This video has very nice footage. I'm a patriotic American, and I respect the patriotism of Russians. I think Alexander Alexandrov's music is very inspiring, and I'm glad Sergey Mikhalkov was able to once again re-write the lyrics for the Russian Anthem. Russia is a great country with much to be proud of, and I hope to visit it someday. I'm glad that relations between Russia and the U.S. are much better than they were during the mid-to-late 20th century, and I hope they continue to improve.

This Russian national anthem lyrics are bad. The ones of the old USSR lyrics were a lot better. They full of pride and glory. This new one means nothing. Only the music left. It is really a shame.

The Russian anthem has one of the best melodies of all national anthems ... even though the lyrics are a bit bland. The French have the absolute best melody for their anthem, and I especially like the part in their lyrics where they "are going to water their fields with the impure blood" of their enemies. It kind of reminds me of Adolph and his buddies.

Well, first off i dont mean to offend you or to disrespect anyone who likes this anthem. I know the tune is pretty much the same, but what i mean about it was what the anthem is talking about. This anthem is just saying that Russia is great and how great Russia is, while on the old anthem it tell of the struggles and sacrifices that russia had to endure to become great.

Am I saying that we are perfect, no, of course not. Nobody is perfect. But we do hold ourselves to a high standard, and it makes us angry when other people act like nothing we do is ever good enough. America is the most generous nation on earth. That is simply a fact. We give everywhere to everybody in need, and nobody ever says thanks. Many Americans are so frustrated that they would just prefer to not help anybody or give anything.

The idea that Iraq was innocent is revisionist history. Even though it turned out that his WMD programs were truly dead, and that he was just trying to fool his enemies into believing he still had them, it doesn't change the fact that Iraq signed agreements after the first gulf war and then for 12 years failed to live up to those agreements. They fired on US planes enforcing the no fly zone almost on a weekly basis. So long as the new Iraqi gov doesn't collapse, we will be vindicated in the end.
I love Russia. I love their music, I love their architecture, and the country itself is beautiful. The Russian people are strong and honorable. Which I think has a lot to do with how communism was able to successfully hold them down for so long. The idea of a perfect society has a lot of attraction to a good hearted noble people like the Russians. But at some point you must realize that communism cannot deliver on it's promises. The result is misery and poverty spread out equally.
It's not that Americans are not nice, we are just very opinionated. It comes from having grown up in a society where it is not only tolerated, but encouraged. Some see us as rude, because we are honest.
Also, because we are so independent minded, we do not take well to being insulted. Some people wisely blow it off, but Americans take everything very personally. We are generally pretty defensive, because we are convinced that most people in the world don't think much of us, and we don't think that is fair considering how many people we help. Whether the crisis is famine, flood, or even war. It is America that can usually be counted on to protect those who cannot protect themselves.

It looks like a beautiful country but I wouldn't feel safe traveling there as an American. Maybe one day if the USA and Russia become closer allies but I'm not sure that will happen.

Democracy isn't something you just have one day after centuries of autocrats. we've never had one before. Well briefly in the early 90s and the country was in disarray. Inflation, economic troubles, no one respected Russia, Yeltsin was laughed at as an old incompetent drunk, the Baltic countries joined NATO, and all the state industry was sold off in sweetheart deals to very few connected people. The current swing back towards centralized power is a response to this weakness that Russians felt.
As for Russia it is a safe country to visit ( I can state that without prejudice since I have traveled to many countries), you just have to have common sense and you will be safe.

This Russian national anthem lyrics are bad. The ones of the old USSR lyrics were a lot better. They full of pride and glory. This new one means nothing. Only the music left. It is really a shame.

The Russian anthem has one of the best melodies of all national anthems ... even though the lyrics are a bit bland. The French have the absolute best melody for their anthem, and I especially like the part in their lyrics where they "are going to water their fields with the impure blood" of their enemies. It kind of reminds me of Adolph and his buddies.

Well, first off i dont mean to offend you or to disrespect anyone who likes this anthem. I know the tune is pretty much the same, but what i mean about it was what the anthem is talking about. This anthem is just saying that Russia is great and how great Russia is, while on the old anthem it tell of the struggles and sacrifices that russia had to endure to become great.

