  • why do directors get the credit, it's the ACTORs that are good and doing all the work.

  • @TheHaloChief117 The director is the showrunner; a movie is usually the product of the director. Besides, there is more to a film than acting; writing, cinematography, set design... all these people are trying bring the vision of the director to life. Besides, I don't hear George Clooney and Brad Pitt complaining about the directors getting all the credit from their multimillion dollar mansions.

  • @TheHaloChief117 That's a stupid comment. If anything actors get way too much credit.

  • @TheHaloChief117 How about the writer? The person who, without them, there would be no film to direct, no characters to play. The writer is the most overlooked person in film history, even today. No one knows who wrote casablanca, or jurassic park, do they. Starts with a blank page...........actors get a shit load of attention man.

  • @jazz4 The Coen Brothers Write their Own Stuff Man.

  • @GoDiegoMcarthurGO I didn't say they didn't. I'm very aware of their work.

  • @jazz4 This Video is a Tribute to the Coen Brothers, The Writers and Directors of these Films

  • @GoDiegoMcarthurGO I know, I was addressing someones point about actors not getting enough credit in the film industry. I was merely saying that writers get zero credit amongst general audiences and Hollywood, Im not talking about writer/director sibling teams. Screenwriters are unfortunately the lowest valued people. In fact, 'Barton Fink' illustrates this beautifully.

  • Great video wish it was higher quality resolution to honor the great source material.

  • Each Coen film pays tribute to another, if not multiple other films they have Crafted. Everyone has a Fav or a Dislike, most everyone that is. O Brother as example is billed as being Loosely based on Homer's "Odyssey".

  • Wonderful Tribute. In The "Corner of the Sandbox" the Coens play in, they are alone. Terry Gilliam pulls a sort of close second.

  • They've made a few great films, but they've also made some duds - a lot of these films dont really have much going for them, when you strip them down remove the cult status and forget the coen brothers mader them - theres a lot of crap. Good directors, but very overrated. Theres more duds than truly great films. Sometime their pacing is all wrong and comedic moments are misplaced ot just wrong. sometimes SLOW isnt always the best way to unravel a narrative. Still like a lot of their stuff tho

  • @smalllions Purely subjective opinion there, I mean despite Lebowski's cult status most people don't even get what the Coen's were doing with it. A lot of them were masterpieces.

  • where can i get all the coen brothers work in a box set or dvd of some sort

  • IMO no country for old Men, barton fink, fargo, and blood simple are my favorites, miller's crossing, man who wasn't there, big lebowski, raising arizona, true grit, and a serious man were pretty good, ladykillers, burn after reading, and intolerable cruelty are descent, hudsucker proxy is ok, and didn't like o brother at all, I am a very big fan of their work, they have a way of turning generic plots into something original

  • there is no ranking(top to bottom) of coen bros films.Every one has its genius.all i can say is that every coen production has entertained me and left me saying thats awesome

  • This is beautifully put together...

  • probably the worst films i have ever seen i do not get their appeal at all!

  • 1. Fargo 2. The Big Lebowski 3. No Country For Old Men 4. A Serious Man 5. The Man Who Wasn’t There 6. Raising Arizona 7. Barton Fink 8. Blood Simple 9. O Brother, Where Art Thou 10. Burn After Reading 11. Miller’s Crossing 12. True Grit 13. The Ladykillers 14. The Hudsucker Proxy 15. Intolerable Cruelty
  • @brickbusterful better info than Wikipedia, thanks!

  • Really good, dude.

  • Great as this is, I sooo wish had scenes from 'Burn After Reading', 'A Serious Man' (a favorite of mine) and 'True Grit'.

  • Great editing dude. Also great editing of the Stanley Kubrick video.

  • @VenusProject2025 True dat!

  • 1. Fargo

    2.Blood Simple

    3.Barton Fink

    4. No Country For Old Men

    5.The Big Lebowski

  • I have to disagree with you, johnmetalheadd, big lebowski was their most popular, but I think either Fargo or Barton Fink was their best.

