  • what does CB stand for?

  • @Harlequin317 Captive Born

  • Do you have a special license to hold the Gilas? If so is it one where you have to get a college degree in herpetology?

  • @Harlequin317 You have to prove they're CB

  • How many days did you watch the gilas? By the way I am a huge fan of Gilas and would like to see one or be able to be authorized to hold one.

  • @Harlequin317 A week...

  • yea there cool to have around and fun to have but i bet it hurts when it bites

  • thats sooo fuckin sick

  • *post another stupid question here*

  • there are so many animals like this in INDONESIA, in Indonesian, we usually called it "TOKEK" tok kotok kotok.... tokeek.......

  • Do you guys have a Cobra?

  • gilas are the only known poison lisards...

  • @cuzaseso Venomous lizard, not poisonous

  • @viperkeeper oh right, my bad

  • @viperkeeper but its a bit wierd that there only one known lizard in the world that we know is venomus, i bet there are other venomus lizards we yet havent discovered.

  • @cuzaseso Just a few years ago Bryan Fry discovered that all of the Varanids are venomous.

  • @viperkeeper yeah i just watched a documentary about lizards the other day and it turned out that the komodo dragon also is venomus!

  • @cuzaseso srry to respond so late but the the mexican beaded lizard is the other known truly venomous

  • @cuzaseso there is also the Mexican beaded lizard, which is a close relative of the Gila monster, and as VK said, all monitor lizards are also known to be venomous

  • @cuzaseso no the beaded lizard is also venomous

  • @cuzaseso no they arent

  • @cuzaseso an easy way of learning the difference between poisonous and venomous is this,,poison is ingested, which means eaten..venom is injected, which means it has to be put into the blood stream to cause harm.

  • cute

  • what if u got bite or w.e?

  • Gilas are truly beautiful!!!!

  • hey Al,

do you still own the gilas? If so can you post an update?

    Regards,

    ALex

  • @ImperialGeckos No, I was keeping them for a friend for about 5 days then sent them home.

  • @viperkeeper Al do you know Mr. Angeli?

  • I caught a Gila monster at 5:00 oclock near Dynamite road headed down towards the Verde river. I kept this 21" animal for a year. It became perfectly tame, and docile. I never saw one at night. But other friends of mine saw them in mornings and afternoons. They are crepuscular and nobody knows more than Arizona Fish & Game. This was in the early 80s & things were not near as built up as now. :)

  • @BoyCary Fish & game has no clue. You just admitted to collecting a protected species, a violation of the law. While I was collecting with U of A project under permit, we always caught them well after dark.

  • Gila monters are crepuscular and do not come out at night. They are active in early morning and late afternoon. Never at night. :) Read the Arizona fish and game iformation.

  • @BoyCary Somebody forgot to tell the Gila's that....

  • y is the title called leaping lizards

  • @Reptiles54 Because I can call it anything I want

  • @viperkeeper ya i know i was just wondering

  • @Reptiles54 I just told you the truth....just thought Leaping lizards sounded cool..

  • ITS POISON ANIMALS:::

  • wow, seems pretty tame

  • i hear there ticklish?

  • lol, its claws are like witch hands hehe

    great vid!

  • omfg when it jumped around 30 seconds i jumped!

  • if they are endagered species how are people able to have them as pets ?

  • Captive born animals

  • Usually to keep the species alive people work out what they need for a healthy life, and breed them as pets in coptivity. It's the same with the Hedgehog and Red Squirrel nowerdays.

  • they are not considered "pets." these are virtually always captive specimens, whose existence has no effect on wild populations.

  • A beaded pocket book! LOL!!!

  • you still have these?

  • No, I just picked them up for a friend.

  • do they need uv at all

  • I'm not a Gila expert but if they need any it's only a little, since they are nocturnal.

  • as far as i know, no. i have spoken with two very reputable keepers and breeders of heloderma and their answer is no. i do not keep mine under any special light. remember, the vast majority of their life is spent underground. how often do they even see the sun in the wild?

  • HE DOESN'T WANT ANY OF YOUR FRICKEN WATER..... but i want mr. sniffles

  • IT TASTES LIKE MOMBA.

    thats what she said.

  • wow. you really have had everything at one time or another. whenever i ask you "have you ever had....." you always point me to a video of it. You really do have an amazing collection.

  • man that is a cool lizard :O

  • I've always wanted one of these, and I think Im up to the challenge and risk now. Where can I find one of these, and how much will it run me?

  • Sometimes they show up at reptile shows their cost is ~$1500 USD

  • u guyz buy those for pets

  • Better than chasing a black & white ball around a field.

