This is absolutely horrible. I remembered it was awful but now that I listen to it again after a year I realize it's a lot worse than I remembered. Shitty vocals all the way. The best thing is that falsetto note, the rest of the performance is an insult to soul music and singing in general. Her "belting" sucks and her "vocals runs" are utter trash. She often hits all the wrong notes and goes off-key until all musicality and intrinsic meaning in the song dissipates. There is a fine line between expression with melisma and what Christina does. Even I could sing "yeah-yeah-yeah-whoa-whoa-yeah-eee-oh-oh" on every note and pass that as my "singing style".
I think Christina has a great voice, but she needs to get a musical sense.

Christina is like an olympic gymnast...so you sort of have to judge her on "degreee of difficulty" for what she attempts to pull off vocally! LOL She always has a great floor exercise and "nails the dismount", in my opinion :-)

Her Eb6 falsetto is so clean and perfect and the transition to the Eb6 couldn't sound better. Whatever people, if you don't like the way she sings, at least learn something about vocals before being critcal.

Aretha is in a different league. This sounds like a walrus in labour. X-tincta massively oversings everything. She's so wrapped up in bleating over-the-top melisma that there's no injection of emotion into the words of the song. It's got worse as she's got older... when she was younger she sounded pretty good. She doesn't need to sing bloody two-octave vocal runs per note, it just makes for painful listening. In my opinion. Others will disagree, and that's fine.
I must admit I do prefer Whitney's and Aretha's versions of this song - they have so much more soul than Christina, I don't know it just doesn't sound right. This is a song to be respected and sang as a song, not used as a tool to say "hey guys look what I can do with my voice".

Christina aguilera is a amazing vocalist!!! If you put every pop artist in a dark room strip them from all props, auto tune techniques and lack there of, dancers and stage tricks...she will prevail as the best... its a shame is over shadowed by singers who can be quite gimmicky or who have no talent what so ever....

I'm sorry I love Christina but she just over did the song to much for me, and in the process lost all of the true emotions that the song actually portrays. I really feel like she should have toned it down a bit and sung from the heart not just for entertainment, it would've been 1000 times better in my opinion.

@rynoissophat no she didn't...Shoshana's has no passion (at all), it's not heartfelt, and she sounds bitter...her version is all tricks, with passing tones hit incorrectly at that...several of the runs (arpeggios) have missteps in them...a producer knowledgeable in this form of music would have re-did it, since it was recorded in a studio, and not live.

@seffff Sorry if somehow you got offended for whatever reason, but it's a fact she can't sing. if you like it, it's okay: but I'm not hating. For me there is nothing enjoyable about this video. It's my right to comment whatever is in my mind. I do not hate because I can admit that her timbre is very beautiful, but it's a fact she can't use her voice properly and that's why it's degrading so very fast.

I liked what Xtina did up until the very end. She could've done w/o those xtra runs. It was a bit overkill. She has such a great voice but really over uses it sometimes.
