  • I just had a dream and I was in the dessert and the sun was setting....wow

  • This song is shared with my sister, Darya, in Persia, whom I love. We both love this song and the lyrics speak to us on many levels.

  • I'm sorry guys but the only version of this worth listening to is by Paul Young. Every other version is way over the top!

  • e struggente nella sua bellezza ......... lori

  • How could you not like this song!?

  • The Film's name in the original is "Out of Rosenheim", but since the Gringos wouldn't understand that, it was renamed "Bagdad Café".

I remember traveling through Spain a year after the movie came out, and someone blasted the song out of the window when we parked up at the monastery Montserrat.

Just had to hear it again. Thanks for the upload.

  • This song was used in AT&T commercial in the early 90's, feel in love with it then.

  • Watched Bagdad Cafe and was charmed by the beauty and simplicity of it and it's characters but hearing this song... listening to this voice, just took my breath away. Jevetta's voice is so soul piercing. Loved loved loved it. Both movie and song will not be forgotten...

  • It's painful to know that 18 people dislike this song. This song has helped me through some bad times and it's one of the most comforting songs I know.

  • No disrespect ment toward other talented artists who re-did this piece, this voice reached me in the deepest way, no one else comes close it's amazing, really amazing.

This has the same effect as "always and forever" had on me.

  • I remember it seemed to pop up here and there, then once the movie was scrolling it's final listings, this song finally was played in full, the folks who were heading out stopped and turned around and listened to the complete piece, some even went back to their seats and listened.

Beautiful Song, a very Beautiful song indeed ..

  • This song really moved me when I heard it when Bagdad Cafe' came out back in 87, always wanted to find this, didn't look to be honest until today, figured it anywhere I can find it it'll be on YouTube, sure enough I found it, got it and am very glad to have found it in it's entirety,

    TG for YouTube ..

  • the way she sings this song...AMAZING!.....

  • Hauntingly beautiful.....

  • According to my "husband".. this is not BLUES..... Well if this is not blues, I don't know what the fuck is frankly.

  • @starquant well maybe this will help, Jevette Steel comes from a gospel background, in a way of speaking its like she's singing a hymn, but still it's considered lite blues ...

  • check out the version of "miss dominique" she's was on a french version of american idole, she was amazing!

  • Piękna piosenka, mogę słuchać i słuchać:)

  • All the times i hear this song I remain without words.......beautiful.

  • I remember hearing a portion of this song in quite a few AT&T commercials. It hypnotized me into wondering what the song was and who sang it. But when I got a newsletter from my local jazz music radio station, I learned the song's title and artist. I was so glad to find that information out.

  • This song and voice blew me away. Exceptional. No wonder Celine Dion eventually recorded it.

  • ke romantica sta canzone!! trop bela!

  • Man man man .... You can really hear and FEEL the pain. That voice rocks something deep inside you !

  • When I first heard this song in theaters, I tried in vain to find the CD for the song. Listen to every radio station to hear this song and that voice....and years later, had to resort to taping it on a VHS tape, just so I could blare it as loud as I can and listen to a song that has haunted me for almost a decade. I LOVE THIS VERSION so damn much, you have no idea. Thank you for posting it.

  • That is such a funky little film. Quirky City. Hard to forget this evocative song too.

  • I don't love this song. But I love the fact that you love this song.

  • I've heard a lot of versions of this and Jevetta will always be the best

  • This song is a good start on my weekend ;)

  • "Whoah, wrong note there..."

  • I am so frustrated and worried looking for a job. I am listening to this song with a whole NEW meaning. PLEASE, Oh Lord, I am calling you. Send me a well paying job, not now, but RIGHT NOW ! Thank you. Amen.

  • Hi I am also a little frustrated looking for a job. Living for almost 5 years in a country that it is not mine, strugling each day not to feel inferior than anyone else. I did not know this song was about calling for God, untill I have read your comment, thanks for posting. God bless you and He will protect us and guide our ways in order to find our jobs. Sorry to bother! Best regards! Nin

  • Oh my goodness, you made me burst out crying when I read your post. Here I am feeling bad for having to live at home with my mother, and you are not at HOME at all. You did not bother me, You made me know that we will have victory. We are not inferior, just going through a storm. And I thank you!

  • Thank you for putting this song up. I saw the movie Bagdad Cafe once when I was young and this song gave me the chills back then- the same as now. The movie was pretty good too.

  • Lmao @ Sentien07, U doin too much

  • I swear, I got chills the first time I played this. How have I never heard this woman's voice before?

  • i cant believe that this is actually made by a human person...

  • This song means a lot to me. A great time I had.

  • I love her voice...didn't know she sang over the rainbow, and this little light of mine in my favorite movie, CORINA CORINA...oh wow...what a blessing

  • Thank you for the comment..it truly transcends me and I am Grateful to know she sang the other songs~!

