_-

  • @HannahRoser I discuss the smell in the review. To recap, it's a lemony-orange start with softer aldehydes than the original No. 5. The abstract florals (jasmine, ylang-ylang, iris and rose) deepen into soapy butteryness on the skin. Hope this helps.

  • @chang248 I haven't smelled it for a few years, but I remember liking it. I'd have to smell it again to have something more useful to say!

  • One more thing - a question - what are your thoughts on Drakkar Noir? It's one of my favorite fragrances out of most of the available men's colognes, and it wears well on my skin. I'm not one for those sweeter colognes, like JOOP, which after a while smells like rotting bubblegum on me.

  • @PandoraKyss Joop is sweet as all get out, isn't it? But I've never smelled Drakkar Noir, so I can't weigh in there...

  • @KatiePuckrikSmells I can't take Joop, or it's brother Nightflight. If Joop is the high school drop out, then Nightflight is the arrogant college kid. Too sweet. My ex-boyfriend wore them both. Horrors. I'd rather wear a Yankee Candle 'round my neck. But if you like earthy oakmossy types, you may like Drakkar. Very unique without screaming "OMG LOOK AT ME I HAVE HANDS," if you know what I mean.

  • @PandoraKyss Funny!

  • @PandoraKyss JOOP! Homme is my absolute favourite winter go out clubbing scent! I feel like a sexy curvaceous candy pickled cherry. It is gay/ camp at first but develops into a butch leather hog, lol

  • As of late, I've been trying to formulate my own fragrances using essential oils, and I've been reading and watching a lot of different videos about perfumes. Out of all of them, I trust your opinions and enjoy your reviews the most. There is a definite top note of a dark intelligence edged out with a sharp wit, drying down to a truthful frankness and an ability to convey one of the most underrated of our senses - that of smell. Great work; keep smelling and telling!

  • @PandoraKyss You clever clogs, you! Thanks for the great review of my reviews!

  • @KatiePuckrikSmells whats up with your eyebrow? just wondering

  • @TheGoofball77 What's up with my eyebrow is that it's a scar from a childhood accident.

  • KatiePuckrikSmells what is the diff. between chanel NO.5 Eau de Parfum and the chanel No 5 eau premiere which one well my mom like help asap

  • @valine0 Well, as I explain in this video, the newer Eau Premiere version of No. 5 is sheerer and lighter than the original No. 5 formulation. If your mom doesn't like strong smells, she'd be happier with Eau Premiere.

  • what perfume be good for my mom she is 61yr old I thinking chanel No .5 or dior for the 12/25/10 what kind of perfume you think I sould get her she does not want a storg smell

  • @valine0 The one in this review, the Eau Premiere version of Chanel No. 5, would be good. Another soft and pretty and sophisticated one is Prada L'Eau Ambree. I love that one!

  • no 5 smells like grandmas

  • I appreciate the classic # 5..and prefer it to this, but I do agree the perfume was better than the edp

  • I don´t like the classic No. 5 (its´s to intensive I think) - but the the new variation is brilliant!

Anyway I just love my coco madmoiselle most =)

    greetings from germany

  • @MrsLittleChaos Glad you checked in!

  • i just LOVE chane no 5. the eau premiere kind. its so light and powdery, but still manages to fit in those fruity, flowery notes. it last so long. i could where this everywhere and not get bored with it

  • @AGFashionAcademy The mark of a great perfume!

  • From watching many of your reviews, I am getting the distinct impression that you are not at all fond of aldehydes. Until about a year ago, I was very turned off by them. Now, I love the sparkle and brightness that aldehydes can bring to a fragrance! D&G, (red cap), Eau Premiere and a personal favorite, Sicily by D&G. I wonder if you would consider reviewing Sicily. Sadly, it was discontinued and I cannot find it anywhere. :-(

  • @iamcasihart Well, I do always remark on aldehydes if they're part of the perfume's composition, because if they're there, they're distinctive. But not "distinktive", because I do enjoy them! I've got Eau Première in my own collection, and also Nasomatto China White, another aldehydic number I love. But I suppose I make a bit of a whoop about them because not everyone appreciates their vintage-style fizziness.

I haven't seen Sicily around, either, and don't have a sample to review.