  • The guy who edited this is a pedophile don't support his work. "BOSTON, Mass. - PAUL PROULX, 28, of Marlborough, was charged today in a criminal complaint with possession of child pornography. The criminal complaint alleges that PROULX possessed images containing visual depictions of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct."

"Paul B. Proulx, 28, of 24 Bennett Place, was arrested on a Worcester Federal District Court charge of child pornography possession".

  • @0igres 8 year olds, dude

  • @0igres 1. How the hell do you know that he edited this?

    2. Why the hell does it matter if he had nude photos of kids on his computer? Is it weird and really creepy? Yes, of course, but you can still enjoy this video. It isn't like he abused children or anything. And don't get the vibe that I'm a fellow kiddie porn fan. I'm 15 years old, so I am considered a minor. Do you really think someone should be arrested if they beat their meat to kids my age fucking on camera?

  • @blablaidontcarewhour Well if you go on his website which is called Bennett media *cough the guy who got arrested lived on bennett st and if you look at his profile on his site his name is Paul Proulx 28 and lives in Marlborough mass which is where this asshole got arrested.

  • @0igres

    Dude, what the heck?....

  • @0igres I know him. Not too personally, but well enough. The key word is "alleges," which means he is innocent until proven guilty. You don't know him or anything about him and have never met him. Likewise, his personal life is none of your business, and does not discount his obvious editing skill by any means. As far as I know (& I know more than you), he's a good guy. & I will support his work indefinitely.

  • Where's Blood Simple? That's my personal favorite, with Fargo second.

  • I think this is one of the better edited vids on youtube. 'course it could be the subject matter that makes it pop. still, top notch edit imo.

  • Immortal that's what they are.

  • Fargo was clearly their best.

  • What's the song in the beginning?

  • @AdamMitchyCat The Four Tops- It's The Same Old Song. It's unfortunately what I call a "wedding song". That of course means, it's played at every wedding I've ever been to. As a wedding videographer, I've been to a shitload of weddings. Don't play it at yours, assuming you give up and actually get married.

  • Best Coens films 1) Miller's Crossing, 2) Fargo 3) Barton Fink 4) No Country For Old Men 5) A Serious Man 6) Raising Arizona 7) Blood Simple 8) The Big Lebowski 9) Man Who Wasn't There, 10) True Grit.

  • What's the movie with all the broadway stuff?

  • What would we do without the Coen Brothers.

  • i agree that they are not visionary and are not changing cinema but not many people are I admire their visual style and their writing as well but for every thinking director like the Coen brothers there are 20 Hollywood Michale bays and i wish that ratio was reversed then the film world would not be so bleak ,, the fact that the number one film in America is directly associated with box office receipts shows the downfall of cinema

  • @drstranglove79 They are visionary. And they make a difference in cinema in that they were two of the few voices in cinema today who are consistently putting out quality work and have TOTAL creative control over their projects. That's very rare. Every up and coming filmmaker is quoted as saying how they admire them and were inspired to direct because of their films. You guys have to give the Coens more credit.

  • @Tigerlily21 no no no i love the coen brothers they are probably the best working today but i still probably would be reluctant in calling them visionary's, a select few like orson welles, kubrick, fellini not to seem too cliche but people like that i look as visionarys and because of the way cinemas going i don't see too many people these days actually changing cinema or how we think, the coen brothers however are the rare glimmering light of hope in contemporary filmmakers today

  • Im sorry for my next opinion. Im not here for trolling or anything but....The coen brothers arent that "visionary" or "artistic". Compared to others their style its either too overeacted or the black humour they use its sometimes not too entretaining. Still one thing its a fact...The rhythm they use its a special one which makes their films be totally different to what we usually see. But i still have my opinion that the coens are like more comercial guys rather than true filmakers...

