The guy survived, with his 10-year-old son. Apparently it just fell on the drivers side and while it was falling the driver unbuckled his seat belt and escaped through the passenger door. Imo that's skills.
It looks as though the bank would have been liable for most of the damage and injuries. Although the truck's driver was at fault for hitting the canopy, it should not have fallen.
A vehicle striking the canopy is something that is very possible. It should be built to withstand a strike by a vehicle that size.
