@damhaugandreas It looks like it was just a severe weather warning, but it may have been a tornadic supercell, which would be the reason for the sirens. If there's even the slightest chance that a thunderstorm will turn into a tornadic thunderstorm, they'll issue a siren warning.
Nature should get an Oscar for that show! You should be nominated for photography! That is some crazy lightning action, there! No waitng around for more.
not surprised a tornado was a couple miles away. that is one wicked storm. we get some pretty severe ones here in ohio when it gets muggy during the summer, one minute it will be sunny and the next minute there are black clouds on the horizon.
Oh yeah..i've been in Cincinatti..well...Newport on the Levee...(right across the Ohio river) staring at Cincinatti..sunny one minute...went to get some food came back and sure enough...ominous black clouds on the horizon..freaky..but i loved it
Excellent lightning video, Joe 1/8/77...at 7pm darkness before 830pm sunset... wish I could videotape such lightning here in RI and put onto Youtube...actually I do have some videos on Youtube from 8/13/07 and 10/11/07...hope to GET more on here...
I'be been recording Tstorms on audiotape since 4/27/73... over 34 years ago and videotaping Tstorms since 6/2/89..over 18 years ago..... and hope to put my older VHS and VHSc videos onto Youtube soon...!!!!
That was really quite spectacular! Seriously, I don't think I have seen anything as bad as that; only in the movies as they say.
The only time I have ever seen a lightning bolt, in fork lightning here in Britain, was when I was at school one day in 1992, I can still see it in my head.
The vid also reminded me of Guy Fawkes night what we celebrate in Britain, the whole country is turned into a warzone: a lot of people (like the boring gits) stay indoors.
for those who like the thunderstorms I've made a video named "night thunderstorm in paris" it's one hour of flashes reduced to 19 seconds (done with video editing)
Looks like the storm that just passed over us at 3am, in Halifax Nova Scotia. I've been hearing it for hours. I averaged about 3000 bolts over 60 minutes. It's still lingering off in the distance.
Watch my channel today... I'll post some of the highlights... It's CRAZY!
This is fantastic storm footage! I'm very impressed with your ability to continue with the video even after the power goes out. I probably would have crapped my pants. Nice work!
northern tip of Tornado Alley. I live in canada (southern most tip of it) and tornado alley extends upward toward London Ontario, Chatham, Windsor/Essex COunty. I live irght across from detroit. Michigan gets tornado warnings all the time too
they get better as the summer passes. like in july i get those afternoon storms out of nowhere all the time. i know u get those in london all the time too lol
nice. looks like a supercell almost because of all of the shelf clouds. i should start video taping some storms around my place. i get tornado warnings all the time around my place
Wow very severe storm, and i agree these are very scary weather events, but somewhat cool to see nature's fury... it's too bad we don't have these as much here, kind of want to experience some severe weather myself :)
I did. A Delta 757 flight from ATL to SAN. We were over 40,000FT lightning struck so close, the fuselage was twising by the air force on the wings up on one, down on the other ..the only announcement we heard was "Ladies & gentlemen, the plane is not being damaged" Scariest flight ever !!!!!!
another poster wrote about a time when he was on a plane and the thing was falling apart, but the captain came over the loudspeaker and said "the plane is not being damaged." THAT flight! LOL
At least you are smart to know when to go inside. I had a storm in Las Vegas that had lightning over my head. Only one did chase me go back into the house. The next one was enough that I heard the crackle before the bolt hit right above the neighborhood. Scary stuff but you have to respect these storms.
I'd be going crazy and hiding in the basement if this was near my house. I live in Pennsylvania and almost never get these, yet, i am like tornaphobic.
tornaphobic....LOL awesome. same here, but on nights where they are just under bad enough to get a torny, we do what every other pennsylvanian does...we go outside and watch the show!!! ;-)
this is so cool right now my area is in thunderstorm season , my sisters are scared to hell but im really excited, the thunderstorm yesterday was loud and cool!
yeah i agree with Korky122. i love really bad storms, but i would freak out majorly if there was a tornado. thats one of my biggest fears, is being in a tornado.
How can someone dilike this? Ive got thunderstorm videos recorded them last night got really loud! Uploaded them on here x

I remember a storm like that when i used to live
in northern wisconsin. It was late at night, my family was asleep, I was the only one up. I went
to go outside and suddenly the winds started to pick up and i begin to see lighting far away coming in. Winds were about 80 to 90 mph.
We had our lights went out and had some trees down and some house's by me had some damage to
them.
chrisrocks2072 4 years ago
see you know how to record a thunderstorm. All the other people say is "oh crap i just almost got struck by lightning"