  • @gol67 i can see what you mean but i think their too off the mark to be considered commercial, i think that their films are more accessible to the general movie going public where as someone like lynch's films for example are probably more appreciated by people who appreciate cinema.. i don't think people would go to a lynch film just because its movie night and its in a theater near you, where i can see people going to a coen brothers film because they take less risks

  • @gol67 How aren't they true filmmakers? Everything they do is completely what THEY want to do. They are one of the TRUE filmmakers who have total creative control. I hope you're not being a snob. You must not know much about them to consider them COMMERCIAL filmmakers. A commercial filmmaker is Steven Spielberg or James Cameron. They are way too offbeat and original to be considered commercial filmmakers.

  • @Tigerlily21 its amazing that they have had creative control since they made they're first film blood simple. And it is very rare. even kubrick didn't have creative control when he first started out.

  • Here's a short tribute to the Coen Bros. I made watch?v=6Zm83qrSqDs If you got a minute check it out and please leave some feedback. Personally I enjoy the video a lot, the first video I've made.

  • I really love these mashup tributes, but I'd love to see an updated one with the three Coen films that premiered since you posted this (Burn After Reading, A Serious Man, True Grit).

  • What is the black and white film with James Gandolfini?

  • @farmermaggot91 The Man Who Wasn't There. Made in 2001

  • thoops i mean burn after reading lol

  • they forgot burn without reading

  • Brilliant video!!! I really enjoyed it and although I've seen quite a few of their films, your vid made me want to go and see the rest of them. Thanks for taking the time to do this. :-)

  • Coen Brothers = two of the greatest directors of all time. I'd be real interested to see them make a war film. Then again every one of their movies is set in the United States so it would be a break in technique. I would say their best movie is Fargo.

  • @shore2222 They've talked about making a movie based on "To the White Sea", a book about an American soldier stranded in Japan during WW2. Sounds very interesting. I'd like to see them make it.

  • barton fink, big lebowski, fargo ,blood simple, i have a serious but hqve not watched it man and im looking forward to watching the man who wasnt there

  • barton fink, big lebowski, fargo ,blood simple, i have a serious man and im looking forward to watching the man who wasnt there

  • 15 people didn't realize this isn't Nam. There are rules.

  • Comment removed

  • 1 - Miller's Crossing. 2 - The Big Lebowski. 3 - Fargo. 4 - Barton Fink. 5 - Blood Simple.

  • les frères coen après Tim burton on fait pas mieux enfin dans le genre weird ;)

  • Big Lebowski was their best!!!

  • @johnmetalheadd well....

  • @johnmetalheadd To be honest (and an honest hypocrite) here, I couldn't sit through the Big Lebowski. I found it just too annoying. THEN I found out it was a Coen Brothers movie. Now I look forward to seeing it. Hypocrite, I know.

  • 2:38 When did the Coens do a movie with Jim Carrey?

  • @4OozT0freedom thats not jim carey. I know they look so much alike lol but the movie is blood simple but I don't know the actors name.

  • @TheBigAL76 I was joking. Just commenting on how much they look alike.

  • By the way absolutely brilliant editing, nearly as awe inspiring as the films themselves.

  • Who can't wait for Christmas Day?

  • my top 3:

    1. No country for old men 2. The Big Lebowski 3. A Serious Man

  • what is the song that starts at 2:20

  • @TheBigAL76 Not sure but I'm pretty sure it's from Fargo if you want to check the soundtrack.

  • 1.) Barton Fink 2.) Fargo 3.) No Country for Old Men 4.) Miller's Crossing 5.) The Big Lebowski 6.) O Brother Where Art Thou 7.) A Serious Man 8.) The Man Who Wasn't There 9.) Raising Arizona 10.) Blood Simple. 11.) Burn After Reading 12.) The Hudsucker Proxy 13.) The Ladykillers 14.) Intolerable Cruelty I fully expect "True Grit" to be top-tier Coen, and I hope they get on to filming "To the White Sea" after that.
  • @Psifonian2 i think your listing is spot on! Although for many ordinary film goers Fargo would be more accessible than the thought provoking Barton Fink.

