Why are genitive pronouns combined with "self" for 1st and 2nd person reflexive pronouns but objective pronouns are used for 3rd person? I've read this in several usage texts, and I can't find an explanation. Wouldn't it make more sense to use genitive across the board? I think that would fit the meaning of the sentence better.
Thanks! I understand it better. A little. But does it always have to be a personal pronoun to be reflexive? What if you had a name like Darren Himself did not know where the gifts were hidden? Is that reflexive?
really helpfull

no that is an intensive pronoun. i had questions about that too. I remember it by how it kind of intensifies the sentence.
