It would appear they need over-sized props, WGI gimmickery, or electronically enhanced soloists to get up in the top 3. It's not enough to play long passages of fantastically arranged music, with drill that so perfectly embodies that music, and all its nuances. Hmmmm. Ok. Still my favorite show of the summer. Thanks, SCV!

@euphdude0812 LOL are you kidding about the Blue Devils? 2010 show they barely played OR marched, let alone did both simultaneously.

And there's quite a bit of moving while playing here. Notice the 15 yards covered in the last 8 beats of movement 1 by some trumpets on the right side.

Yes, there is some holding and playing, particularly in the second movement. But I'd like to see another group attempt to play the double tonguing figure starting at 3:54 while spread sideline to sideline.

@euphdude0812 the point is that SCV didnt choose to do a flashy show like BD's; instead they chose a pretty musically sophisticated show (not saying BD's wasnt, but this one was difficult for sure) like this one without ever thinking about how they would place in finals

@Kiba450 Blue Devils definitely had some notes bro. Not saying it was enjoyable or gold medal worthy, but they had some major reefs in there. Interesting show, interesting music, interesting reaction. It seems real fashionable to hate on BD these days....

@08CaptT Eh they had some loud/high notes. Wasn't difficult dexterity wise and the sound was messy. Clean attacks though for sure. I didn't find the show interesting because it just seemed far too disjointed to me.

Not hating on them because it's fashionable, hating on them because I dislike their style and it lacks marching and playing skill, which is what the activity should be about, right? They had hooks on the mirrors to hold their horns and spent 1/3 of the show behind them -.-
