  • I don't understand the order of the membrane installation in this video. I would think to install Kerdi to the base first, then the Kerdi band on the bottom, then the Kerdi kereck on the bottom corners. Followed by the walls, and lastly vertical band in the corners. I imagine the most water tight installation going like this....almost like shingling a roof...bottom to top. Any input would greatly be appreciated.

  • @bakemoney81 It really doesn't matter how you do it as the thinset and kerdi membrane bond is waterproof. I think the reason they are doing it in this order is so you don't keep walking on the membrane on the pan as you do the rest of the shower, that would totally cause it to fail. I install the pan and the drain and kerdi over the pan first and then walk away and return the next day to the remainder of the installation-cause I feel just like you about the installation-but that's just me

  • Respond to this video... I also extend the kerdi from the curb out into the room several inches, especially at the corners. 99% of all failures happen at this juncture-outside the shower. I usually overlap that area with Ditra as well so it is totally bulletproof.

  • @noblahblahblah I too installed to Kerdi onto the floor for the Ditra. It is totally water proof.

  • @bakemoney81 I was wondering the same thing when first installing the Kerdi membrane. But the water proofing is in the 2" minimum overlap with the thin-set as the adhesive. Water will not penetrate providing your corner to corner, wall to floor, etc., are properly bonded with thin-set. The top-to-bottom overlap as in shingles or tar paper doesn't matter.