  • Previously I've tried the Eau de Parfum and Eau de Toilette but somehow the dry down is a little sour on my skin but Eau Premiere is just beautiful! It is lighter, fresher and yes still has the classic No 5 smell but the dry down on my skin is lightly sweet and I will definitely get it. Coco Mademoiselle is another favourite of mine from Chanel, perhaps you can review on it some day? Loved your witty reviews :)

  • @red2046 Good to hear you had success with Eau Premiere. Glad you're digging my reviews. Coco Mlle is definitely on my "to do" list.

  • Hi Katie! Im a 17-yr-old girl and im going to a graduation dinner soon. My dress is in 60's style with simple cutting. Im looking for something classic and cute to put on. Is Chanel No.5 suitable for me or do you have any other suggestions? Thx a lot(:

  • @wing42 I love the idea of you matching your perfume to the era of your dress! I'd recommend Chanel No. 5 Eau Premiere, since it contemporizes Chanel No. 5 ( very popular with young women in the 60s) so beautifully. You might also try Dior Diorissimo, the classic lily-of-the-valley, or its modern counterpart, Guerlain Idyll. Also check out Dior Diorella and Chanel Cristalle and No. 19, all from the 70s, but still classic and so pretty.

  • I talked to a SA at the Chanel counter in the department store about Chanel No. 5. I told her how much I loved it as teenager and, ahem, 20's-something but didnt like how they changed it so stopped wearing it. She assured me, most haughtily, that it is the same formula as it always has been and that obviously my skin has changed and that is why it no longer smells good on me. I didn't SAY it didn't smell good - just that I didn't like how it smelled! Those twisty SAs!

  • The SA is just plain wrong about Chanel No. 5 not changing. Over the years, changing regulations on perfume ingredients mean that the No. 5 formula's been adjusted to tweak the musk and oakmoss content. And who knows what else has changed, because perfume companies generally keep reformulations hush-hush.

  • @KatiePuckrikSmells Thanks! I didn't think my skin changed and in any case, I think it is more my sense of smell. Does skin change? Regardless, it smells more soapy now which isn't a bad thing - it is just not the No. 5 I grew up smelling on my Mom before I started spritzing it on me. One of my first boyfriends liked it so much on me that he gave it to me as a birthday gift, I am interested in smelling Premiere to see if it reminds more of my teenage spritizing of No. 5

  • Preferences certainly change, but I don't really know what skin gets up to. I suppose we lose our "new car smell" as we get older, and our skin does get dryer, so that will effect how a fragrance wears.

  • Is Eau Premiere for men?

  • @cantavoidtrite It's marketed to women, but because it's a dialed-down version of No. 5, lighter and fresher, I know of guys who love wearing it.

  • hahahahahaha you're really funny, and very knowledgeable. Thanks for your input

  • @saddlerackcowgirl So glad you're digging my smelly scene!

  • Well I don't think so. I'm 15 and here,everybody from 12 to 50 love this scent.

Guess it change from people to people.

    Perhaps, good video

  • That's really cool to hear, melodelicious. Where do you live?

  • I'm living in Montréal

  • You all obviously have more sophisticated sniffers up there!

  • Yeah probably haha

  • @melodelicious12 hmm i'm 16. i was just wondering is it ok for teens or is it too mature. or kinda mid 20s type of purfume. or maybe everyone :) it'd be great if you could tell me <3

  • @kcindrl0kjjdfgpoin5 yeah it's okay for teen =) It's not too mature, it's just okay. Try it and tell me what you tought about it! :)

  • Actually I have to agree with the last poster - sorry but I came here looking for someone who loves perfume. It seems that you're more interested in becoming a youtube star than you are in the actual perfumes. I'm going back to NST and Basenotes ...

  • Kalleesto, you're in good hands with Robin at NST and Grant at Basenotes. If you're still scouting around for new voices, also check out Nathan Branch, Perfume Posse and the lively crowd over at Perfume of Life.

    Happy sniffing!

  • @Kalleesto Oh, and I might be barking up the wrong tree with this, but I invite you to check out my blog, KatiePuckrikSmells dot c o m. Plenty of perfume love going on there!

  • Thank you for the tips and the gracious acceptance of my abrupt comment.

    Appreciated.

  • You are welcome indeed.

  • Most of your jokes just fall flat and are not at all funny--not even a chuckle or smile. They are just distracting from your informative reviews. They are particularly distracting because you cut away after every lame joke.

  • i've smelled chanel n5 and it didn't appeal to me. I got the roll-on version of viva la juicy and i LOVE it! I'm 13 so maybe my nose isn't mature enough for chanel? I did smell chanel chance in a magazine and i loved it though... any thoughts?

