It looks as though he was trying to get it to climb on the stick to interact with it without direct contact. To all the people who are commenting about how it was "poked" with a stick, read the video information before you make a comment, although it's nice you care. They were releasing it back into the wild after rescuing it. They didn't "poke" it, they put the stick in front of it to stop it from going in that direction, probably onto the footpath or towards civilisation. They didn't harm the animal, and were probably acting in it's best interests, guiding it in the best direction for it to go.
