  • One of the great American pop music recordings. Don't know how many times I've heard it over the past 40-odd years, yet it never feels to move me.

  • 1946 seems rather early to me -- '56, perhaps?

    Lovely song, mangificent singer --

  • @stevevandien Thanks, you're correct, it was composed in 1956. best, david (from my other channel)

  • So beautiful. What happened to men and women? This is where it's at!

  • @ToeIn2194 :)

  • Great song.

  • I like the way he says to-hoo hoo hear her laugh

  • I introduced this song to my 14 year old daughter who fell in love with it... she is in high school choir and I wanted to introduce her to some really awesome music my parents introduced to me... and now she wants to learn these songs.... makes me happy that she has found such a love of such songs like this...

  • this is called a velvet voice thanks

  • So rich and haunting. I loved it the first time I heard it on an oldies station KABL. Sigh, wish it didn't go off the air.

  • OMG this sounds soooooo good. So much soul, so much passion, I can't keep from swaying when I hear it.

  • This has to be one of his best performances and every time a hear it played on the radio, I think back to my Happy Days. When I was a young man I could imitate Johhny's voice so perfectly that many listeners thought it was the record player with one of his hits playing. I still have a great voice at 71 and I can croon with the best of the ballad singers even at my age. Thanks to Johhny Mathis, I have good memories to carry into old age along with his great music. • the man with the velvet voice

  • SO hard to pick a favorite by Johnny, but I've loved this for so many years!

  • I adore this tune. The first version I ever heard was this one. I now have it in my repertoire and I have modelled it to this particular recording.

  • There is no black singer today who can even be in the same sentence as this man.

  • @frankieheartsful deniece williams. why it gotta be racial?

  • I grew up with this music... even though it was my Mom's music, I really liked it and still do. Johnny was on Leno recently. Great to see him still singing, but he seems somewhat sad as a person....

  • @writerjmd Your comment intrigues me. Can you tell more? I love these songs and have often wondered about Mr. Mathis and how he is these days.

  • @ToeIn2194 I don't know much, just that he is still well and still singing. He has been singing for over 50 years now.

  • Heavens to Murgatroid! If Mr Mathis was any more cool, he'd be frozen! Strictly from wowsville, daddy-o! What a talent...what a voice! And this is my all time favorite song of his! THANK YOU so very much for posting it! You've MADE my day & my weekend!

  • @JubalCalif Glad you like it! best, david

  • I have the same record. :D

  • This brings back memories from long ago. Beautiful interpretation by Johnny. Thanks for the upload.