  • You got it, mileyfan - younger noses will start to crave different kinds of stimulation as they mature.

It's similar to how our food tastes develop - when you're young, strong, or spicy, or exotic flavors just seem yukky. And by the time you're an adult, it's "Coffee? Wine? Stinky cheese? Bring it on!!"

Chanel Chance is an oriental formulated for a younger crowd, meaning that the spices and patchouli and florals are really sweetened up to fit in with the current sweet perfume trend.

  • I really don't understand the hype behind Chanel No. 5. It smells so grandmotherly and strong! It's like Opium. Maybe my mind will change as I get a little bit older though since I'm still only 18.

  • Yeah, Chanel No. 5 really references another era, before the magic of perfumes that smell like cotton candy and berries.

I would say that No. 5 is definitely a woman's perfume, and you should revisit it in another 10 years...or at least the Eau Premiere version.

And just think, the grandmothers who wear it now used to wear it as hot 20-somethings. It's funny to think that someday, Juicy Couture will be a "grandmotherly" scent!

  • My mom got it for her 50th birthday but guess what? I'm the one using it and LOVING IT! I can't stop smelling myself and I'm 22. I"ve heard that the the No.22 is much better do you but it's hard to find here, do you think i should bother? I'm looking for a signature scent.

  • Ha! Good to hear! Eau Première is a delight, and it was designed to bring the joys of Chanel No. 5 to a younger generation.

I wouldn't say No. 22 is better than Eau Première - just different. No. 22 is a very aldehydic, abstract floral, and you really have to enjoy those sharp aldehydes to get into it. I think you're good with Eau Première.

  • Bought this after watching your preview let me say it is heavenly! You don't need to douse yourself with it..treat with caution in specific areas of your body..it IS strong and subtle at the same time and it makes me feel ultra feminine and personally speaking much nicer than the original, hey that's just my opinion. Those under 25 yrs old would probably do better with something else like viva la juicy (nothing wrong with it ..just "too sweetly youthful for me)Definitely NOT for the teens, lol

  • Well put. For mature noses only. Chanel No. 5 really doesn't compute until you've been around the block a few times...so to speak!

  • yeah lyk her bad breath in the morning

  • Harsh!

  • it smells like grandma and my adviser's mouth!!!! sorry

  • Your advisor's mouth?? Wow!

  • Hey Katie! :)

I was wondering if you could do a review of Miss Dior Cherie and also of Fancy by Jessias Simpson?

    Thanks!! :DDD

  • I've been getting a lot of requests for Miss Dior Cherie, so I plan to do that soon.

  • Ok awesome thanks!!

Have you tried Fancy by Jessica Simpson?

Cause I'd love to hear your thoughts on it :)

  • It's been a while since I tried Fancy - would have to try it again to comment.

  • Mmkay :)

Well then I'll just shut up and be happy your doing Miss Dior cherie!!

    lol :D

  • lol

  • Revisited Fancy yesterday - woo - I forgot how fruity that one is, cuz I always think of it as a straight vanilla. But it's really fruity-tooty, along with the vanilla. Comptoir Sud Pacifique Vanille Abricot hits that fruity-vanilla vibe too. Kenzo Amour Indian Holi is a more "grown-up" fruity vanilla, just for reference.

  • But you liked it over all?

    And yea lol

    It is really fruity!!

But I LOVE how it smells on my skin

& I'm thinking about trying Comptoir Sud Pacifique Vanille Abricot cuz of your review! Plus it's Katy Perry's favorite so that's a bonus!!!! :DD

  • I'm interested to hear how you think Fancy and Vanille Abricot compare in a perfume dance-off.

  • hahaha well I'll DEF. keep you posted ;)

Also I was thinking about trying out DKNY-be delicious n the green kind

Just to have a more fresh option if I want it

  • Be Delicious is certainly more fresh'n'crispy than the other sweeties you mentioned.

  • lol I tried it today and it just smelled like flowers on my skin!!

    BLEH!!

    I can't STAND flower smells!

Plus my Mom is very sensitve to flowery perfumes!

I think I'll just try Vanille Abricot instead ;)

  • No flowers for you, then! Got it.

  • haha sorry I guess I just went on and on ;D

  • lol

  • I love mademoiselle by chanel.

what do you think about it?

And can you please do a review on

    Betsey Johnson? thank you!