  • Burn After Reading was just the worst.

  • Fargo and burn after reading were seriusly bullshit films for me. at least the coen brother compensate it with great films l8r.i still dont get why you compare these guys whith tarkosky and bergman. oh also martin scorsese its high above and sergio leone. not sure if tarantino. kubrick its above them . milos forman kicks ass. francis ford coppola and oliver stone kicks ass. the only film that i liked from them was no country for old men which deserved the oscars .

  • @gol67

I'm gonna disregard everything you just wrote. I'm not a stickler for correct grammar on the internet but at least learn how to construct an informal sentence. I wanna be able to understand what you write even if it is garbage.

  • Great tribute

  • An awesome tribute which successfully seams together so many memorable moments..you are obviously a true fan and a discerning critic.

  • American filmmakers such as the Coen brothers, are a reason why the U.S.A is #1. You can tell they love this county by their movie themes. Hope they are able to keep making films.

  • How is Blood Simple so low on everyones top 10? Also, cant wait til Coens adaptation of True Grit comin out this year--gonna be baaadaasssss

  • 1. A Serious Man 2. Barton Fink 3. No Country For Old Man 4.Fargo 5. Miller´s Crossing 6.The Man Who Wasn´t There 7.Blood Simple 8.The Big Lebowski 9.Burn After Reading 10. Raising Arizona Apart from PT Anderson and Kubrick all the other directors in the history of cinema are irrelevant when you compare them with the Coens. Tarkovsky, Fellini, Bergman, all of them. The Coens are funny and deep. No else is.
  • hands down, best movie is No Country For Old Men

  • the Big Lebowski was the best

  • epic video,friend.

  • Barton Fink's the best film.

  • Obviously you're not a golfer.

  • The Coen brothers are the greatest Filmmakers of this century

They are not only the best Filmmakers but they are also among

the most intelligent thinkers of our time. Love them.

    Mozel Tov

  • That was a great video. I would love to see you make ones for Ridley Scott and Oliver Stone.

  • We must have waffles!! LoL

  • This posting got 15 thumbs down? WHAT?! 412 up though, so....anyway

    April 16, 2010

This montage was featured at the end of my FILM 403 (Films of the Coen Brothers) class at the University of Calgary by the one and only Dr. Bart Beaty, media rhetoric extraordinaire in his LAST film class ever. I feel so lucky to have caught it and this class left me with such poise at the end of such a rewarding class that I'd take it all over again.

The faculty of film/arts won't be the same without you Dr. B!

  • Brilliant hommage to brilliant filmmakers !

  • Excellent job! I love the Coen Brothers, this definitely did justice to their work!

  • Awesome. This is awesome. Beautiful movies. Perfection. Great compilation.

  • The Coen brothers are the best filmmakers working today. They are just tops in terms of writing their films, shooting their films, the characters and stories they come up with, etc. And it's even more impressive that they create what they do so often. They work very often not every 5 or 6 years. My least favorite film of theirs is Ladykillers and even I was able to laugh at it and enjoy it. So many great films!

  • I've watched this video like 5 times now (not back-to-back) and it keeps getting better every time. Great video, great directors.

  • whats the second song?

  • @BROKENHOUSEFILMS The Man of Constant Sorrow from O Brother Where Art Thou

  • @zombiemonster im sorry, 3rd song =)

  • @BROKENHOUSEFILMS well i heard it today while watching Blood Simple, it was the song played during the first bar scene, when Maurice turns on the jukebox

  • david fincher, christopher nolan, quentin tarantino, coen brothers, martin scorsese...only a few of my favorite directors

  • I wouldn't say Tarantino is a hack, if he was a hack he'd make a movie every year. A lot of people just don't like his style and references.

  • The Coens average a movie a year. Does that make them "hacks"?

  • @DANATANLOVER Unlike hacks, the Coens have the talent to back up their prolificacy.

  • Bravo! What a well done video.

  • This was a fantastic video. Coens are my favorite directors so thanks for this!

