Such were Rafi s invincible capabilities as a singer that his contemporaries accepted that he was a musical genius. They adored, admired and respected him for his supreme artistic caliber, original creativity and unparalleled musical skills. His voice was the most exquisitely pleasant voice with a divine grace and splendor. He continues to reign with the adoration of millions of music lovers and is a supreme inspiration to innumerable new playback singers.
Mohammed Rafi was the true embodiment of the Golden Era of music and melodies of Hindi Cinema and he epitomized its finest artistic grandeur, splendor and original creativity that was at its very unique zenith. Mohammed Rafi had such fascinatingly wide musical range, supreme artistic caliber, versatility and mastery over music and melodies. Such was his voice clarity, pleasantness of pitch and exquisite tone that he was unsurpassable and unparalleled.
Mohammed Rafi was the greatest ever playback singer of India. Mohammed Rafi was the creator and architect of the Golden Era of music and melodies in India. He was uniquely and singularly responsible for the very existence of the finest artistic grandeur, splendor and original creativity that embodied the Golden Era of music and melodies of Hindi Cinema. Mohammed Rafi still reigns as the most favorite singer of all times with music lovers in India and other parts of the world.
In support of Rafi’s greatness, many of his fans say Rafi sang for Kishore Kumar in films that Kishore himself acted. They also draw the attention to Rafi’s song Darde Dil in Karz which was based on a single note and proved that he was indeed blessed with God-gifted melody. Mohammed Rafi’s fans also claim that Sonu Nigam and Udit Narayan who belong to the Rafi school are technically better than Kumar Sanu, Babul Supriyo etc.
Rafi was the most favoured singer for many veteran composers while Kishore Kumar was preferred by few and was a playback mainly for Dev Anand and later for Rajesh Khanna. Rafi on the other hand balanced his melodious voice for diverse stars like Dilip Kumar, Dev Anand, Guru Dutt, Rajendra Kumar and Shammi Kapoor
Rafi was a singing meteor of his time. Just a dozen songs from films like Baiju Bawra, Kohinoor and Guide assures him immortality. And yet, with virtually every composer and singer worshipping him, especially between 1950 and 1970, he got an undue number of songs to sing and unwittingly hurt the careers of contemporaries like Manna Dey, Kishore Kumar, Talat Mahmood, and to a lesser degree, Hemant Kumar.
Hard work is required to become great. However, everybody those who do hard work need not become great. That is a blessing of God. I believe that many greats are born again to complete what they did in their first life. That is why many great people do not have a long life and they have died young. Mohammed Rafi did not have a long life. Sri Krishna, Sankaracharyar and many others had a short span only.
Mohammed Rafi’s greatness lies in the way he approached the 26,000 songs he sang during his life. For the way he put his heart and soul into each song he sang. It is not the number, which counted but for the tremendous range and quality with which he sang all these songs. That is why he is immortal and great. Greatness is a combination of both. It is inborn and at the same time inherited too.
It wasn't just love, Rafi s voice could capture the navras of life - a failed poet's melancholy, a fiery unionist's vim, a debt-ridden farmer's despair, really anybody at all. Rafi, whose career spanned nearly four decades, was a singer for every season and every reason."
An article in Times of India, published on 24 July 2010 sums up his voice as, "If there are 101 ways of saying "I love you" in a song, Mohammed Rafi knew them all. The awkwardness of puppy love, the friskiness of teen romance, the philosophy of unrequited love and the anguish of heartbreak - he could explore every crevice of ardour.
@TheArifmaneri unjust statement really when u consder the fact that in a predominantly Hindu nation, the top ranking male film stars r muslims. Muslims r free 2 worship & celebrate their religion in India; Hindus would not be given the same recognition if it were a muslim nation. Also, Rafi has always given credit as 1 of the best singer of all times. Stop trying to instigate tension & hate with ur bigotry; instead try 2 enjoy the songs created by brilliant minds-Hindus/Muslims/Sikhs, etc. :-)
can anyone show me even one upcoming singer who has mohammad rafi as his idol?? not even one. all are fans of kishore kumar and consider him as his idol.
