  • This young man was a picture of power especially since most men have no prayer of lifting HALF as much and he actually looked good for more.

  • I get the feeling that he may have done double body weight in training. That would only be 9.5 kilos (21 pounds) more. Most lifters, average to great, have done their best in training because they have more chances (attempts) to do so. Think of it---closing in on a 500 pound snatch by a 241 pound man. That's still 92.59% of 500 pounds---in a snatch. 215 seemed possible had the weight been loaded to it.

  • @skirts365 people who are non-supers , usually train at higher bodyweights which negates that double bodyweight snatch @110kg business, but as he did do 200kg in 1983 at 99.? bwt and as a junior, he doesnt need to double claim to fame this, might as well say weller would have done 215-220kg if the berlin wall had stayed up! as he did 205kg at under 110kg (and a junior) for east germany

  • @ozwunder69 Second time lately you get really slashing attitude with comments, Berlin Wall has nothing to do with anyone's snatch ratio. Next time before commenting anywhere I may review first to see if you're around, and just stay away, I regard you as looking for outlet for hostility.

  • I think all the bodybuilders who watch this would have dropped their jaws on the floor

  • That looked so easy... how?!?

  • Olympics need to bring back steroids in powerlifting...it was much more exciting

  • I love how low-key the Soviets were. Zakharevich sets a WR but he's celebrating as if he just scored a good parking spot at Costco.

  • That is so far off the charts its disgusting. Go put 460lbs on the bar on the floor. Feel it. Snatching that weighting is incomprehensible.

Its literally not possible. I am in awe.

  • @tscharf75 His spinal erector muscles were obviously some of the strongest in history, and his nervous system a marvel of efficiency. There is still no genetically engineered strongman. However, nature created one in Tom Topham. His glandular output was such that when he spoke, he didn't sound human. On autopsy, his tendons and ligaments were found to be several times thicker than normal. The great super strongman of 18th century England could have outlifted Zach EASILY, IMO. Google TT.

  • Chuck Norris can't do that, but I'm not saying Chuck Norris can't kick the shit out of that guy.

  • @pmilleroly27 I liked Walker Texas Ranger except scenes where he had to strike people 6 times before they fell! My view--on their best day, Zak could have done anything with Chuck---anything at all. He would not have stood still to be hit. That snatch took agility so Zak was not a clumsy strongman. Since there's no way to make that contest happen, all are welcome to their beliefs because argument settling proof can't be had. Nothing Chuck ever did can amaze like this historic lift.

  • @pmilleroly27 The chuck norris thing is getting old.

Do you think chuck norris could take a crap so big that even HE couldn't squeeze it out?

    Quite a conundrum, huh?

  • @InsertName125 Chuck was born in Oklahoma---actual name = CARLOS RAY

  • @skirts365 um? ok...

  • I want to see what any of our vaunted, over-trumpeted pro football players can snatch. Especially those weighing only 241 pounds. Better yet, the egomaniac Jerry Jones, what can he snatch? If I can get my left elbow working better (cartilage loss) I'd be happy as sunshine to DL that great snatch weight. Had it been loaded to 215 the lift would have succeeded, like they said, he hadn't hit his limit!

  • freak

  • un champion fabuleux 210 kg a l'arracher facile en plus en superlourd il aurais depasser 220 kg

  • I cannot comprehend how a person is able to snatch that weight. Most people would struggle deadlifting that once, nevermind getting above their heads! absolutely incredible feat of strength.

  • @estanuk

Most people could not even get that off the ground 1 inch !!!

  • Shows poundage possibility difference between range of lifts. Millions could probably leg press 210kg, way under 1 in 500 million can snatch it.

  • Leg press is for pussies....

  • It was only an example. There's an undue amount of crass name calling in lifting posts. A leg press can be made heavy enough to make anyone fail and at that point the weight makes the ridiculing person the loser. Although I like Zacharevich better than Ronnie Coleman, RC's strength is nothing to belittle, and he does leg presses AND front squats. Whatever gets results is not "for pussies." Sometimes low back issues stop squatting but leg press can be done and some work is better than none.

  • 210kg Snatch?? People? do you know how fuking strong is that? i dont think most people understand the kind of strenght this guy have.

  • I once did it with one arm and held the bar with my middle finger only...

  • Weak.. I bench 85kg, I'm strong- hang on MY GOD this bloke would snap my back in a heartbeat......

  • does anybody know what YZ does nowadays? Looks like etc?

  • i will snatch that weight easily ......but on the Moon ;) :D

  • Chuck Norris could not do it. Even Mark Henry only did what 185. Everyone knew YZ could have done 215. Damn.

  • Chuck Norris can do it period!

