Well, maybe he's not 100% rational. However, the swine flu epidemic is one case the medical establishment would rather like to bury very deep, and forget it ever happened. I didn't get a swine-flu vaccine either, but not because I thought it ineffective, but because it was unnecessary where I live. Serves as a reminder that we are all human and make mistakes and accept wrong ideas.
I'm 100% pro vaccines for kids, like for polio and diphtheria etc.
But there is absolutely no reason for healthy adults to get a flu vaccine(svine-bird-common), it will only generate stronger viruses. It's called evolution.
Example: in Tennessee pig-weed has become rampant because there is no herbicide in the world that can kill it because it has become resistant. Why, because of excess use of herbicides.
That's one side of the story that I agree with (thx for typing it out already). We all know what's happening with antibiotics, and MDR bacteria :(.
There's more though... A big part of the story is the pharmaceutical industry which is hellbent on making shitloads of cash. They give docters free stuff (including expensive vacations) just to get em to "sell" their products as much as possible. This concerns me a lot, it's a big problem...
(continued) There is only a very small portion of the public that has the knowlage to determine which medicine is effective, which isn't, which is unneeded and which is potentially harmful. This is problematic, as there's a giant money machine making sure we consume as much as possible. And in these complex biological systems, even the experts don't know what the potential bad long-term effects of medicine (including vaccines) are: there's no real control group.
What's all that ranting about? Your calling him hypocrite is just stupid, like if he planned to be wrong on vaccines propaganda but right against conspiracy theorists. There's no hypocrisy, he was wrong but to him swine shot did seem a bad idea. Everybody'right and wrong in some place, thus the whole point of not taking people's words for granted truths and think for yourself. And he's not that wrong, viruses do mutate and vaccines ARN'T flawless, though no they arn't bad for sure.
@2CSST2 Furthermore you're just misinterpreting his point, he didn't say he's "anti-vaccine". His point is that vaccines do have their disadvantages, they are costly and can cause adverse reaction. It IS true that there are abuses of vaccines, for exemple during the H1N1 way too much of them have been produced, and that during an economic recession. Don't misinterpret, we're not talking about vaccines being bad here, we're talking about the use of them being bad
@swingvalse it's a shame you still have to comment after I told you to stop, because I am now blocking you for at least a week because of your innate babble. Now please, go bother people somewhere else.
@bubbamickmac You mean inane, not innate, you pretend-polite, slime ball, canned rhetoric using f*ck. How about you look at the science, that says that germ theory is just a psy-op. There are potentially deadly microbes all over the place, no escape, no matter how much damn hand sanitizer you slather all over yourself. And likely, one day, some of these germs will play a role in killing you because you poisoned your liver with toxic preservatives from vaccines, douchebag.
@PeiperJ2 'You have heard', give me a break, which campaign briefing was this! This blog is like those ones that try to socially hyjack and sell bling with 'Ohhh have you seen that new Virsachi handbag in black'. Didn't Google recently shut down one of these septic blogs because you were all multi posting with different ID's. You really need to up your game a bit.
@PeiperJ2 Germ theory is that : 'a theory'. 40 years of study by the national cold and flu unit funded by the British Government was unable to prove the contagion theory of flu. So it shut down. Apparently there are still some people who actually think you can catch the flu! Remarkable. I have this image that you either come home from a day flipping burgers, suddenly overpowered by the desire to save the world from the anti establishment or you are paid to blog BS, which is it?
@PeiperJ2 There are actually some people who think 'getting ill' is bad luck or caused by lack of visiting your doctor. Whilst these myths are spread people will die. You septics are all the same, unable to engage in a debate, unable to digest real facts and only capable of repeating marketing mantras.
Anything you don't like you call a conspiracy, try and insult the character or just shut the debate down.
This video is brilliant, I doubt you even listened to the discussion.

