  • That was actually Karen, KM8Q, operating the 20 meter station as part of the AB8DD Ohio State Parks On The Air (OSPOTA) contest team. AB8DD operated three stations (80mtrs, 40 mtrs, and 20 mtrs). Karen used an IC-7000 into a TA-33 tribander on a 30' portable tower.

AB8DD won the entire contest with 17,220 points. WW8OH was second with 13, 865.

KM8Q made over 200 of the 420 total AB8DD contacts!

Great job by the AB8DD team and Karen, KM8Q!

  • @wa2jqw Thanks for the info ... Your station was boomin in California , congrats on the placement of your contest , any video ?

  • VA2SG , yes Half Moon State Beach is home to huge waves and it is a great beach to operate portable on. It does tend to get a bit windy there , so usually you either have to guy down your antenna or put a bag on the tripod like I did here I like to do this better as it is faster and if the beach is busy your guy lines to bother other people.

  • Thats a Parks on the air station. Great! AB8DD.

  • Nice waves ... and radio waves hi. Thats some mast!

  • @VA2SG Roger that ... The radio waves were just as nice and fun as the water waves ... That is a great little portable mast very heavy duty yet fairly light about 2 pounds