if mohammad rafi was really better than kishore kumar, or even near to kishore kumar, then why everyone listens to kishore's songs today. kishore kumar's songs are 100 times more popular than mohammad rafi's songs.
well, Kishore kumar was a born singer. kishore kumar and mohammad rafi sang same era, but kishore kumar is for younger generatin and mohammad rafi for dadajis
Did I miss songs Kishore sang for Dilip Kumar, Guru Dutt, Bharat Bhusan, Pradeep Kumar, Johny Walker, Rajendra, Joy Mukherjee or Shammi Kapoor etc...:) Its difficult to even imagine. Even for other actors like Jitendera and Dharmendra, Kishore was not able to sing for them before the 70s. The same cannot be said of Rafi though even when Kishore reached his peak. Rafi continued to sing for every leading actor of 70s. We can all make subjective comments about voice quality but cannot deny facts.
If anything Kishore fans should be proud that he is even being compared to Rafi. You all know in the bottom of your heart who is better. Both singers were roughly of the same era. How come then we don't recall Kishore's songs for so many leading actors of 50s and 60s, that's 20 long years...except for a few songs for Dev Anand and Shashi. It's the other way round for Rafi: it would be quite a challenge for anyone to find actors that Rafi did NOT sing for...any comparison here makes sense?
Hindu or Muslim...Kishore or Rafi...Respect the legends, respect the souls who given us this chance to listen their wonderful voice...Music dont see any religion same way as Blood Donations dont see who donated the blood and who is going to need that Blood....understand the humanity, be human first...
goodindian1 let me tell you one thing - what rafi has sung, there is no need to introduce - he has sung so many hit songs that no body can match him - his voice was so sureely that every singer at that time adored him.
Pretty sad that when I keyed this in the search engine, I had to trawl through all the new rubbish of today to get to this song, This song is about friendship, true friendship which once upon a time used to exist.
Rafi has made a mistake to sing this song with Kishore, Kishore has beaten him in all respect, sur, expression, charm and las but not the least, manly voice... Rafi knows only one style of singing and whatever song he sings he sings in the same style, be it for a hero, or for a beggar..!!!!thats why Rafi was literally vanished after Kishore made an entry to the indian music, afterall monotonous style can not last long...
@GoodIndian1 - - Your obviously a bigger fan of Kishore, that's fine - but to say what you said about Rafi Saab is a total joke !!!! What drugs were you taking when you wrote this? Kishore is no doubt a great singer but in no class near to Rafi !!!! Even Kishore da himself admitted he is in no league to Rafi at the time of Rafi Saab's passing. He had a poster of Rafi in his house! Kishore would sing Rafi's songs on stage! Rafi's range could never be outclassed by anyone which is a known fact !
@GoodIndian1 - Further to say Rafi literally vanished is again 100% false!! Yes KIshore took top spot in the early 70's due to RD Burman & Rajesh Khanna's backing but Rafi was still there!! From mid 70's until 1980 Rafi was back on the top spot (very well known fact !!) Sorry to say your knowledge in this area is very poor indeed !!! I would urge you to do some un-baised research !!. It was widely known Rafi was the most versatile male singer ever with his immense vocal range & modulation !!
very well said, some ppl are blinded by their own hate!! another reason Rafi saab dint sing asmuch in the 70s was because he went on the muslim pilgramige of hajj, and thats wen kishore got his chance, he also used to offer his services free of charge so music directors would give him a chance!
why the hell are you lying just because you like kishore??
fine if you like him, then go ahead but dnt spew your bullshit here
kishore was a singer at the same time as Rafi sahab but he never was offered any songs by any music directors because they were too busy queing outside the legend Rafi sahabs door. Rafi sahab reigned over the music scene for 4 decades, kk only got a small chance wen Rafi sahab left to go to hajj!!
but wen the music directors got fed up of kishore and his boring monotone voice yodelling all the time, they begged Rafi sahab to come back, and then came the hit upon hit upon hit, for eg hum kissi se kum nahi, laila majnu, suhaag, amar akbar anthony, asha and so so many more. kishhore respected Rafi sahab and accepted that Rafi sahb was the best and that he, kishore was jus average at best. Rafi sab sang classical raags, qawalis, romantic songs, ghazals with ease and beauty...