  • no i just mean like i hav 10 lizards at home its just that a gila moster is just rank how much r they

  • Sometimes they show up at reptile shows their cost is ~$1500 USD

  • What do these guys eat? Can you get them on rodents?

  • Yes, bird, quail chicks are a natural prey as well as rodents. They love eggs too.

  • i heard to advoid eggs for gila monsters

  • That's one of their favorite foods. It makes their feces really really stink that's why people say to avoid it.

  • Al, this was a wonderful surprise and change of pace from the snake videos. Never seen a Gila and always was curious about them. Excellent video!

  • wow! What if next time they get a Komodo Drogon Lizards

  • Ken ( A guy my dad works with) has a son who is going into the navy. And he has what Ken think is a Gila Monster and Ken was wondering if I would watch it for a few years while he is in the navy. How hard are these guy to take care of? What is there backing temps ect?

  • Actually the fish and game dept will fine you BIG dollars for just touching them. Great specimans.

Thanks for bringing them on your show :)

  • I have always loved these! I live in AZ and have caught a few. Amazing little creatures.

  • Watch what you say on the internet, these guys are a protected species and law enforcement take a dim view of people cathing these.

  • Hahah yeah i understand. I always release them!

  • very cool are venomous reptiles usually somewhat docile?

  • Some are easy going and don't bite unless you scare them.

  • viper were can i get a gilla monster like you =]

  • Ask Santa to bring you one ;-)

  • Do these bite?

  • Does the sun rise in the East?

  • Dont be all sarcastic...I just asked a question and where do u buy one of these?

  • 1) My site, I can do as I wish

    2) I don't take well to stupid questions like "Do these bite and where can I get one".

    3) Watch the Viperkeeper Rant...before you write me again.

  • haha arguements over youtube

  • He's not being sarcastic. The sun does rise in the east, so the lizards do bite. Get it?

  • My bad, I meant to reply to pokemongangsta011. :(

  • Yeah...I fugured that out..no worries.

  • Do they have antivenom for Gila Monsters?

  • No...because they are not considered lethal.

  • fun untel they bite your hand off lol.............good vid :)

  • so beautiful I've allway's wanted one... but they like to roam, so it would be hard to get a tank big enough to be happy. looks like it could easily be hand friendly with the right attention

  • Very cute pair of heloderma suspectum, remindes me of my blue tongue skink! I almost caught one in california. what other animals do you keep?

What size cage would one of these need? 40 gallons?

  • I have no idea, since I never put anything in an aquarium other than fish. A vision 221 is about right.

  • this guy seems more mellow than my leopard gecko not that im trying to compare the two or anything

  • You just did....lol

  • i'd like to get a gila monster. only place i know to get one though is glade herps, and they're 1500 big ones.

  • oh, that'd be cool to kepp a gila. I wish I could in NY legally.

  • do you keep any gilas ?

  • Not normally

  • I'm glad you video'd the Gila, as I am a big Gila fan!

You gotta get a beaded lizard for your next video.

  • do gilas have ears

  • Yes

  • I saw on mith buster that with glass in front of you that covers your whole body you can cheat a heat detection alarm does that mean they the heat sensing snakes cant sence heat through the glass and can only use vision?

  • Possible, depends on the frequency of the IR the snake is sensitive too and which wavelengths are blocked by the glass..

  • ome dude u have one for a pet? Those are extremely venemous

  • They are not very venomous.

  • How venomous are they? do you have any sites or names of books that i could easily get my hands on to get some more information on gilas?

  • yes, but email me directly

  • This guy is a total nerd--but cool at the same time. I get a kick out of the "alien abduction" parallels.

  • Captive born Gilas are available from time to time on Kingsnake dot com

  • kingsnake dot com is a great site. Very informative. There are a lot of experienced keepers and breeders and they can answer about any question you may have.

  • Yeah...more bone heads than experts. Don't believe all you are told.

  • Hi, I am a major reptile enthusiast/hunter and such. I live in Ohio and wish I could get my hands on one. I have an Am Gator, 2 Ball pythons and 2 Redtail Boas and a Western Hognose. Let me know if I can get one somehow. Thanks,DC

  • Wow those are accually quite mellow for Gila Monsters.

  • cute basterds

  • Heloderma suspectum suspectum, but what you said is close enough ;)

  • hilarious dude!

  • Great video! Where you saying something about Mamba's? If you have them on film I would love to see it!

  • I had some D. jamisoni that I obtained for a Zoo. I have some video but it's not very good. With those guys you have to concentrate on them and not how it looks in the camera or you be dead!

  • wow do u sometimes keep lizards? they remind me of a newt

  • Those are so cute. :) Gorgeous colors. Great info:)