  • I like the general vibe of Chanel Mademoiselle, the spicy, butch oriental, but its popularity means it's a little played out at the moment. I always think that Mademoiselle fans should check out Chanel Égoïste (the original, the Platinum version), because though it's marketed to men, its spicy rose and creamy sandalwood smells gorgeous on women, too, and is in the same genre as Mademoiselle.

  • please do DIOR? I'm so in love with Dior Addict and Dior Addict 2. I have those and Miss Dior Cherie, but I'm not sold on Poison... I think it smells a lot like poison and less like sexy chic... I'd have to buy any other ones online where I wouldn't be able to smell them.

  • I've got those on my "to do" list!

  • I totally get the "fizzy sparkle" you speak of! I've been wearing Eau Premiere for a few days now and I personally think it has a soda pop fizz-type sparkle, kind of like the carbonation I smell from ginger ale. Does that make sense? I'm bad at describing scents :op

  • Complete makes sense. I agree with you.

  • I'm french, and I would like to let you all know that when Katie says eau de parfum she says it wrong. It's pronounced eau de parf"ugh" not eau de parfumm

  • Thanks for the tip, sweetlily!

  • I think Katie is doing a pretty good job of pronouncing it. It's pronounced exactly like "parfum" but with a nasal vowel at the end (indicated by the m which is not intended to be pronounced). It's a difficult sound for many Americans to pronounce, and I don't think "ugh" approximates the sound when pronounced in either French or English.

Keep up the good work, Katie. :D

  • Aww...appreciate your slap on the back, jwpianoboe! I hope that viewers gather that while I'm not a native French speaker, I try my best with the pronunciation.

The irony is, Americans love hearing their language spoken with French accents, or English, or Italian, or Persian, or whatever the case may be. It sounds "exotic". But sadly, it doesn't work the other way around ;-)

  • What is the difference between Eau De Toilette and Eau Premiere?

  • "Eau de Toilette" refers to the concentration of perfume oil in a fragrance - typically 4-10% perfume oil for an EdT. "Eau Première" is Chanel's (meaningless, as far as I can tell!) name for this lighter version of No. 5. It's just the title, and not a perfume term.

  • ohhh, I've heard you say Eau De Parfum (spelling?) a few times also....is that different too? I'm new to perfumes....

  • Here's the breakdown of perfume concentration terminology:

Eau de cologne (2 5% perfume oil)

Eau de toilette (4 10% perfume oil)

Eau de parfum (8 15% perfume oil)

    Parfum (15 25% perfume oil)

  • you remind me of someone from desperate housewives =) your videos are great.

  • the eau du parfum was waaaaay too heavy and old laadyish i love the eau du premire and i also love chanel no°21 and 19

  • I love No. 19, too!

  • oooh I would love to have a young version of my mom's perfume! I love No. 5 but it reminds me too much of sneaking into my mom's make up.

  • Eau Premiere is definitely a more accessible version of No. 5.

  • I know what you mean, but my remix ... sneaking into my grandmother's fragrances (she spent 14 years of her life in Paris, FR).

  • Well, if she said Chanel No. 5, she's probably wearing the classic EDT.

Indult Tihota is a beautiful, pure vanilla. It's sweet without being sickly, and is very smooth, without the burnt aspect of Aquolina Pink Surgar or Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanilla (which is a great treatment of vanilla, too!) I wish it weren't so crazy-pricey. Vanilla-wise, I'm also a fan of Vanille Sauvage de Madegascar by Maison Vanille.

  • It sort of looks like your foundation is a mask which doesn't blend nicely into your jaw-line... Not hate intended, just an observation :)

  • Just took another look at this one, and I see what you mean. But don't actually wear foundation all over my face. My face does get more sun than my body, and I think either the lighting or the processing of this vid exaggerated the color differential. Thanks for input.

  • Please could you review Black Star by Avril Lavigne ? I've recently bought it but I don't know whether or not I should take it back because other people think it's

too 'watermelon infused' but I'd be more confident with a better review, i.e you :)

  • I'd like to check out Black Star, but at the mo', it's only sold at Kohl's, and there isn't one in my area. Soooo...I'm not able to give you my opinion. But you are the ultimate expert in how you want to smell, and if wearing Black Star makes you feel like a delightful creature, then you should keep it.

  • your soooo pretty jeeeeeeeealuuus

  • Ive been debating about getting this and u sold me :) thanks katie

  • Yay!

  • can you please do a review on dolce and gabbana light blue its my fave