No but it does contain: in addition to mercury, flu vaccines also contain other toxic or hazardous ingredients like: * Formaldehyde -- a known cancer-causing agent * Aluminum -- a neurotoxin that has been linked to Alzheimer’s disease * Triton X-100 -- a detergent * Phenol (carbolic acid) * Ethylene glycol (antifreeze)
* Various antibiotics: neomycin, streptomycin, gentamicin – which can cause allergic reactions.
You're assuming that swine flu actually exists! How bonkers is that? Next you will be telling us we can actually catch it! How medieval is that, call for injection 5, it's the only thing that will save us from the lurgy.
It is amazing that all pro vaccine rants are basically supporting an anecdote that 'vaccinations work' 'vaccinations save lives'. Why then are they exempt from placebo RCT follow up studies that show they 'work'.
Vaccines don't make a large profit because the biggest cost of production is the purchasing of insurance against future litigation. They got round that with swine flu because half the pandemic flu committee for the WHO were on retainers so the whole ballpark supported exemption from prosecution over side effects because of the fake emergency.
So they added in loads of jet trash adjuncts that they had tried for years to get licenses for, how's that for grateful science.
If the ex editors of major medical peer review journals say you can't believe anything printed in them they are the ones in the position to make a valid statement, not you. The 'peer review system' is there to maintain the status quo under the guise of promoting science. Peer review gave us Vioxx, killed 160,000 people world wide until the cost of litigation outweighed the profits from sales. You need to come up to speed with what is happening, not keep repeating anecdotes.
This may be the only time I supported what Bill Frist had to say. On this issue and HIV/AIDS denial, and germ theory denial, Maher is a kook. He has swallowed far too much libertarian Kool Aid.
Swine flue is quite dangerous for a portion of the populous. And part of the hysteria was also the fear that it would mutate again into something more deadly. So was it worth the risk of the vaccine? yes. Was it ethically sound that private companies made good money developing and selling it? no. Do "anti-vaccers" have a case? No! Vaccines are up there alongside, or arguably above, antibiotics in terms of keeping us healthy. And I'd rather get it from the government than a private corporation!
Vaccination works! But only for highly contagious diseases. It youre talking diseases with extremely low communicability (like swine flu) then the vaccination is just an extra expense, and in an extreme case could even cause more harm. Dont treat all vaccinations as worthless, just ask yourself if the vaccine is more dangerous than the disease. Swine flu isnt polio!!!!
You do realise that barely anyone on either side of the political spectrum denies germ theory, whereas the Republican party has all but made it standard doctrine to deny the possibility of evolution, right? This example notwithstanding, denialism of science is an extremely conservative thing.
You do realise that barely anyone on either side of the political spectrum denies germ theory, whereas the Republican party has all but made it standard doctrine to deny the possibility of evolution, right? This example notwithstanding, denialism of science is an extremely conservative thing.
On the other hand, why in the fuck are people applauding this? If someone you respect on an intellectual level starts spewing BS, you should sit there in horror, not clap.
@ChaosSamusX According to a 2007 Gallup poll, it's true that most (68%) republicans reject evolution, but I don't think that's enough to say it's standard.
The ex editors of the British Medical Journal and the New England journal of Medicine have both gone on record as saying you effectively can believe nothing written in a peer reviewed medical journal due to funding issues. That means corruption. So whatever your pro vaccine stance the 'evidence' you are waving in the wind as scientific is baseless.
@swingvalse Don't trust independent scientists checking each others facts? Your not just calling BS on vaccines but the entire scientific freakin' method!
If a scientist is caught publishing BS, his credibility is shot. Not just a couple guys in a basement called bullshit on this, but thousands from many organizations spanning the globe. The peer review system to in place specifically to avoid corruption. You'd have to hold the leash on literally the entire academic community to pull that off.
It is the 'medical scientific method' that is not scientific, if I had a car with a noisy engine would I give the owner earplugs or sort the oil pump out? Treating arthritis with painkillers is no different, the medical peer review process thinks it's scientific!
So who are these 'independent scientists' 'checking all the facts'. The WHO certainly isnt, nor is the CDC. Perhaps you would like to tell us who they are? Or maybe you are just repeating religious medical mantras.
Ok you are behaving like a religious loon. If a 96 season study by the Cochraine Collaboration concluded last year that there is effectively no EBM for flu shot efficacy you need to read that and understand that it means it doesn't work. Flu jab Zealots claimed that flu shots halve winter deaths, when only 10% of winter deaths are attributed to flu like illnesses you have to include RTA's to make the figures stack up.
Thanks for posting this great video, Bill trashes the medics.
@swingvalse Scientists often post papers on their universities websites for the public to read, and a paper must be attacked in the academic arena long before it can be published. That's how we cured polio.
What are you really going after? First was vaccines. Then the journals. Then the entire scientific world. These are massive accusations your making. You seem to forget you carry the burden of proof, not those in the established, credible vast majority. Never forget Sagan's Standard.
I suppose you can't even see that posting this video has done the opposite of what you are trying and failing to do. Whilst the septic fraternity continues to use the ad hominem attack as its only weapon you are missing the real message in Bill's great video 'we need a proper debate'. It is people like you that are keeping health care in the dark ages, like banshees in a tabernacle. Please post more of Bill's great videos, until I came across your post I had never heard of him!
He has a point you have to hold science to a standard because no one questioned dr freeman for the lobotomy disasters for years.Sometimes scientist are crazy and we have watch them carefully.
PS I don't stand for what he said on the vaccines.but luckily there being watched closely
Yes polio vaccine was a good thing. yawn, swine flu ? How long ago was it that the media and government said it is a "pandemic"? As with global warming, this is a lot of noise for nothing. But it also means big profits for many people and for large companies, plus a lot of disturbances for travelers, tourists, etc. And, of course, this report generated fear that was exploited by the media to make more money. In 2011 they will come up with some other quacky flu, maybe the Chinese swine duck flu !
And you can say that the vaccine was ineffective because what? Because we used it and the projected results of not using it came true? But wait, that's not what happened. People were in a panic and the vaccine came along, coincidentally as you might claim, the next predicted surge was much lower than the initial one. If one vaccine works, then by the same principles we can show that another one should or will. If you're going to deny one vaccine then provide something
i had the swine flu, i never got the h1n1 vaccination.. and im perfectly alright. i was greivously sick for a week or two but afterwards i was back to normal.. its just a flu, the flu doesnt kill people unless you have a peexsisting medical condition.
