  • the inhabitants of a biofilm feed off of each other's waste material. This video is very accurate. A biofilm is an entity, a living entity. The inhabitants communicate with each other and make changes with respect to the environmental changes. Check out some of the other biofilm videos I'm sure you'll see this one is truthful.

  • This might be true but the way it is presented is not accurate. How can possibly micro organism grow and proliferate without any nutrients in water. Simple tap water is chlorinated and not enriched with proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and mineral. These are nutrient would be essential for growth and proliferation of biofilms. This is bit exaggeration the way it is presented in movies. I know there are some level of biofilms in water pipelines but not as much as the way it is portrayed.

  • Kevin-

Your statement is entirely untrue. This is very accurate. Microorganisms can survive on very little, and the small amount of chlorine in our tap water only kills most of the germs, not all of them. Biofilms do not need "protiens, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins and mineral(s)" They are single celled organisms, not tiny human beings. If you were to open up a water pipeline, or even a dental unit waterline that your dentist uses to spray your mouth, you would see that the threat is real.

  • @missjamie166 Whoa! You've both made a couple of errors here! Biofilm in it's self is not living, it is excreated by microorganisms and is used to aid mobility and protect. Biofilm is EXTREAMLY resistant to cleaning and chlorine based products will not remove any significant amounts. If fact chlorine actually contributes to the reproduction of biofilm based contamination by providing new places to reproduce, in the same way clearing trees allows new plants access to sunlight.

  • Thanks for posting this! it was very helpful.
