I own a 1x12 combo Galaxie 2009 and really like it. I use everything from a LP Standard, USA Strats, PRS Custom 24 and 22 and it handles it all very well. This is the first Dr. Z amp that I like live mainly because of the two channels and volumes. Other versions require more tweaking on the guitar volume that just does not work well live especially in modern rock. Also check GreerAmps for boutique amps at a super price. I have a thunderbolt 30 and use it more than my Z.
I also had a Dr Z Ghia, back when they were $499. It was a cool sounding amp but when I a/Bd it with my blond 64 Fender bassman, There was no reason to keep the Z. It wasn't even close. I'm not a vintage snob but the best amps I've ever owned was a vintage Marshall 1972 SL, the 64 Fender Bassman and a plexi reissue. I also had a Sovtek Mig50 for $250 that was incredible and some old Traynor nasmmasters that were great. Now all I have is a 1X8 EP Valve Jr. All tube EL84 for $120 brand new.
I really don't see why ANY builder these days would be unable to put together an amp that is as good as or better than a 64 Fender bassman. There is NO ancient lost knowledge regarding amplifiers. They were made 50 years ago, not 500 years ago. Everything is documented.
You're an complete idiot. I just stated that two of my favorite four amps are amps that were made today and you are stupid enough to make that comment. What a bonehead you are.
You just had to find a way to piss on every piece of equipment of the video poster. "I had a Dr. Z back then and it sucked ", "I had a Reverend back then and it sucked". You are the bonehead here.
With regards to the Dr Z, my exact words were "it was a cool sounding amp" and your interpretation of what I said is "it sucked" Interesting. In regards to the Reverend, I could lie and say it sounded wonderful in order to make this world a better place but then I would be misleading people and that's not nice. Should we all agree on everything? Is that the answer to world peace? Perhaps it is the lack of comprehension of ignoramuses like you who cause most of the problems. You're a dullard.
You try to A/B a Carmen Ghia, which is a 18W tube-rectified amp with EL84s, and a 64 Bassman, which is a 50W head ss-rectified with 6L6s, and I am the dullard? How about A/Bing an apple and an orange? Or Coltrane and Chet Atkins?
I didn't try, I DID a/b them. They are both sitting there. Why wouldn't I compare them? Because they use different tubes? Because one of them is slightly louder? I guess we shouldn't compare guitars either, because of the differences in wood, pickups and electronics. Lets not compare cars either because they us completely different engines. I don't give a rats ass about wattage, tubes and rectifiers. Sit them both down, play em and pick a winner and I pick you as a real winner.
I had a reverend when they were made of plastic(it was really mostly made of wood) it had two hummers. I loved the look, the light weight, great neck and excellent build quality but it sounded like crap. I had a Peavey WG special at the time which sounded so much better with every amp. I even took the Reverend to my local store to see if it was the guitar or just the combination with my amps. It sounded like shit with every amp there too. The store owner agreed. I sold it after 3 days.
where you from, you sound like a fellow bostonian.

fog13, I really like both amps a lot. The Z is really new to me so it's my favorite at the moment... The 2 amps are very different, that's for sure.

Nice playing as always!
How do you like the Z compared to your Budda?
