I used to have a samoyed (pumpkin) that had passes away about 5 years ago she was 14 she was the most beautiful dog as well as a protector a true friend and she loved car rides. everyone that saw her stopped to greet her and ask how do you keep her so white, and what kind of dog is that. What a beautiful Breed. It would be hard to keep them in a hot climate like Australia where I live but I was watching A TV show called Bondi Vet which is a famous vet here on the east coast of Australia and someone had a Japanese Spitz which I see by the comments are the miniature to this Breed. It would be a shame to have to shave such a beautiful animal but surely they have to otherwise they would overheat. A lot of long-haired dog owners have to shave their dogs for the summer months here.

Only an owner of a Samoyed can truly understand the beauty, inner and outer, of this breed. Two years ago I lost a Samoyed, to old age (14) and health issues as a result. I have had a boy Samoyed, he's 7 years old, the best friend, watchdog, gentle with kids, fun, a protector as well. The most beautiful animals in the world, thank you for sharing.

I had one who lived to be 15 years old. They are wonderful dogs and when you look up the temperament of the breed, nothing but good things show up. They're amazing and I miss mine dearly everyday.

We have had Sams for 30 years n have lots of people over who have allergies n none have had a problem. I think it is because Sams don't have "dog hair" , they have fur, thus no dander. They r the best dog breed ever!

Dander small scales from dog hair that can cause allergic reactions in some people. As for ur question re Sams n other pets... we have had Sams and cats for 30 years. Some of our Sams loved the cats, others could live without them... it all depends. I would think it all depends on the sex of the animal... not the breed.  U don't want two males living together. Two females r fine and a male n a female is fine. Also u should fix whatever u get.

He ran to the house but he wouldn't have made it if our boy hadn't broke free and attacked. They malled him real bad. My dad shot a few of them to save him. We rushed him to the vet but they had to put him down. I loved my dog. I miss him.

Our dog sheds his winter undercoat starting about NOW, in March, and it goes on for probably a month. The undercoat is very fine hair and comes out in clumps and gets all over everything. We brush him as much as he will allow. It's kind of messy, but it just goes with having a Sammie :)

Samoyeds are beautiful dogs. We have one, Sasha, who's 9 years old now and is a real joy as a companion. But before you buy or adopt a Sammie, you should be aware that they require a LOT of grooming on a regular basis, and they need a LOT of attention from their humans. They interact with people on a level that few breeds of dogs do. Be sure that you have the time to devote to them.

hi, i have a samoyed too and he is 1 year and a half old. he is a lover! he is very very friendly and he loves everyone, especially kids! he is very beautiful but also he is doing so many bad things like he chew the tv remote, he is destroying each piece of paper that he finds in the house, he goes to the trash can and spread it into the whole haus, he is making a mess every time i'm not home! but what can i say, just when i'm looking at him and see him so adorrable i forget everything! :)