can you imagine wht a disaster it wouldv been if kishore tried to sing 'o duniya ke rakhwale' or the amazing qawalis 'yeh ishq ishq hai' and 'pardah hai pardah', it wud be disgusting, becos kishore couldnt sing, he just used to shout n dance about like a lunatic, the only way he got music was because the extremist hindus like you, wnted a hindu, and were jealous of Rafi sahab but most indians love Rafi sab and voted him as singer of the millenium, so mr not so good indian shut up!!
Great Song And AWESOME VOICE OF KISHORE AND RAFI I LOVE THIS SONG AND BOTH THESE ACTOR'S SHATRU AND AMITABH these are true legends and this song is sing with a true voice of heart.wat a great song
sale karan johar , john aur abhishek ne iss shabh ko aur iske matlab ko bhi apne tarah kharab kar diya saleeeeeeeeee do kaudi ke director aur actorsssssssssss
listen to the note taken by mohd rafi at 0:27 and it only clarifies that what actually was MOHD. Rafi i just love his versatility and classical base but no disrespect intended for kishore kumar because he is also phenomenal.but in this song i found rafi is overshadowing kk........
Its not true, both Rafi and Kishore were legends and so the great Mukesh along with Lata and Asha, besides Noor Jehan, Suriya, Talat Mehmood, Geet Dutt and above all KL Sehgal. Rafi and Kishroe had a great duo and had given a number of hits together
Rafi voice has expressions, melody sweeteness, surr, while Kishore just has an abnormal voice like a demaged drum, no expressions at all, just singing flat.
He has been fully exposed in this song where he sounds pathetic singer. It was only Amitabh's Bachan karizma that he became famous, while as far as Rafi is concerned actors got famous due to his sweet voice. Shor Kumar can not sing difficult songs, the reason why he was not famous in 50's and 60's .
As u guys might hear kishore voice might be more powerfull than rafis but he sings straight without adding any classical singing.rafi did have more classical training than kishore
Actually Rafi was killed by kishore in 70's. The revival legend kishore kumar was and still no.1 in the planet of musics. Thats the fact, kishore kumar is the most popular Indian singer ever. No one is comparable with him.
@MrRyan587. Very well said my friend. No singer can or will match Kishore's popularity. Music is still made today with his voice in mind as he was decades ahead of his time.