@sandwichassassin It does kill people, check the stats, google if you want and you'll probably know how many people have died, people without pre-existing medical condition. Reason? Virus evolves a lot faster than you think, and so it is likely that it could be more dangerous than you actually think it is because the virus that you got and the one that killed all those other people were different, some of these viruses even immune to the vaccinations.
@sandwichassassin well I don't know about that. flu kills people I went to a co worker funeral lomao he died of the flu, so don't take the flu shot.you been lucky so far.
Where's the vacine for Dennis Miller? And what kind of vacine is Miller using on himself that keeps him immune from criticism from fellow comics? Surely they all can't be afraid of little ol' Dennis.
I don't get the impression from Bill's statements that he denies the effectiveness of vaccines, just that the vaccines themselves are occasionally the cause of health issues. Overall the odds are better to get the vaccines but I think that there's some reasonable cause for concern based on what chemicals are used along with the dead virus cells.
No, Bill said, at 3:29, and I quote. "I would never get a swine flue vaccine, or any vaccine" C0ncordance said it best, "He's taken sides against science, medicine and critical thinking. What he's advocating is dangerous to the innocent and naive."
Very Well Said. He never said he was a vaccine denialist. He said there was a difference in the vaccine you can get. Some work, some don't. He was saying "lets have a real debate" not blindly follow any vaccine the government makes.
@realenglish1 That's very true, most of the time. Except when he starts spouting nonsense about vaccines. Let me assure you, on this subject, overwhelming peer reviewed data and the scientific consensus is way smarter than him. Both of which Maher respects when it comes to proving ie the age of the Earth, but somehow isn't worth a damn when it doesn't back up his new age alt medicine conspiracy nonsense.
there's a lot of difference between vaccine denialist and the lack of trust of vaccines provided by a governement that is willing to make millions of dollars while in bed with the pharmaceutics companies. if you blindly ttrust all vaccines just because they come from your government, you are as blind as vaccines denialists...
Vaccine denialists make the baby Jesus cry. Also doctors, and people who have had the disease in question, and diabetics and pregnant people, and doctors, and rationalists...
I'm slightly confused as to why he simply kicked the 9-11 truthers out. If he REALLY wanted to make his point, he could have argued. If he didn't make a counter-argument that was valid, then HE'S the one that should be booed out.
Considering all the other lies the government has told us in the past, I really wouldn't be surprised if the WTC was brought down by controlled demolition. (Primary suspicion is the fact that no other steel frame structure in history has collapsed due to fire.)
@MetroidfanCNC That's what you do with hecklers. You kick them out. If they have a legitimate point, they can approach the debate table like civilized people and wait their turn to present their case. If Mr. Mahr refuses to debate them, the proper thing to do is seek a venue where they can be heard.
Heckling is a tactic used solely by people who know they don't have logical leg to stand on, and hope to win by shutting down the debate. If they get the last word in, they win, right?
@Craydon Hey, sorry about voting you down. I accidentally hit the button when it popped up. I was going to say I agree, the thug act was uncalled for. Telling security to throw them out was quite enough.
I think Bill Maher just like I believe that not so deadly disease should not be hyped, even if its good for health in general cause people get more careful and wash their hands more often. Preventive medicine is good for diseases with a high death ratio, if our natural defence can handle it in 99,9% cases a vaccine is not needed imo.
@serNevh so basically what you are saying is that you are willing to sacrifice one in a thousand people for each disease which we also have safe vaccines against because 99,9% will somehow get through it.
There is no standard vaccine on the market which risks outweigh the benefits, believe it or not.
@Urschleim I am saying that when its one ot of one thousand its usually not just that disease that only causes the death rather other things which would cause a death otherwise in any way.
Many viruses gets immune to treatments if we use them too much, The main reason I think that we shouldnt over treat our selves is that we should not become too dependent on medicine. Ok I do agree that a vaccine may not be the best example but still I hope you get my point.
@serNevh You're thinking bacteria and antibiotics when you speak of over medication and subsequent adaption to treatment. Viruses works differently and generally the best strategy with them IS to inoculate as many people as possible that may become exposed to a strain.
I never got vaccinated for swine flu and i'm fine. The worst that happened was 3 days of being ill. The swine flu was over-hyped. I'm not against vaccines, but you should have full disclosure of what you get injected into your body. Who knows, perhaps they do have poisonous chemicals in the vaccines. They have fluoride in our water supply, and aspartame in much of our foods and beverages. It's not unlikely they would taint vaccines as well.
remember! You can't trust Science! :) Scientists across the globe have banded together to make our lives miserable...and they still get to keep their jobs! :)
@comeade Lol. My bad man. It's hard to catch sarcasm in text. Also, add in the fact that i've seen this same comment on plenty of other videos and you can see where im coming from.
This really threw me off Bill. I like him but his Anti Vaccine standpoint really bothers me. I am for science, logic and rational thinking and deductive logic. My sisters best friend didn't get the H1N1 vaccine and she ended up getting H1N1. Her reasoning was 10 years down the road she could get cancer cause of the needle, and she started citing sites for me to look at for the truth on vaccines.
I've not watched a lot of Bill Maher stuff but generally I have found him fairly intelligent and enlightened but this video and similar I have seen just goes to show that even reasonably well-educated and intelligent people can be 'stupid' and misinformed on certain subjects.
The problem isn't vaccines in theory necessarily, for example if you get bitten by a rabid animal, you might want a rabies vaccine.
The problem is the vaccines that are produced are made with a bunch of toxic adjuncts and many of them are worthless possibly. It's a business and an exploitation to REAL possible vaccines that can save lives.
The main reason disease is not a huge concern today possibly is that people have better hygiene, sewage systems, anti bacterial soaps...etc
The more "open" hosts there are, the higher chance a mutant strain could evolve.
The worst case scenario is a half asses vaccination, cuz you'd be sorting out strains that will survive and still provide many many open hosts with not even partial protection.
Single dose VACC is without thimerosal, multiple dosage bottle has it.
Injection with 25000x the expected life dose of thimerosal into test subjects without any noted side effect
I disagree with Maher on vaccines, too. But he has the right to speak his mind on his program, even if it disagrees with both of us. I usually find myself on his side. I don't see how his disagreement with truthers makes him a hypocrite if he agrees with those who believe in a different conspiracy.
Oh noes, mercury in my vaccines! Oh wait, you say it's less than the amount in a tuna fish sandwich? Huh.

