Looks great! It's good to see a brick engine with proper conrods and valvegear rather than oscillating cylinders :) Have you ever tried making a two-cylinder version using a mirror image of the first cylinder? You could build a minifig-scale workshop with fake machinery powered by this engine... That would be great to see- all pulleys and drive belts everywhere
Actually, it only runs this way because I vary the power of the vacuum to show off different speeds. It runs very well when kept at a constant power level.
My next project will be to iether upgrade this to a twin-cylinder engine or a beam engine.
try using a smaller valve travel and a bigger flywheel. it works for me!! also try making some upright ones or ones with pop valves. they sound really cool [:

Great engine but if you would remove one of the counter weights it may work better.

It worked great, I was varying the speed on the vacuum.

its a reciprocating engine

How did you get the slidevalve to work? I tried and it kept getting stuck. :(
SciGuy16 3 years ago
You might have to sacrifice the lego blocks and file them down a bit, adding guides at each end of the steam chest helps, you must lessen friction.
Adjusting bits to get the timing right is also important, I know how a steam engine works so I aplied that knowledge into the model.

OK Thanks. :)

No probs.

Use a little bit of KY jelly on all moving parts. It helps with friction issues.

do you have any instructions for it? i love the way it runs and want to build it.
Savageowner610 4 years ago
No. I have nothing.
JonatanGronoset 4 years ago
i could give you instructions on how to build a 9 1/3 brick tall 6 stud long and 6 stud wide engine
RevanantGod 2 years ago
send it man!!!

Does the wee centrifugal governor there actually do anything or is it just for effect?
AgainstTheeWickedly 4 years ago
Just for effect.

No. Just experiment and see what works.

Nope, I didn't build a drawing in Ldraw or anything.
JonatanGronoset 5 years ago
Can you send me a ldraw file of your engine?

I used my mighty intellect to put some random pieces togeather. :P
Nuh, it was challenging, and took alot of tweaking to get it right. But in a mechanic logic view it's a very simple construction.

wtf you can use compression with a vaccume cleaner derrr but how did you build it
