jeez this simulated storm is almost as bad as the storms back home in russia more specifically siberia sometimes in a siberian storm if you stand outside for one minute the posibility is there that you can be frozen solid in that minute
When a baby in a pushchair runs out into the road in front of you in an ice storm, despite your best efforts to avoid calamity by waving a stick out of the window, the only way to avoid callous emergency workers shouting at you to KEEP YOUR HEAD STILL between social chit-chat about holiday plans is to plough on. Keep waving the stick.
wtf is wrong with the guy in the car? u dont have window wipers? or heaters to keep the windscreen from freezing up? or you could just pull over and wipe the bloody screen... it's idiots like that who will bring civilization to it's knees
Everyone, everyone who lives in a cold climate should install a woodstove. And everyone should have a wind-up generated radio. A supply of good water. Prepare for self- rescue, people.

This is bullcrap, we had a two weeks Ice storm crisis back in 1997 ( I live at like 10km of montreal ) and we survived, a couple hundreds of old and already sick people died.. but its not as bad as these fucker say it
If it all starts coming true around 2011/2012 then at the end of the day u can prepare as much as u want for most of this cus it will probably be in vein, u have to remember that we r all in the same boat when it comes to these kind of events.
I dont know what will happen in the future but im going to try to make the most of my life while im still here anyway, whats the point in worrying about somet u cant control?
@kingofrsjr: there is a difference between solar storm and sun's maximum activity. Show actually says NEXT SUN'S MAX. ACTIVITY WILL BE IN 2011! pay attention next time
i was born and raised in mississippi and every so often we got icestorms and let me tell you, their awful, you lose power for weeks and driving is a nightmare, you can hardly get anywhere and even if you can get somewhere mostly everything is shut down, the only good thing is we didn't have to go to school but we'd have to make it up by extending the school year, so that sucked but anyways i think i'd rather be in a blizzard than icestorm
it wasn t that bad. I was in what they called the ice triangle. no power for about 25 days. it was like a family reunion! if you knew someone with a heating system that didn t rely on electricity, you were fine. as for outside, we just had to be careful about things that could fall. i was 17 y-old at the time, and i remember i had a great time. not life threatening at all. and even we can t stand temperature of -20 and below.even -10 is too cold for my taste. good thing it doesn t happen often.
In finland where i live, freezing rain and icestorms doesnt cause anyhting special. I hate when americans talk temperatures like -15C would be the end of the world. This winter we had below -30 for few weeks only. When i served in the finnish army, temperatures were like that, we know how to manage in temperatures like that.
We have that -30 C in Canada also. -15 F in the U.S is -25 C. We have these temperatures in Northern United States and Canada. Some places get it for several weeks. Montreal would be one of the colder cities in Canada and is bigger than any Finnish city so it affects emergency response and transportation.
Ms. i live in montreal, and i can assure you that we often have -30c temperatures.... this was not about the temperature, but about a prolonged icestorm, PROLONGED. Again we have a few icestorms every years, what made 98 and what made this perfect icestorm here, is the fact that is lasted so long.
since when do tires screech on ice??? :-)