    Happy New Year~! Donny

  • The purity of Jevetta's take and the perfect arrangement and harmonica! Lay back, and you may be transported. Definite.

  • A law should be passed the Jevetta should be the only one who can sing this song. Fabian--come'on, you kidding? Even Celine can't sing this song. This is Jevetta's and that's it!

  • One of the greatest voice I've ever heard. The film is special, but a great film. I recomend it to everybody. Spain.

  • finalmente ho trovato questa canzoneeeeeeeeeeeeeee :D

  • From "Bagdag Café"

  • who sings this?

  • That song is sung by Jewetta Steel in the film Bagdad Café. One of the greatest voice I've ever heard.

  • que temazoooo me trae muchos recuerdos de cuando estuve en el badgad cafe en el desierto de mohave

y en especial la pelicula de igual nombre

  • So close, and yet so far away...

  • Hypnotic song...

  • Incredibely beautiful song, that cut deep into my soul. For me it was a calling from YAHWEH to come back to My Creator and Praise Him.

  • I finally drove down the Mojave desert to Route 66 and visited THE cafe. Andree, the owner was lovely. I sat at THE table and ordered a coffee. The place is great and the motel was haunting. The juke box (CD player plays Calling You as you eat. And check out Jack Palance's Airstream when you get there.

It's certainly a road to nowhere but much better than where I'd been.

It's a great place, so real.

  • this song makes me feel so deeply sad and pensive the song is awesome but the movie is suck!!!

  • the movie is one of the best ever made......secret is.....u have to sit down n watch it n not jump on ur phone or toilet every 5 mins....))

  • sumtimes u need to watch this vid more than one time....there are so many underlying themes in here....see the point of the movie is none of these peeps are whole until they find each other.....then one part fits with another....its like no matter how much u may feel alone at times there are others out there just like YOU.....searchin and we dont even know it till we find each other.....and when we do.....ITS MAGIC!

  • i don't even manage to listen this song..it's too beautiful..no words

  • This song makes you remember that person you only thought you forgot.

  • Petrus,

    This is nice point

  • so true.

  • this song is impossibly haunting.

  • Like someone said below... this song has always floored me... they do still sell the Bagdad Cafe cds, but you might have to buy it as an import... Impossibly beautiful song!

  • Sorry, but this version is from the film Bagdad Café (1987) and Buckley's version is in his first album (1993).

  • @wellythecat Esta canción es maravillosa. Me gusta mucho también la versión de Celine Dion.

  • @wellythecat

the song is actually from the german movie called OUT OF ROSENHEIM.... a few years later it became an US tv series called bagdad cafe

  • @wellythecat

the song is actually from the german movie called OUT OF ROSENHEIM.... a few years later it became an US tv series called bagdad cafe

  • @MIASHIVA1 "Bagdad Cafe" was actually the name of the movie, too: they renamed it, somewhere along the line, and that's how most of us know it.

  • it's just a copy of Buckley's version ;|

  • jesus this is bloody amazing! can somebody please tell me who sings it?

  • Jevetta Steele.

  • thank you :)

  • @egan2210 celine dionne

  • @egan2210 Jesus has NOTHING to do with it. Its Javetta Steele, but religion HATES women, so what the heck does it matter to the likes of you?. She should be at home, raising brats, earning no money, and preying to GOD while her husband fucks around or beats the crap out of her... I HATE religion and FUCK HEADS LIKER YOU.

  • The first time I saw Bagdad cafe and this song came out of nowhere, I was floored. Every time I hear it, I get tears in my eyes - it's impossibly beautiful.

  • You describe my reaction, perfectly... "floored and teary-eyed"

  • Magnifique ! Sublime...................

  • this was the music for an AT&T commercial. The movie was a great indie flick if you like a story.you'll never forget it.

  • AT&T used it in a series of spots from the late summer/early fall of 1992. One of the spots was two girls chasing each other around in a back yard (the same yard used a year later in a Campbell's commercial).

  • the film u r looking 4 is Baghdad Cafe, its a great film.!!!!! this song i love sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!

  • This song is so haunting! Wish I could find the movie. I liked it. It had a German actress in it and she acted in "Sugar Baby", too. Great movie. Can't find it, either.

  • Ms. Jevetta Steele sang this beautiful haunting song. She is a member of a Minneapolis area family gospel-singing group -The Steeles. Her sister, Jearlyn Steele, is a regular on the Prairie Home Companion radio show. Both, Jevetta and Jearlyn, appeared on the November 22, 2008 PHC show. Listen to the archives. Jearlyn Steele appeared on the November 8, 2008 PHC and sang a great -Let It Be Medley. Just google Prairie Home Companion and look for the archives.