The idea that Iraq was innocent is revisionist history. Even though it turned out that his WMD programs were truly dead, and that he was just trying to fool his enemies into believing he still had them, it doesn't change the fact that Iraq signed agreements after the first gulf war and then for 12 years failed to live up to those agreements. They fired on US planes enforcing the no fly zone almost on a weekly basis. So long as the new Iraqi gov doesn't collapse, we will be vindicated in the end.

I love Russia. I love their music, I love their architecture, and the country itself is beautiful. The Russian people are strong and honorable. Which I think has a lot to do with how communism was able to successfully hold them down for so long. The idea of a perfect society has a lot of attraction to a good hearted noble people like the Russians. But at some point you must realize that communism cannot deliver on it's promises. The result is misery and poverty spread out equally.

It looks like a beautiful country but I wouldn't feel safe traveling there as an American. Maybe one day if the USA and Russia become closer allies but I'm not sure that will happen.

Democracy isn't something you just have one day after centuries of autocrats. we've never had one before. Well briefly in the early 90s and the country was in disarray. Inflation, economic troubles, no one respected Russia, Yeltsin was laughed at as an old incompetent drunk, the Baltic countries joined NATO, and all the state industry was sold off in sweetheart deals to very few connected people. The current swing back towards centralized power is a response to this weakness that Russians felt.

You do realize that paper votes are taken to an elector who then inputs them electronically and transmits the results to an office in Moscow. The FSB/FAPSI has the ability to meddle if it wishes. Yes, only R&D evidence of WMD has been found so far, but old Saddam had plenty of time to hide them. Besides, would it make any sense for George W. to enter into conflict on the matter of WMD if he knew we'd find not a trace? Gas prices hit all time heights during W's administration.
Do some research yourself. All the major nation's agreed. Russia China and France opposed UN action because Saddam was such a good customer to them.

Did Bush have those civilians deliberately lined up and executed or was it a combination of bloodthirsty insurgeants, civilians killing civilians, and collateral damage that occurs in every war.

It doesn't matter. Your operation cause much more causalities in Iraq than Saddam's rule. I don't care about moral relativism. I see the victims. I see the figures. And you are responsible for those figures. Morally or by direct involving - I don't care. A lot of "democracy blah blah" .

So you admit your contempt for democracy? I don't think its necessary to remind you the type of utter brutality the Soviets did to the Afghan people, but I know you're a Russian, not a Soviet. No matter how you slice it the US is not the one responsible for the senseless killing that different radical islamic groups do to eachother and cowardly attack civilians.
And lets not forget that we removed Saddam from power, a man who killed 1.5 million of his own people.

I suppose the Iraqi Gov't could have hung Saddam over the ~1.5 million Iraqis he had snuffed during his reign of terror. But 148 was more than enough to finish a former dictator, as it should be.
Friend, I understand yoru pride in one's home country. Everyone should have it. Many in the US view Russia as a nation liberated from totalitarianism yet inexplicably running back to it. Why not celebrate your freedom rather than enter back into false security of tyranny?

Well opening strike against Georgia was by Russian CyberCossack hackers that shut down its government.
It was sobering to see mighty Russia attack a country like Georgia without so much as a squeek to the international community before heading off to war. Everyone agreed it was an act of belligerance not seen since Kabul in '79.

I highly doubt Russia was the injured party considering the world reaction to the invasion of Georgia. I'm just glad the leadership of all the other former Soviet republics and warsaw pact stood by Georgia. It convinced Poland to host the ABM system and your gov't threatened to "go beyond diplomacy" if Warsaw went through with it. That hardly seems the act of a well-intentioned Kremlin.

No, however I live in the city which has the highest population of Russian and Eastern European immigrants in the US. They are wonderful people! Very courteous. Americans could learn a lot from them. However they are afraid for what Putin and company are doing. Totalitarianism is on the rise in Russia yet again, and now the FSB is in control of the Russian conventional military (blocking any armed resistance to Putin or his circle of fmr-KGB bonecrushers).