rafi used to take too many takes in 1 song and wud always stick to 1 old singing style, thats the reason salil chaudhary and rd burman called him OK singer. Kishoreda was priceless for them.jst look at the voice quality of KK how smooth and energetic voice he had perfect match for an actor.rafis voice sounds same in every song.beggar style doesnt last long.
@BRITISHALQAIDA if u want to compare Rafi with RD and KK dont forget to add the name Shankar-Jaikishan with rafi. Maybe KK was more important to salil or RD but rafi was pride of bollywood almost every other music director such as Shankar Jaikishan madan mohan kalayanji andanji and op nayar used rafi more often than kishore. In your opinion rafis voice might sound the same but his expressions were surely better than kishore. so IN MY OPINION rafi was a more versitile singer than kishore
@Goldensixties1. I think your eyes have semen in them which is probably why you have come to your conclusion. Please clean your ears out properly and then comment. Thank you.
fantastic song with two colossus singers. we where very lucky that they where both around at the same time. however as wrong as it is to compare mohammed rafi as a singer remains unparalelled. that is not my verdict but the verdict of the majority of people both music listeners and also the music directors & singers of their time, manna dey, nithin mukesh, naushad, Laxmi pyarelal and the list goes on & on as manmohan desai once said agar khuda ki koi avaaz hai to woh mohammed rafi ki avaaz hai x
THIS SONG IS DEDICATED TO MY LONG LOST FRIEND WHO I JUST FOUND AGAIN AFTER YEARS ✮✯✮✯...HOPE U KNOW MY FRIEND IT'S U I'M TALKING ABOUT !!!!! {。^◕‿◕^。}
RAFI PERFECT SINGER AND KISHORE ABSLUTE SINGER KISHORE WAS LOTUS AND RAFI WAS ROSE KISHORE WAS GOLD AND RAFI WAS CHANDNI LOVE THEM BOTH ARE 2 EYES OF THE HINDI FILM INDUSTRIES.......
please do not see every thing in muslim chashma bcpz lata kishore amitabh sachin rajnikant sp balasubhrmanyam p susila s janki asha ji legend piya tu ab to aa jaa legend all are hindus we have proud about rafi saheb but one thing if rafi saheb was honey kishore da was a sweet milk we can not say either honey is sweet or sweet milk but honey + mils it become so sweet

