i got so busted up in a crash a few year back that ill never ride again...but this song make me miss it so much every time I hear it...and this is a great version.. thanks
Bravo! My hats off to you guys. If this version was available I would buy it. God blessed Richard Thompson with great song writing skills and Bean Creek has produced the best bluegrass version thus far. Congrats.
I was @ Sam's BBQ when "Bean Creek"- Billy and Crew recorded this. This is one of the purist forms of music we have left. No stomp boxes-Lexicon effects or synths.....the music and wood are all you need.
This was a great bluegrass arrangement of this tune. I especially like the dynamics on the mando break. And then... you break it down real basic like for the last verse. Mighty fine and a great big howdy! Mighty fine!
Great job guys ..... cant say its better than Del and the boys but its just as good, I like to see songs done diffrent and these guys did a great job on this one all the way around
@plonker00765 Boy, do I disagree .. I find this a mediocre version. And I hear missing instrumentation nuance. Fine for a local band playing at the BBQ, but not anywhere near the polish of Del McCoury's bunch. And ... so this is what Northern Calif. has for "Best Male Vocalist" ... probably a nice guy, but a not such a good singer. Sorry, but you you opened this door when you started with the comment about this being "more enjoyable" . maybe to you, but not to everyone.
This was the fourth take of this song. It was recorded after playing 3 sets of bluegrass music at Sam's and we may seem a little laid back, but that's California Bluegrass, real traditional, and a little bit country.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, this version has far more balls, excitement, and downright musicality than Del McCoury's version. Bloody excellent.
This is all class ! The lead singer has the gift of a genuine old-sytle SINGING voice, and the band plays tight together, with great mutual understanding and timing. These guys should be on record. Someone .. anyone .. get 'em in the studio & lay down a CD ! Please !
Really fine. Can't listen to Billy's vocal timbre without thinking of Ray Park (as in Vern and Ray)and then you add another couple of quarts of soul and this is what we get. Love Rob's flowing banjo all the way through and Pete's tasty mando break. Please post more Bean Creek!
check out the Jim Henry/Tracy Grammer rendition of this phenomenal RT song here on U tube, its well worth a listen. The guitar work is possibly not as intricate as RT but Jim Henry does a good job.
I posted a comment on the del mccoury clip, wish i had seen this one first. Much better - this guy looks like an acadian bukowski, and his voice has the authenticity, soul and dark passion that mccoury lacks. i would love to see this band perform and will be watching for them, great job! i am about the biggest richard thompson fan as well, by the way, but love to see his work interpreted in different styles also --- maybe these guys should try out a leonard cohen tune for size, some time.
This version is far better than Del McScurvy but Richard Thompson is still the One and only and The 52 Vincent Black Lightning is still the Legend.. and was the fastest MC in the world for a few years..
Bean Creek would like to say thanks so much to all of you who sent us these nice comments. Please leave more! We appreciate your watching!! Maybe we'll meet in peson someday!-Bean Creek
this is a much better version of this song than that gormless looking Del McCoury Bands, more gutsy, this guy has a much better voice, much more musical and exciting
For all of you wanting a good version you can get on itunes, look up Alan Rhody, 1952 Vincent Black Lightning. You WILL like it!
