What I have found Dom is in elements you can set the feather to create a softer cut out and make like shooting through an obscured foreground. I will send and example..
it might make it easyer once you add the solid layer to use the opacity to see the image under then select what you want to use shapes on. also is it ok if i use Photo shop to do mine

@thefirmsk8 I see it all the time in LA on low budget film sets. Its sad but that is what most producers go after. The student with expensive gear an no skills with photography. DP - director of photography. It should be renamed DWAC - Dude with a camera.

Dom you could try and make a key hole affect 'peeping tom' or 'through the keyhole' type of an affect.

You could feather the edges and cast shadows on the model. This would be one "useful" way.