1 lakh kishore kumars can,t beat one mohammad rafi...rafi sahab is undisputed king of all singers of the world...even a child can tell the difference between rafi and kishore,s voice ...rafi sahab is best and noone singer will ever come close to rafi sahab...
janab mohd rafi sahab was selected as singer of last century by lyricists and playback singers. the debate as to who was the best singer, i hope, should end here.
In this song the great kishore da out class monotonous rafi....rafi can be reborn in 50yrs...but legend Kishore da wont even in 1000 yrs.....long live kishore da...u are in our hearts
@pradipmder00 people like you always judge mohd rafi by movies of year 1970 to 1975. In the beginning of 1971 the legendary composer jaikishan ji passed away who made mohd rafi sing some songs that kishore cant even come close to. from 1970 rd burman made kishore play most of his songs as no good competition around they were easily able get to the top. if shankar jaikishan and mohd rafi would still have been working together i am sure you would have liked them more.
dear frnd, rafi was once again got his no. 1 playback seat in 1977. just check wikipedia page of the hum kisi se kum nahi...he recorded more no. of songs in his last days than kk. he was leading singer in all mega budget or multistarrer movies like amar akber anthony, naseeb ,shaan, the burning train, jani dushman etc. even r.d.burman used him very frequently after the success of hkskn
This song is a tribute to singers, we call legends. A truely no-nonsense song that symbolises brotherhood in everysense and brings in us that quality manhood which we seem to be losing everyday to modern anumaliks and reshamiyas of this world. Play it man !
all of u here, rafisaab and kishoreda are 2 reincarnations of male playback singing, one trained and versatile, other natural and flowing, rafisaabs voice was very sweet and melodious, kishoreda, had a base and manly overtones, which no other singer had or has, rafisaab dominated from 1950 -1970, but it was all kishore from 1970 till dada passed away in 1987, and rafisaab just cudnt catch up with kishoreda thereafter, though in that period, he sang equal no of songs and many of them superhits
@milinddabke Not true. It is true there was less demand for Rafi from roughly 1970-1975. However, his superb comeback as the voice of Rishi Kapoor proved he was back in business, and after that, it was a neck to neck race between the two. Kishore was lucky that Rafi saab passed away in 1980
sir, i have very high regards for rafisaab, LP a strong rafi proponent, got rafisaab singing 4 rishi in sargam, amar akbr, was gud, but all said, kishore sang 4 rishi in all the fims where rafisab just had a solitary song and rest all was kishoreda, aapke deewane, karz, badaltey rishte, doosra aadmi, phoolkhile, gulshan, duniya meri jeb mein, anjane mein, sir, rafisaab did make a comebck, but kishoreda was miles ahead by that time, and finaly no 1 was lucky and all unlucky when we lost rafisaab
@milinddabke just not true. You forget movies like Hum kisise kam naheen, Laila Majnu for your own convenience, which both were superhits. You talk about Karz. The song that caused mass-hysteria from the movie was not a kishore song, but dard-e-dil.
sir ur info is partialy incorrct, in hum kisise, othr than qawwli, rafisaab sang 4 tariq kishoreda 4 rishi, sir plz dont 4get that binaca hit and nation wide rage was om shanti om, though personaly i feel dard e dil is the best of the film, sir rafisaab is a legend and versatile, but let us pl accept kishoreda with his base and natural genius surpased the great mohd rafi, and witnes this in their duets whether aapke dewane deedar e yaar, yadon ki barat, muqqadar, kasme wade, badalte rishte etc
@milinddabke You have too look which songs shaped rishis career. Pardah Hai Pardah from AAA. HKKN from HKKN. The superhit soundtrack from Laila Majnu and Sargam. Altough I agree Kishore sang more for Rishi, I do believe that was a collission of factors. As for their duets, it is your interpretation of who surpassed who. It was Rafi who was voted singer of the millennium, not Kishore.
Mohd. Rafi on the other hand, was well trained singer and a very versatile singer. I dunno where some ignorant people got this idea that he was not a versatile singer. If you are talking about an overall singer, then Mohd. Rafi is the best to date! And this has nothing to do with religion. With some research, you will realize this is the fact! You should really listen to Rafi Sahab's songs before you comment! Thank you very much.
Kishore da was not a trained singer. Among other things he tried (like acting), he also tried singing. Although he was already singing for 15 yrs, he got his big break (with Aradhna?) when Mohd. Rafi took sabbatical to go to Hajj. People actually recognized him after this movie. After Rafi Sahab's return, Kishore da was still around, he was now successful as a singer but he was never the best with Rafi Sahab around. Kishore da was mediocre at best, never the best at any of the things he tried!
Guys dont fight... Its a fact that we wont get another rafi... also we wont get another kishore.. So enjoy both of the legends instead of comparision.. they are our twin tower stars which can be seen from anywhere
Both were great in the singing. But Tell me who would have sung high pitch songs like rafi did.Few examples are "O duniya ke rakhwale", "yeh mehlon ye takhton","gham uthane ke liye".Was Kishore kumar capable of singing these songs?
Please don't compare the two great singers - they had quite different styles of singing. Mohammed Rafi had the classical touch, whereas Kishore Kumar was more versatile.
mr. shaan, when a singer sings for an actor it doesnt prove that he is the best singer. i know rafi sang for kishore in a movie, but it is a shame for rafi that an actor surpassed him in the art of singing.
i am muslim and i believe in one god and muhammad as a prophet, but truth is truth. kishore was superior than rafi in songs. we can boast atleast kishore married 4 times, and followed sunnah, but rafi didnt. LOL!!!
to just name, first you say that you raam, shankar, are your gods! and other thing is that rafi died of heart attack soon after he came to know that his songs in movies that he sang for are flopping down as compare to that kishore sang to the movies. this truth rafi couldnt bear and eventually died of heart attack. but kishore till his death there was none to challenge him and every body knows that.
in my entire life i have closely examined kishore's and rafi's songs. however, i am muslim but to be very neutral i always prefered kishore over rafi and he was always been my favourite singer. Kishore really beated rafi. and this is bitter truth. truth must be accepted.
listen, u seen old sholay and the new?ok take take this into consideration certain roles suit certain people, for example amitabh is a superstar but yet could not do any justice to the role of gabbar singh, n amjad khan is not a superstar but yet played an outstanding gabbar in the old sholay, what does dat show?it shows that yes some songs suited kishore better than rafi, and dont forget rafi sahib has even sung for kishore when he used to act..
Pure bullshit. I am a Hindu, but so what? NO ONE ever touched Rafi, and no one ever will. That said, I am also a huge Kishore Kumar fan, his genius was not limited to singing, he was an actor, director, producer, comedian and the biggest ladies man! lol But Rafi is Rafi!
@bandaal1 yeh truth should be accepted but my friend you r not accepting it. The Golden era of Indian Cinema is 50s and 60s in which Rafi was ruling the male playback while Lata was ruling the female playbck. He could sing a song very easily if it was of high pitch or lower. If some one really was in competition that was Talat mehmood not kishore. Kishore was only dominated in 70s and 80 and in 80 rafi was passed away.
Rafi is good in certain songs but when I don't want to fall asleep during a movie, I watch one where Kishore Kumar is the playback singer because he lights up any movie no matter how boring the story line is. Kishore is GOD in music.
Bullshit, dont compare Rafi with ANYONE. Kishore is great but Rafi has no match. All of Mumbai Cinema is still searching for 'The next Rafi'; 30 years after his death.
Lata ji and Mukesh ji are greats... hope they are not muslims. kindly do not drag any religion, we respect all religion in same manner. And yes, KK could be no. 11.
If one is not exposed to various vices found in life then everything looks fine, but those who have seen it can tell the difference straightaway. Poor direction, real freinds even in India do not show affection this way.Poor poor direction and enactment.

