I like Metallica, but after their 4th album they went downhill, Death Magnetic was trash.

But Marty Friedman's influence on Megadeth should not be denied, I think that Rust in Peace is the high point in Thrash Metal history, tied with Vektor. Vektor rules.

I've been playing guitar for a while.. not a pro. not a beginner either but I hate to say I can't pick strings properly... my pick just slides and turns while Im strumming! and it gets out of my pick holding way and I've to stop and reset the pick.

@saznrai is not time, its lack of technique. you have to do what dave tells you here, bend the pick a litle bit and it will be a little bit easyer, but you can try the dunlop tortex pick or dunlop max grip (hold the pick with a little bit of strenght but not to much)

I've tried and tested in different angle while strumming or picking but if I put a little more strength then in the middle, my pick gets stuck in the string. I mean a little bit more of the pick gets inside the string and gets stuck.. if I had to say my biggest blockage in my guitar playing then it'd be the simple pick problems..

@saznrai well, thats a normal thing. it happened to me too. what i do is: if i'm doing tremolo picking stuff or speed picking i hold the pick in a really soft way, but if i'm doing stuff with pull offs stuff i hold the pick a little bit harder what i'm saying is that you have to find a balance between a soft way and a hard way to hold the pick so it will be easyer to pick notes without loosing the pick. and well i've been playing for 6 years and i play lots of metal but i love jazz and blues too

@cw5394 he didnt write ALL of them. specifically, the riffs in the four horsemen he wrote alone, and brought to metallica. as well as, jump in the fire, completely his song. he co wrote; call of ktulu, and seek and destroy. and one of the pre solo riffs on ride the lightning was inspired by his technique.

@Adennos . Theyre both amazing guitarist, theres no doubt about that. But they really have two different kinds of roles. What made Dave shoot to stardom is is brilliant songwriting abilities,thats what makes Dave who he is,he is a truly talented songwriter , he is Megadeth..As for Kirk, he is more know for his dazzeling guitar acrobats, thats whats makes Kirk who he is.I admire both of these guys , just in different ways.Its just silly to compare them in the same catagory.

A lot of people say, oh look, I'm just as good as this guy, i can play his song. Learning a song that is already written and produced is much different than writing a song. Kirk doesn't even make the songs for metallica, james does. To be like kirk, alls you need is a wah and the pentatonic scale.

I've been playing guitar for a while.. not a pro. not a beginner either but I hate to say I can't pick strings properly... my pick just slides and turns while Im strumming! and it gets out of my pick holding way and I've to stop and reset the pick.
whys that? and what exercise would be good?

@saznrai is not time, its lack of technique. you have to do what dave tells you here, bend the pick a litle bit and it will be a little bit easyer, but you can try the dunlop tortex pick or dunlop max grip (hold the pick with a little bit of strenght but not to much)

I've tried and tested in different angle while strumming or picking but if I put a little more strength then in the middle, my pick gets stuck in the string. I mean a little bit more of the pick gets inside the string and gets stuck.. if I had to say my biggest blockage in my guitar playing then it'd be the simple pick problems..

@saznrai well, thats a normal thing. it happened to me too. what i do is: if i'm doing tremolo picking stuff or speed picking i hold the pick in a really soft way, but if i'm doing stuff with pull offs stuff i hold the pick a little bit harder what i'm saying is that you have to find a balance between a soft way and a hard way to hold the pick so it will be easyer to pick notes without loosing the pick. and well i've been playing for 6 years and i play lots of metal but i love jazz and blues too
