  • Everyone needs to get over the Racist thing, Everything in the '50's was Racist and things are still Racist today, in 50 years we'll be saying Racist to many things we don't think about today.

  • Cowabonga is-

    A.An Ooragnak indian expression

    B.A surfing term

C.A Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles battlecry

If you answered A,you saw Howdy Doody when you were a kid

If you answered B,you saw beach movies when you were a kid

If you answered C,you're still a kid

  • That's the Chief himself [Bill LeCornec] performing Edward Kean's unforgettable song; Kean, who just passed away a few days ago (shortly after Mitch Miller himself), wrote virtually all of the "Howdy Doody" scripts and songs from 1948 through '55.

  • Haha, so damn racist.

  • Looks like a old christmas card from jim reeves.

  • Wow, how racist.

  • cowabunga, dude

  • How old is that record!?!?!?!?!?! The sleeve is all torn and tattered! I can't believe that record still works!!!

  • wtf was that shit

  • They're probably STILL at the drive-in! (see my comment immediately below)

  • Hey, BC, last I heard Summerfallwinterspring was dating Photo Doody. Guess they never came back from the drive-in that night.

  • Mitch Miller was, and as far as I know still is, a very fine oboeist. I'm sure it's him predominating in the background. I remember as a kid how afraid I was of old Chief Thunderthud. With that raspy voice, I thought he always mad at everyone :)

  • C O W A B O N G A !!!!!

  • Gumby used to appear on this show, too.

  • My namesake! I've never actually seen a pic of the guy, they seem to have cut him out of all the photos.

Anyone heard from Summerfallwinterspring? She never writes.

  • Wow...did that jolt back memories. Was just trying to explain 1950s tv to the little kids on the street. They had never heard of Howdy Doody. Or a test pattern, which we used to sit and watch, hoping it would change. ;-) That had an Indian picture on it too, if I recall.

  • Cowabonga!! Great stuff - thanks for posting this song!

  • I think this clip could win me an Oscar for best short subject. Best soundtrack is in the bag...

  • Interesting. You can hear how elaborate the music for even the simplest of lyrics was years ago. Love the orchestra. Is that an old 45?

  • It's a 78 RPM...

  • a 78...!!? Geez, I thought I was the only one on the Mayflower who brought over 78s!!! Who'd a thunk it?