TheArifmaneri 3 months ago
It wasn't just love, Rafi s voice could capture the navras of life - a failed poet's melancholy, a fiery unionist's vim, a debt-ridden farmer's despair, really anybody at all. Rafi, whose career spanned nearly four decades, was a singer for every season and every reason."
TheArifmaneri 3 months ago
An article in Times of India, published on 24 July 2010 sums up his voice as, "If there are 101 ways of saying "I love you" in a song, Mohammed Rafi knew them all. The awkwardness of puppy love, the friskiness of teen romance, the philosophy of unrequited love and the anguish of heartbreak - he could explore every crevice of ardour.

Indian film industry is overtly biased against muslim artists at all levels
TheArifmaneri 3 months ago
@TheArifmaneri unjust statement really when u consder the fact that in a predominantly Hindu nation, the top ranking male film stars r muslims. Muslims r free 2 worship & celebrate their religion in India; Hindus would not be given the same recognition if it were a muslim nation. Also, Rafi has always given credit as 1 of the best singer of all times. Stop trying to instigate tension & hate with ur bigotry; instead try 2 enjoy the songs created by brilliant minds-Hindus/Muslims/Sikhs, etc. :-)

mrvinodkumass 3 months ago
if mohammad rafi was really better than kishore kumar, or even near to kishore kumar, then why everyone listens to kishore's songs today. kishore kumar's songs are 100 times more popular than mohammad rafi's songs.

even in this song, see kishore kumar's voice is so young. and mohammad rafi's voice is as he is kishore kumar's dad's age.

mrvinodkumass 3 months ago
well, Kishore kumar was a born singer. kishore kumar and mohammad rafi sang same era, but kishore kumar is for younger generatin and mohammad rafi for dadajis
mrvinodkumass 3 months ago
TheQualitymatters 3 months ago
If anything Kishore fans should be proud that he is even being compared to Rafi. You all know in the bottom of your heart who is better. Both singers were roughly of the same era. How come then we don't recall Kishore's songs for so many leading actors of 50s and 60s, that's 20 long years...except for a few songs for Dev Anand and Shashi. It's the other way round for Rafi: it would be quite a challenge for anyone to find actors that Rafi did NOT sing for...any comparison here makes sense?

Rafi's range could never be outclassed by anyone which is a known fact !
zeetrance 5 months ago
@GoodIndian1 - Further to say Rafi literally vanished is again 100% false!! Yes KIshore took top spot in the early 70's due to RD Burman & Rajesh Khanna's backing but Rafi was still there!! From mid 70's until 1980 Rafi was back on the top spot (very well known fact !!) Sorry to say your knowledge in this area is very poor indeed !!! I would urge you to do some un-baised research !!. It was widely known Rafi was the most versatile male singer ever with his immense vocal range & modulation !!
zeetrance 5 months ago
@zeetrance
very well said, some ppl are blinded by their own hate!! another reason Rafi saab dint sing asmuch in the 70s was because he went on the muslim pilgramige of hajj, and thats wen kishore got his chance, he also used to offer his services free of charge so music directors would give him a chance!

fine if you like him, then go ahead but dnt spew your bullshit here
kishore was a singer at the same time as Rafi sahab but he never was offered any songs by any music directors because they were too busy queing outside the legend Rafi sahabs door. Rafi sahab reigned over the music scene for 4 decades, kk only got a small chance wen Rafi sahab left to go to hajj!!
MRafisahabgems 4 months ago
@GoodIndian1
but wen the music directors got fed up of kishore and his boring monotone voice yodelling all the time, they begged Rafi sahab to come back, and then came the hit upon hit upon hit, for eg hum kissi se kum nahi, laila majnu, suhaag, amar akbar anthony, asha and so so many more. kishhore respected Rafi sahab and accepted that Rafi sahb was the best and that he, kishore was jus average at best. Rafi sab sang classical raags, qawalis, romantic songs, ghazals with ease and beauty...

'SHOR KUMAR'-AS BESURRA AS GHANTASALA.
Shor Kumar can not sing difficult songs, the reason why he was not famous in 50's and 60's .

rafi used to take too many takes in 1 song and wud always stick to 1 old singing style, thats the reason salil chaudhary and rd burman called him OK singer. Kishoreda was priceless for them.jst look at the voice quality of KK how smooth and energetic voice he had perfect match for an actor.rafis voice sounds same in every song.beggar style doesnt last long.
BRITISHALQAIDA 1 year ago
@BRITISHALQAIDA if u want to compare Rafi with RD and KK dont forget to add the name Shankar-Jaikishan with rafi. Maybe KK was more important to salil or RD but rafi was pride of bollywood almost every other music director such as Shankar Jaikishan madan mohan kalayanji andanji and op nayar used rafi more often than kishore. In your opinion rafis voice might sound the same but his expressions were surely better than kishore. so IN MY OPINION rafi was a more versitile singer than kishore

@pradipmder00 people like you always judge mohd rafi by movies of year 1970 to 1975. In the beginning of 1971 the legendary composer jaikishan ji passed away who made mohd rafi sing some songs that kishore cant even come close to. from 1970 rd burman made kishore play most of his songs as no good competition around they were easily able get to the top. if shankar jaikishan and mohd rafi would still have been working together i am sure you would have liked them more.

