Even if Zhang is injured, then it is his problem. Zhang lost in the chinese Superleague once vs. Joo as I know.. So it might be not his favorite opponent, too. :)
zhang jike, has a new style against those defenders, as u can see here, his forehands r much harder, he obviously has been trainin, cuz as u can see in wttc against joo, zhang is just loopin with alot of spin. now zhang has less control, and he makes it harder for himself, then it really could be. and when people say that he isnt consentraded enough, in my opinion, i just think that he is takin it easy, not get to nervous, not make those big mistakes.
@TheL0ler i think ur wrong i think he probably has an injury....i have a back injury and loopin is hell...it reminds me of myself when my back acts up
People you can clearly see that zhang jike isnt trying his best. In his preparation he was talking more than warming up because he didnt want to win this match. Dont know why he didnt win but it had nothing to do with bad preparation or something like that. He just didnt feel like playing. Its pretty obvious...
I also think preparation problem from Zhang is an important factor for explaining the result. I was there and was following their last hour before the match. Zhang was arrived later to the practise area than Joo, was chatting much with other chinese players and he was practising only for a short time against chops, with the help of Chen Weixing, while Joo did a very serious work with his korean partner.
Later Ma Lin needed his best form to play Joo. That shows this game was no fluke. Zhang saw in the first game his best shots were coming back and it was a dead end, and just gave up.
Zhang Jike was playing like he normally does. I just think he might have been unprepared to play against a chopper that day. Some preparation is needed for any competition, even if you're a player in the top 5.
...That, or he was just having a bad day. Are the best not allowed to screw up sometimes? Humans are humans.
I think it was a preparation problem, and Joo was extra deceptive, too. Like, at the end of the 0:48 point, ZJK messes up due to Joo's "no-spin" loop. He was unprepared for it.
People keep saying that Zhang cant be bothered, isn't interested, etc have you not seen any of his other games? This is how he plays! Thats his natural style and demeanour.
Although saying that i do beleive Joo Se Hyuk wanted this match MORE than ZJK and therefor was on form moreson than ZJK.
I predict that 10 years from now, china will pop out a hybrid chopper looper. maybe even a rpb hybrid chopper looper. imagine if xu xin can chop like joo. wow.
I played both games simultaneously and tried to gestimate whether the was any material difference between this and the World Cup. Zhang seems a bit more lively last year, but perhaps because he got off to a good start and then won the first.
I think Joo has stepped up his game here. He seems to get everything back. I suspect Zhang saw were things were going: Joo was grooved in and could take his best shots, and he lost heart. Even a sore leg isn't going to cause such sloppy drop-shots.
I think Joo must have done some special training since his amazing loss to smash-artist Prokopcov last year:
google: Joo Prokopcov
Joo is easily handling some very hard hitting from Zhang. Zhang played very fast against Steger previously in spite of the knee injury. Zhang simply cannot hit hard enough to pierce Joo's defense.
On the other hand, Zhang is not mixing heavy spin slow-loops with sudden big smashes, something Prokopcov does very well bh and fh.
Next week I'll go to see the slovenian open, first experience for me, really cannot wait. BUT I don't want to see my t.t. superstars playing like they were in a recreation centre only because it's not the olympics .....
Okay listen, clearly Zhang dosen't pay any attention or interest in the match, Now, the other young chinese (Long, Xu) were focused 100% and clearly wanted to win. So why Zhang is bheaving differently then his teammates????? Could be the insane idea that he lost the first set, he didn't want to, because of the recent Guoliang's lessons about the importance of the first set ?? Other ideas??
i think you might be right!...that looked like the type of knee injury that wou can "walk off", but then will get very stiff and painful as soon as you are done.
If you look at zjk previous match against steger, you will see at one point he rubs his right knee. I believe it may have given him some trouble or pain. And he did not have his usual stance this match. He stood straight up and missed many shots. I believe this was due to his knee problem.
Joo Se Hyuk will never be able to defeat the all powerful Chinese superstars with his weak outdated defensive... oh wait, he just destroyed the world champion 4-0 and now I sound like a dumbass.
@EdMajinLee199999 I have no idea why Chinese fans feel so compelled to rapidly attack anybody who suggests that the Chinese only lose when they're "injured", but, well, get ready to be attacked. Even though you're totally right.
@JaxAkaJT The question is if he would be able to do those shots if Zhang Jike played at his usual pace. What seperates a pro from an amateur is usually the ability to throw your full body into every ball with accuracy. Here Zhang Jike in shockingly unfamiliar fashion refrained from using footwork whatsoever, and instead swung his arms out wide. That's low level play that is usually not present in the top 100.
ZJK didn't deem to care about this match. His passive play, slow footwork and negative body language were all signs of him not caring. Also he never once celebrated or got more focused. Another sign of him being emotionally disconnected from the match.
@tabletennisperson He's still hitting the ball hard, he's still doing what you'd expect him to do against a defender, but too just simply got everything back, credit to him seems he's found a second wind recently.
@jayjaymatt Despite that, he was still injured...and my point still stands...obviously he's gonna still hit hard against a defender...what else is he going to do?
Joo Se Gyuk´s forehand topspin amazed me, great placement with great speed and spin, Zhang Jike who is know to be a great blocker couldnt handle him, maybe the great different between speed with the chops?
wow, totally surprised by that match. Joo was on fire!
@Lorre200 I would say it's a combination of both, probably Joo's strong performance being slightly more crucial since the tactic with long pips is to give the opponent difficulty in returning the ball and Zhang definitely was having trouble.
@Lorre200 its obvious that zhang jike isnt trying or focusing enough to beat joo , u can see that from his body language . he plays like if he is really tired or he doesnt care about winning the match ...
anyway great victory for joo , who as always was consistent with his strokes
No bro i dnt think thats the case...Joo is a PRO CHOPPER and its very much visiblble that ZHANG is unable to read all the shots well...and if he is reading,he is unable to hit it...
The reason behid might be because ZHANG is not that Experienced,i`ve seen Long and Boll playing against this JOO...nd they almost raped him
@gdounito It always annoys me when someone on youtube says a table tennis player (most of the time chinese) lost because he wasn't trying or not really doing his best. I always give myself 100% when I play and I'm not even playing in a really high league. For these people table tennis is their job, their lives, their income. In my opinion a pro table tennis player always have to give 100% when they play and if they don't, they deserve to loose against a player who is
@MrWaaghals i didnt know zhang jike was injured , thats why he didnt try , man its obvious he cant even run or hit hard with his whole body motion . anyone could see this , joo is a very dangerous player world class no doubt . my point is that an attacker when on top form like zhang or ma long or timo boll or anyone can beat a top form defender like joo , its just a matter of correctly used tactic . results speak ! not me :)
@gdounito don't think so. he played fine with whole body motion. result is mostly due to 2 reasons: joo improved a lot lately; zjk doesn't have that much experience playing world class choppers. zjk's technique was wrong recently. he was doing what wang hao used to do in 03. he's improving too but u can tell he's not comfortable vs underspin. chn usually pits ma lin or ma long vs jsh. they tend to put zjk vs kms vs korea. then there's not really another chopper on par with jsh
Check out Matsushita if you like deffensive play, he is even better than hyuk!
