Even if she knows he's trying to protect her, he's still a monster she doesn't want to have stuck on her. It's not supposed to be typical "Beauty and the Beast", it's KING KONG - Beauty KILLS the Beast - through unrequited love. This is how WE, the audience, come to sympathize with Kong's tragic plight.

Yes, there's a school of thought that Fay Wray was the most beautiful woman in America when this was filmed. She gives the original film one element the sequels simply cannot match. Jessica Lange and Niomi Watts are beautiful women in their own right but Fay Wray remains absolutely incendiary. That having been said, though, I do love Peter Jackson's version. (The 1970s remake was an utter travesty.)

King Kong (1933) is my favorite movie of all time, although i am not a huge fan of the color version, merian cooper/Willis obrian didnt care about painting the stop motion props. Because they only cared about black and white, therefore, to me at least, it looks very artificial.