  • about once a week I run into Randal Tex Cobb in the district I work in. He is a very funny guy. Raising Arizona rules.

  • The Coen brothers are genius...Tarantino is a hack !

  • @jsbeerman I wouldn't say Tarantino is a hack. People use that word and throw it around without knowing what it means. A hack is someone who makes films only for money, no art. That's Michael Bay. Doesn't apply to Tarantino or the Coens.

  • Thank you.

  • Also I've noticed very little or no mention of Blood Simple..great flick!!

  • 1.Scorsese

    2.Tarantino

    3.The Coen's.

  • 1. Tarantino

    2. Coen's

    3. PT Anderson

  • Comment removed

  • i also do love Scorsese, but I just feel a connection the most to these three. You can disagree, its just how i feel

  • Nice ending : )

  • 1) Fargo 2) The Big Lebowski 3) No Country For Old Men 4) A Serious Man 5) The Man Who Wasn't There 6) Barton Fink 7) Raising Arizona 8) Blood Simple 9) O' Brother Where Art Thou 10) Miller's Crossing Coen's are my favorite directors along with Tarantino and PT Anderson
  • It's tough to rank them and the top five are probably all about a hair's breadth a part in my esteem. 1. No Country for Old Men 2. The Big Lebowski 3. Miller's Crossing 4. Fargo 5. Barton Fink 6. A Serious Man 7. O Brother Where Art Thou 8. The Man Who Wasn't There 9. Blood Simple 10. The Hudsucker Proxy 11. Raising Arizona Bottom two are the only movies of theirs I don't LOVE.
  • millers crossing goes in top 5 ..that is inarguable bro.

  • it's just my opinion, i thought miller's crossing was very predictable, and I thought the characters were very cliché.

I liked it, don't get me wrong, but I thought the movie was a little pointless.

  • well, you are completely entitled to your opinion and anyone who likes the coen bros at all I have a hard a time being at odds with, however I fail to see how the movie was predictable..its classic Coen Bros. and if that flick was predictable then they all are.

  • @brickbusterful You forgot hudsucker proxy.

anyway, I think hudsucker proxy is the only movie in this awesome tribute I haven't seen, but I do need to watch o'brother and no country for old men again because in the first I was too young to understand and in the second I just didn't see it all.

  • @brickbusterful 1) The Man Who Wasn't There 2) Fargo 3) Barton Fink 4) No Country For Old Men 5) Burn After Reading 6) The Hudsucker Proxy 7) The Big Lebowski 8) Raising Arizona 9) Blood Simple 10) O' Brother Where Art Thou Fixed.
  • @LeLimeLine haha I mean, they're pretty similar lists... and I think Fargo is a MUCH better movie than the man who wasn't there... though that was a spectacular movie.

  • @brickbusterful

    What about 'Burn After Reading'?

  • @brickbusterful Do you find it kind of funny that the Coen brothers start their film career making "Blood Simple" a thriller/murder film set in West Texas and then make a bunch of other films, and then in 2007 the film that gets them the Oscar for best picture is"No Country for Old men" a murder/thriller set in West Texas?

  • @brickbusterful amazing compilation , anyone who loves the coen brothers should see this well done.

  • @brickbusterful what about kubirck? or Lycnh?

  • @themetalman3 different feel for those guys. good directors, but almost uncomparable (in my humble opinion)

  • @themetalman3 i was thinking still working, but i also adore kubrick, lynch, kurosawa, hitchcock, ect

  • @themetalman3 well i was thinking still active today, but i also adore kubrick, hitchcock, kurosawa... and i know he still works today, but i do love lynch too, still havent seen inland empire though

  • @brickbusterful Here's the deal about inland empire. unless you absolutly enjoy and love Eraserhead with an undying passion, then I suggest that you don't see inland empire. I know it's sad, but I have not seen Eraserhead. *cowers away in terror* I know, I'm guilty. However,I have seen everything else Lynch has made. I absolutly adore the Elephant man, and Muholland Drive is ballin, but when I saw inland, I was actually upset and hated the film. and my friends said, "But it's like Eraserhead."