  • Chuck Norris doesn't have to, he just stares at the judges until they give him 3 white lights :)

  • @jmalcomb7 Norris inches under the bar, then pushes the Earth lower.

  • @jmalcomb7 Norris film "Hero & the Terror" vilified real life character Simon Moon, who had conflict with USA psychiatry. SM years earlier had letter published in Playboy Forum critical of psych!! Film shows Chuck doing upright rows with weight his traps might only have been able to use for "shrugs." Chuck vs Zak would have been interesting. Enough skill to beat that strength? Yes, if Zak stood still and did nothing. Can Chuck beat Father Time? If he finds out about TA-65, maybe.

  • @jmalcomb7 I hope you guys realise the Chuck Norris meme is not because he's a badass, but because he tries hard to be.

  • @MajorLeeScrewed well, its both. I d say 90% of male population couldnt kick Chuck Norris ass.

  • wow!! some of these soviet Lifters are actully pretty Dam Good

  • You bodybuilding douchebags need to STFU and go perform your kegel exercises or go shopping for some marvelously ostentatious handbags that will perfectly accentuate those sleek leopard-skin pill-box hats you bought with your wealthy homosexual boyfriends' credit cards.

  • totally agree, only idiots think muscular definition = strength

  • now THATS a put down

  • Hahaha i agree with you on that one my friend there a bunch of idiots walking around with 90% slow twitch Muscle Fibers they no nothin of fast twitch

  • I guess that you are 9 stone weat through and only dream of having the strength of this guy !

  • What's going on guys? Are the bodybuilding faggots upset because guys who actually lift weights as opposed to prancing around in the latest (Richard) Simmons wear in front of wraparound mirrors aren't impressed by their hi rep sets of tricep kickbacks with 5 lb vinyl dumbbells?

  • USSR POWER !!!

  • yeah screw us and a

  • Absolute beast

  • 210kg Snatch... ooh err..

  • OMFG he doesn't even look like he's got any muscle on him. WTF?

  • He has trained his central nervous system along with great technique to perform such a lift. The amount of muscle you have surprisingly has little to do with one's strength.

  • His comment referred to his overall appearance. And I assure you, his arms are plenty strong. Just to hold that much weight above your head requires ridiculous shoulder and arm strength. You need a strong back overall, not only a lower back. Try OH squatting and you will notice much of your upper back is being used. And the reason why he can lift so much weight in comparison to other who are much larger in muscle is due to his central nervous system training (through OLY lifting).

  • The nervous system can vary the strength of muscular contraction by varying the number of MU's recruited. An MU is a motor neuron. They send messages to the muscle to contract. The amount of MUs fired determines ones strength. Olympic training utilizes more MUs and thus more muscle. While someone else may have more muscle, they have an under trained CNS to fire the muscles they have as efficiently as one of these guys. It explains why you have scronny 52kg men throwing 300 lbs above their head.

  • LoL.. ofcourse you can train it.. that's exactly what they are doing! They are training to contract harder, not beat up their biceps to exhaustion like a bodybuilder.. and like that guys muscles, the thing that controls them, is not strong only because of the "genetics".

It is also the reason why my right hand is stronger than the left.

PS. You're the only moron here cos you are calling people morons.. even when you don't know about the subject.

  • you're right i dont know anything about the subject, just had 6 neurology/neuropsychology classes in my life.

  • Then you must have slept during the classes.

  • and your credentials, idiot?

  • Oh name calling ..well, hey dork.. I can't see yours anywhere either.. people can talk and brag about what they like in the internet.

I just happen to be interested and act upon it.

  • nice way to deflect the question, ever thought about politics?

  • LoL nice way to change subject, dude! you didn't read the whole comment.. the answer is right there, so...

  • your just not getting it lol, this guy could train just for getting those muscles the size and shape they are but with out training the muscles to contract properly with the CNS, he could still be strong but not as strong and certainly not as fast

  • do you actually know anything? youve yet to say anything correct?

  • by the way, he trains it with the lifts he is going to compete at.. there isn't anything mysterious and exotic training concepts behind it, if you thought so. Do you even know what is cns? aah.. doesn't matter.

  • you sir are a fuckin moron. if you have never heard of the central nervous system, you arent going to go far with weightlifting. they arent bodybuilders who do fuckin curls and crunches till failiure, or guys that look like the hulk but cant lift 400lbs. do some fuckin research dipshit. everything that you have said is just complete horseshit. you clearly have never done a snatch in your life

  • I see lots of muscle on him... he weights around 110kg

  • Evgeny Chigishev is the closest thing to Yuir in terms of speed and power.

  • unbelievably deep squat out of that snatch, simply amazing, and great speed. props

  • That won't be duplicated for a while, for somebody at his weight. He's like the hulkster in the snatch.

