This is excellent because today when I WAS trying to write the great American novel. I looked for a new curling iron for about 30 mins. Then I spoke to a friend on the phone for about an hour. Then I answered an email from Netflix. Then I went to walk the dogs...etc

This is profound. It actually (and I kid you not) is far more advanced than half the new novelists I know. But then again, the last ten I've read are fantasy novels with twenty at least twenty differen types of characters by page ten - each. By comparison, just sitting at the keyboard in chaps is at least ensuring focus.

I disagree! Yes, you should follow the entire process, but your operating system is of utmost importance. Mac sucks for everything excluding graphic design, so unless you are creating the Great American GRAPHIC NOVEL, use a PC.
