I can do it now try pressing the R2 button and then it's simply a case of pressing X and quickly tap OO and hay prestow you jump of the atlantean pole to the ledge.

Tip also usefull later on in the game.

Thank you now I know how to get to this item I don't know why I just got here yesterday and couldn't seem to get up there.

I tried doing that but I keep jumping OFF from the atlantean-pole-like thing and not jumping TOWARDS the ledge :S

If the jump isn't succesful on the first try and the pillar sinks, you can complete the level by lowering the rest of the pillars and pull the lever, this will reset the pillars and even if you pick it up on the level after it still register as the Artifact for Natla's Mines :-)

That's correct. The level ends when you open the gate by lowering the lever, but you can just pick it up right after on the next level as the pillars rise again :-)