all of u here, rafisaab and kishoreda are 2 reincarnations of male playback singing, one trained and versatile, other natural and flowing, rafisaabs voice was very sweet and melodious, kishoreda, had a base and manly overtones, which no other singer had or has, rafisaab dominated from 1950 -1970, but it was all kishore from 1970 till dada passed away in 1987, and rafisaab just cudnt catch up with kishoreda thereafter, though in that period, he sang equal no of songs and many of them superhits
milinddabke 2 years ago
@milinddabke Not true. It is true there was less demand for Rafi from roughly 1970-1975. However, his superb comeback as the voice of Rishi Kapoor proved he was back in business, and after that, it was a neck to neck race between the two. Kishore was lucky that Rafi saab passed away in 1980
naumanjanjua12 2 years ago
sir, i have very high regards for rafisaab, LP a strong rafi proponent, got rafisaab singing 4 rishi in sargam, amar akbr, was gud, but all said, kishore sang 4 rishi in all the fims where rafisab just had a solitary song and rest all was kishoreda, aapke deewane, karz, badaltey rishte, doosra aadmi, phoolkhile, gulshan, duniya meri jeb mein, anjane mein, sir, rafisaab did make a comebck, but kishoreda was miles ahead by that time, and finaly no 1 was lucky and all unlucky when we lost rafisaab
milinddabke 2 years ago
@milinddabke just not true. You forget movies like Hum kisise kam naheen, Laila Majnu for your own convenience, which both were superhits. You talk about Karz. The song that caused mass-hysteria from the movie was not a kishore song, but dard-e-dil.
naumanjanjua12 2 years ago
sir ur info is partialy incorrct, in hum kisise, othr than qawwli, rafisaab sang 4 tariq kishoreda 4 rishi, sir plz dont 4get that binaca hit and nation wide rage was om shanti om, though personaly i feel dard e dil is the best of the film, sir rafisaab is a legend and versatile, but let us pl accept kishoreda with his base and natural genius surpased the great mohd rafi, and witnes this in their duets whether aapke dewane deedar e yaar, yadon ki barat, muqqadar, kasme wade, badalte rishte etc
milinddabke 2 years ago

Thank you very much.
sahil908 2 years ago
Kishore da was not a trained singer. Among other things he tried (like acting), he also tried singing. Although he was already singing for 15 yrs, he got his big break (with Aradhna?) when Mohd. Rafi took sabbatical to go to Hajj. People actually recognized him after this movie. After Rafi Sahab's return, Kishore da was still around, he was now successful as a singer but he was never the best with Rafi Sahab around. Kishore da was mediocre at best, never the best at any of the things he tried!

mr. shaan, when a singer sings for an actor it doesnt prove that he is the best singer. i know rafi sang for kishore in a movie, but it is a shame for rafi that an actor surpassed him in the art of singing.
i am muslim and i believe in one god and muhammad as a prophet, but truth is truth. kishore was superior than rafi in songs. we can boast atleast kishore married 4 times, and followed sunnah, but rafi didnt. LOL!!!

@bandaal1 ... It is not about hindu or muslim it is about quality of voice, I also examined indians playback singers. and rank them like this
1)Mohammad Rafi and Talat Mehmood
2) Mukesh
3) Kishore

Rafi is good in certain songs but when I don't want to fall asleep during a movie, I watch one where Kishore Kumar is the playback singer because he lights up any movie no matter how boring the story line is. Kishore is GOD in music.

Bullshit, dont compare Rafi with ANYONE. Kishore is great but Rafi has no match. All of Mumbai Cinema is still searching for 'The next Rafi'; 30 years after his death.

And what about Kishore? Is he at No 11?. Can you ever appreciate A SINGLE NON-MUSLIM?
pravinak 2 years ago
Lata ji and Mukesh ji are greats... hope they are not muslims. kindly do not drag any religion, we respect all religion in same manner. And yes, KK could be no. 11.

It`s a shame .Innocence has been lost. Everything seems to have a perverted double meaning behind it.

As they say ignorance is bliss , rightfully!
If one is not exposed to various vices found in life then everything looks fine, but those who have seen it can tell the difference straightaway. Poor direction, real freinds even in India do not show affection this way.Poor poor direction and enactment.