This is problematic, as there's a giant money machine making sure we consume as much as possible. And in these complex biological systems, even the experts don't know what the potential bad long-term effects of medicine (including vaccines) are: there's no real control group.
TakesTwoToTango 9 months ago
What's all that ranting about? Your calling him hypocrite is just stupid, like if he planned to be wrong on vaccines propaganda but right against conspiracy theorists. There's no hypocrisy, he was wrong but to him swine shot did seem a bad idea. Everybody'right and wrong in some place, thus the whole point of not taking people's words for granted truths and think for yourself. And he's not that wrong, viruses do mutate and vaccines ARN'T flawless, though no they arn't bad for sure.
2CSST2 11 months ago
@2CSST2 Furthermore you're just misinterpreting his point, he didn't say he's "anti-vaccine". His point is that vaccines do have their disadvantages, they are costly and can cause adverse reaction. It IS true that there are abuses of vaccines, for exemple during the H1N1 way too much of them have been produced, and that during an economic recession. Don't misinterpret, we're not talking about vaccines being bad here, we're talking about the use of them being bad

@PeiperJ2 Germ theory is that : 'a theory'. 40 years of study by the national cold and flu unit funded by the British Government was unable to prove the contagion theory of flu. So it shut down. Apparently there are still some people who actually think you can catch the flu! Remarkable.
Apparently this is supposed to be good for you!

