This WAS filmed in Liverpool-but before I moved here- the places in and around Penny Lanny Lane are REAL places- I lived round that corner for 29 years and still live nearby. And oohh-the old, green Corpy buses- the 46 used to run part way down Menlove Ave, to Penny Lane, and then into town. That is Sefton Park, which is near Penny Lane. The 'shelter in the middle of the roundabout' is still there- it was run for a time as a bistro called Sgt Pepper's.

Everytime I hear this song it brings tears to my eyes. My grandfather who's now on the other side, (R.I.P.) used to teach me as a 10yo how to sing along with many Beatlesongs, including this one. He was a great fan of the Beatles.

A lot of Beatles songs started out with John or Paul coming in with a basic idea for the song, and then they would collaborate on the rest, or the other would add to the song with a bit that they wrote and couldn't figure what to do with it. 'A Day in the Life' is a great example of this. It's John's song, but Paul added a piece 'Woke up, got out of bed, dragged a comb across my head.' George Martin also added various orchestral bits, though he was never credited for song writing.