  • @themetalman3 Eraserhead is not like Inland Empire. Simple as that.

  • @themetalman3 i think you should take a chance and see eraserhead, its probs my favorite lynch movie and its only 90 minutes or so, though it feels like 3 hours... its lynch's first film, so if you dont like it then just let it slide, kinda like how i give p.t. anderson a break with Hard Eight and tarantino with reservoir dogs, im not saying those were bad movies, but i cud def see them as first tries at movies.

  • @brickbusterful 1.Fargo 2.The Big Lebowski 3.O brother 4Burn after reading............ true grit

  • I haven't seen all of their films. My favorites however are:

    1.) The Big Lebowski

    2.) Fargo

3.) No Country For Old Men

4.) O Brother, Where Art Thou

    5.) Miller's Crossing

    6.) Intolerable Cruelty

    7.) Raising Arizona

However Big Lebowski and Fargo will stick with me for eternity. They will never leave me.

  • This is a beautiful montage for the Coen Brothers. They would be proud if they would see this video.

It seems that every film they make never leaves my brain for some reason. However each film is special to me.

O, Brother Where Art Thou? was my favorite film in high school; The Big Lebowski makes me throw the middle finger to the working man; Fargo and No Country For Old Men have something nightmarish.

The music at 2:15 sets the apex. The theme for Fargo is creepy.

    Good Job!

  • 1. Fargo

    2. Raising Arizona

    3. The Big Lebowski

    4. No Country for Old Men

    5. A Serious Man

  • Barton Fink's dance is amazing.

  • ive seen some of the coen brothers films, and ive loved them all, but unfortunately, being in Australia, there is only

a limited amount I can acquire from here, which I have all of.

What should I order in next?

I have both seen and own

Fargo, Big Lebowski, O Brother Where Art Thou, No Country for Old Men, Burn After Reading and A Serious Man, and soon I will be receiving Blood Simple.

What should I look at next?

  • personally i love the movie The Man Who Wasn't There and Raising Arizona. Oh and BARTON FINK!. You should see those! But yah, I love all of their films!

  • Barton Fink, The Man Who Wasnt There.

  • Miller's Crossing is my personal favorite. The Hudsucker Proxy and Barton Fink are up there, though.

  • Barton Fink is real good ugene, its real dark and slow in the beginning but it is a great movie.

  • Oh another good movie is Miller's Crossing. Very good film.

  • Hudsucker Proxy... you wont be disappointed!

  • @ugenesfun all of them are awesome. I highly recommend Barton Fink, Miller's Crossing, The Man Who Wasn't There, and Raising Arizona. I think some of those movies are on youtube

  • @ugenesfun Miller's Crossing. It's their best!

  • I've seen and love all their movies, but I cannot remember the scene at 4:31 with the man dancing. Anybody know which movie it's from?

  • @Minnkey the big lebowski. its the logjammin' dream sequence.

  • best part is how you mashed together all of the opening monologues of the Coen's. genius!

  • What a perfect montage of everything coen bros!!

  • GREAT FUCKING EDITING PAL!!!!!!!!

  • awesome

  • this is awesome.

  • Amazing montage, you reallt caught the essence of all the Coen-films here! The climax at 3:14 gives me the chills.

  • What was the name of the film done in black and white, with James Gandolfini and Billy Bob Thornton?

  • The Man Who Wasn't There

  • God, will I ever have a showreel like this.

  • The fact that you appreciate these geniuses puts you half way to being able to have this beautiful a reel yourself. best wishes fro 2010, Hunter (founder Highway Cinema, and film crew alumni from Northern Exposure)

  • Comment removed

  • I'm in total agreement. They, at the very least, have very interesting characters in their movies. I'll never miss a film of theirs.

  • The Coen Brothers . . . the best in the business . . ever! Excellent montage!

  • awesome!
