Messed around with Mesas at that booth many times. The thing about Mesas is that you go "yeah, this sounds great", then after about 5 minutes, you go"Nah, it really doesn't sound that great after all."
I'll take my moody Marshalls over a Mesa any day. Waaay more personality.

@42littlebit It's what they keep in the Mesa Booths at namm. Also Anderson's are really nice. I'd take one over his Ibanez sig model that he had at the time.
@42littlebit My main guitar is a Tom Anderson Cobra. Been playing 27 years and I've never ever seen anything come close. Makes my PRS seem like a toy. I do want a Petrucci model MM tho'. ;)
@42littlebit I have a 1985 PRS Standard - the 84th PRS ever made. Bought it brand new in 1985 from one of the first PRS dealers ever (Swissvale Music) here in Pittsburgh. It's still in immaculate condition. Eventually I'm going to have to build a vault & have SWAT supervision for it. LOL
At the end he's checking the harmony between the guitar and the amp, they made a badass sound together, hence that he smiled afterwards, it's a check!
He's not playing crazy stuff beacause he dosent have anything to prove. everyone knows how badass he is. he's paying attention to the tone of the amp rather than the notes he's playing.
@MostEvil7string i'm assuming he's improvising. starts off with a basic walkdown riff laying down a foundation. nothing super flashy here. doesn't sound like anything from DT or his Suspended Animation CD. The only other thing I think it could be would be something from Explorers Club...but I doubt it.

if i was one of the best guitar players in the world "wich i may be" ..lol i would play the guitar so everyone new it, he could have been anyone if you was listening from a distance.
OR, you could decide to not be an attention-seeking asshole, and just try out the amp for your own sake, just like the other people there are trying to do. I think JP is enough of a man to not run around looking for confirmation and ego boosts.
i agree, but he is being filmed, and seen as he's such an amazing player, if he was to purchase this amp he would be playing the shit out of it and shredding as he doe's. So he should play it like he would at home, and add some style for the cam, guys who dont show off are boring to watch ! but im also aware he's just playing a few riffs and testing it casualy.
john petrucci isn't concerned with your youtube entertainment. him not showing off in a guitar shop is still the best guitar player i've seen. and he is in a guitar shop.
rofl precisely, why the fuck would he want to show off every time he tries out an amp? He is trying to hear the amp and tone, not practice or perform. I fucking loved seeing him play some LTE riffs.
actully, anyone can go..you just have to buy a membership..I work for a guitarshop and have gone a few times. They give the Vendors Red badges, Retail Owners/buyers, Blue badges, and Yellow is for general public...they used to not allow general public in until the last 2 days, so the first 2 days could be used for buisness.
you can try out most anything.. its up to the booth's discretion. Most people will let you try out whatever, some really uptight people wont, and some assholes (ahem gibson) wont even let you in their booth now, unless you have a reservation or are on this list.
Since JP had a 11C+ b4 I would think he'd want to check out new mrk VI..Just a guess. Wonder if that was IIc+ channel. It sounded like IIC+...I heard the mesa guy say mesa was going for a spongier sound too.
Still very middy, but who knows how it was dialed in.