Something a large amount of Vaccine Hysteria proponents miss is that vaccines don't make that large a profit in pharmaceuticals.
Compare these two:
A vaccine that is given on average once every one to three years.
An Anti depressant that someone takes once a day for twenty years.
Which one is going to be making the most money?
TheNamelessCharacter 1 year ago
@TheNamelessCharacter

He has swallowed far too much libertarian Kool Aid.
heathdwatts 1 year ago

Schragmeister 1 year ago
@Schragmeister
The ex editors of the British Medical Journal and the New England journal of Medicine have both gone on record as saying you effectively can believe nothing written in a peer reviewed medical journal due to funding issues. That means corruption. So whatever your pro vaccine stance the 'evidence' you are waving in the wind as scientific is baseless.
swingvalse 1 year ago
@swingvalse Don't trust independent scientists checking each others facts? Your not just calling BS on vaccines but the entire scientific freakin' method!
If a scientist is caught publishing BS, his credibility is shot. Not just a couple guys in a basement called bullshit on this, but thousands from many organizations spanning the globe. The peer review system to in place specifically to avoid corruption. You'd have to hold the leash on literally the entire academic community to pull that off.
Schragmeister 1 year ago
@Schragmeister
It is the 'medical scientific method' that is not scientific, if I had a car with a noisy engine would I give the owner earplugs or sort the oil pump out? Treating arthritis with painkillers is no different, the medical peer review process thinks it's scientific!

Ok you are behaving like a religious loon. Flu jab Zealots claimed that flu shots halve winter deaths, when only 10% of winter deaths are attributed to flu like illnesses you have to include RTA's to make the figures stack up.
Thanks for posting this great video, Bill trashes the medics.
swingvalse 1 year ago
@swingvalse Scientists often post papers on their universities websites for the public to read, and a paper must be attacked in the academic arena long before it can be published. That's how we cured polio.

JonathanSeagullUtube 1 year ago
@JonathanSeagullUtube
If you're going to deny one vaccine then provide something

sandwichassassin 1 year ago
@sandwichassassin It does kill people, check the stats, google if you want and you'll probably know how many people have died, people without pre-existing medical condition. Reason? Virus evolves a lot faster than you think, and so it is likely that it could be more dangerous than you actually think it is because the virus that you got and the one that killed all those other people were different, some of these viruses even immune to the vaccinations.

Considering all the other lies the government has told us in the past, I really wouldn't be surprised if the WTC was brought down by controlled demolition. (Primary suspicion is the fact that no other steel frame structure in history has collapsed due to fire.)

Heckling is a tactic used solely by people who know they don't have logical leg to stand on, and hope to win by shutting down the debate. If they get the last word in, they win, right?

I think Bill Maher just like I believe that not so deadly disease should not be hyped, even if its good for health in general cause people get more careful and wash their hands more often. Preventive medicine is good for diseases with a high death ratio, if our natural defence can handle it in 99,9% cases a vaccine is not needed imo.
serNevh 1 year ago
@serNevh so basically what you are saying is that you are willing to sacrifice one in a thousand people for each disease which we also have safe vaccines against because 99,9% will somehow get through it.
There is no standard vaccine on the market which risks outweigh the benefits, believe it or not.
Urschleim 1 year ago
@Urschleim I am saying that when its one ot of one thousand its usually not just that disease that only causes the death rather other things which would cause a death otherwise in any way.
Many viruses gets immune to treatments if we use them too much, The main reason I think that we shouldnt over treat our selves is that we should not become too dependent on medicine. Ok I do agree that a vaccine may not be the best example but still I hope you get my point.
serNevh 1 year ago

Vaccines has a pretty on going winning streak.
