@blenditandMendit I have only tried it once before using a recipe I found on someone's blog, but it was kind of slimy in texture and I didn't really like it much. However, I found a recipe in the recipe book that came with my Vitamix and am curious to know if it is better. It calls for 2 cups water, 1/2 cup cooked brown rice, and 1/2-1 tbsp brown sugar or sweetener of choice. It says to add all ingredients to vitamix, blend on high for 2-3 min. Store in fridge and shake well before use.
I make this for my toddler and he loves it. I also make quinoa milk. Soak over night like with the oats, then cook, blend, and strain. Sometimes I'll also cook flax seeds in a little water and strain those, to add a little fat.
Jane this looks fantastic can't wait to try! What do you think about just blending up the soaked oats, and adding the rest of the ingredients, instead of the extra step of making the milk first? I always soak my oats for the morning, already, then add a bit of organic whole milk and cinnamon and flax with berries...was thinking of adding a banana to what I normally eat "in a bowl" and blending it up! What do you think? I always eat all alkaline first, though...usually my oats are a mid morning
I think you'll get a texture change, but since you eat soaked oats, I don't see why it wouldn't work. Try it and come back and let us all know and then we can all save a step, too!
I make oat milk all the time and what I like about it is that it's inexpensive, and easy to make. You may want to try experimenting with the end product. I often add vanilla extract to mine. Malt extract powder, carob powder, or cacao powder are all good as well. Malt extract powder will give it a malty taste, which many folks like. Oh, and another good thing about this milk is that you don't need a power blender to make it. Any blender will work.
Thank you for your great info - for many people who can't do nut milks, these are great suggestions for enhancing oat milk. I especially like the vanilla and cacao :)
I didn't even know oat milk existed so I had to click this one lol. I don't have a juicer or a juice bag (I'm not sure what it's called) but when I get around to getting one, I'd definitely like to try this, it seems great. Thanks!
I recently tried making some oat milk in my high-speed blender. I took 1 cup thick old fashioned steel cut oats and put it in a quart jar, filled the remaining space with water and added 2 pitted dates and 1/2 teaspoon of Chai Masala (bought in a small can from the Indian grocery store). Blended it in the morning and poured it through a sieve. It made such a creamy milk that I skipped the banana in my morning green smoothie. I saved the fiber for my flax crackers.
It was one of the most enjoyable smoothies I've ever had -it's as though the oat milk was totally neutral - the consistency is a little stickier than a nut milk, but it worked great in the smoothie
I love your energy. Keep it rocking!

Let me know what you think, it's more elastic than a nut milk, but very mild.

i cant get raw oats, and regualr oats make me feel a bit strange.
any other ideas for raw 'grain' mylk?
thx

@starflower666
Jan, who sent in the oat milk idea, also suggests kamut, brown rice and spelt that can be used as grains to make "moo-less mylk."