  • Nor will his snatch WR of 200kg when competing as a teenager in the then 100kg class.

Amazing when considering that some 20 years later the snatch WR in the senior 105kg class has 'only' progressed to 199kg!

  • Best snatch ever. He does about the wweight of the likes of rezazadeh and Taraneko despite weighing 40-50 Kilogramm less. That's strong!

  • Taranenko was far lighter than Reza.

  • 210kg arase? jesus crist and holy mother mary this guy is a mobile drug store.or he was living close to chernobyl

  • wtf

  • My God, that's insane. His legs are like pillars. Crazy!

  • oha. der reißt da 210kg O_O

  • AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Even with steroid its unbelievable. AMAZING!!!!!!

  • I dunno if he was on the roids. He doesn't have the anabolized look some modern day olympic weightlifters have. Maybe he was, but on a lower dose as nowadays.

Also take into account that Russians and Bulgarians would use alternative restorative techniques such as massaging, naps and so on.

  • Yes, drugs are a possbiltiy but he just doent have the look. When you train as much as these guys and have the BEST massage, food sleep and recovery you can train as often as the average gear user.

  • a gear user who has the best massage, food, sleep nad recovery cound even get better results ;) so that doesnt says a thing

  • yes but just look at him. These kinda weights with a juicer would make him look like a condom stuff with walnuts.

  • I have no idea how he balanced that looked like it was coming forward a bit. Amazing strength to get it balanced and back up.

  • Amazing how fast he is and how low down he goes! And awfully strong! A legend.

  • the best in 110kg class.

  • tool

  • "This man has charismatic abilty to encourage gravity to take a vacation"

    Best line ever!

  • really thats the only way to describe how this is possible

  • Haha, definitely

  • @jmalcomb7 I wonder how long he was saving that.

  • BASICALLY AMAZING!!!!!!

  • AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • TIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • basically amazing...

  • this is crazy, he doesn't even look that strong!

  • super

  • Remeber he was a 242lb. Class, no SHW like Rezazadeh or Kratsev! Impressive!

  • most superheavyweights dont even snatch this much are even close.

  • damn russians and their long socks.

  • Damn that dude looks like a fucking tank. He's not all veiny or ripped but he just looks like if you were playing touch football with him he'd just knock you on your ass and he wouldn't even be sweating.

  • My good!! such snatch!!

Dios mio!! que tal levantada!! Que tal potencia!! Y le sobra!!

  • HOOOOOLLLYYYY CRAAAP!!!

  • that went up like nothing hes good for a fuck load more.

  • HOLY CRAP!!! i can only do 59kg!!!

  • Where was this video downloaded from?

  • He had it dislocated before and lifted with a reconstructed elbwow.

  • Without a doubt one of the greatest lifters of all times.Had he dislocated his elbow yet at the time of this comp?

  • Only Olympic wqeigthlifters can r e a l l y appreciate the immense magnitude of this phenomenal feat. Best snatch ever. Krastev did 216 but weighed 50 % more in terms of bodyweight.

  • also hosin rezadadeh snatched 213 in 2004, im not sure though, but this guy dominates because of his body weight no doubt.

  • NICE!!!HE IS ALSO VERY HANDSOMW!!!!

  • "this man has charismatic ability to encourage gravity to take a vacation" Man, that's gotta go down in history as THE best piece of weightlifting commentary. Motivating stuff.

  • I know, what a line huh? They need to find this guy to commentate for all weightlifting events.

  • Truly remarkable performance, I remember watching this live and was staggered at how easy he made it look. Great post, many thanks for the memories.

  • no doubt its peer material for naims 190 CJ

  • I can't agree more, Zak looked good for 215, maybe even 220.

  • Yeah really. How much did the guy in the super heavyweight snatch?

  • Rezazadeh took Superheavyweight gold in Athens 2004 with a 210kg snatch at 166kg bodyweight. Yuri was 109kg when he completed this lift. To this day no Olympic Heavyweight Gold Medallist has snatched more than 197.5kg.

  • Yes. I meant what did Kurlovich snatch in the superheavyweight division in Seoul? It couldn't have been the same amount Yuri lifted. That's a strong snatcher there.

  • Kurlovich snatched a magnificent 212.5 kg at 135kg bodyweight in Seoul.

  • Wow, just a 2.5kg difference between Yuri and Kurlovich in the snatch. I think Naim in the featherweight division had more on the snatch than the guy who won the lightweight division.

  • more like maybe good for 212

  • I respectively disagree, did you see how high he pulled this 210 and how easily he stood up. I think 215 and even 220 were in the wheelhouse. I've heard rumors that he hit 220 in training. Nonetheless, an absolute badass.

  • that was one of the greatest lifts i have ever seen!!
