IF there are any flaws in ANY state regarding church rights on this issue, I agree it should be corrected--a church shouldn't have to marry anyone they don't want to. But, Catholics haven't been forced to marry non-Catholics. The same for Jews. I know of NO story where a church was forced to marry an interracial couple.
Of the greatest tragedies of gay marriage was when the Catholic Church in Massachusetts was force to stop their adoption program because they refused to adopt children to gay couples.
I will accept your word in good faith to correct any flaws that have infringed on church rights after gay marriage is passed.
I have no way to hold you to your word. I can only hope that if Prop 8 is overturned, you will be protesting the government if their adoption programs are infringed.
It's fascinating how simple research exposes a lie. That Catholic org wasn't forced. They chose. They'd been helping with adoptions for about a century, having had a state contract since the 70s that, yes, would and should require any org to respect discrimination laws.
But what's interesting is that Catholic org HAD put children in gay homes before gay marriage was legal. And their board voted unanimously to continue doing so.
Parents absolutely have rights and every school story cited has been spun or downright lied about. In both TX & CA, where I have been to school, parents were allowed to remove their child from classes that dealt with sexuality. Every time.
Cali absolutely has Opt Out Laws and Yes people lied about that. I agree that there should be Opt Out Laws in all 50 states.
But that means fighting THAT fight. Not fighting marriage because of a feared result.
However, if teaching tolerance & respect for different people bothers u, sorry. I'm sure racists hated when schools taught blacks were equal & should be treated with respect & dignity. There are people who get enraged when the Holocaust is taught.
We should not appease bigotry.
Because regardless of when we have equal marriage rights, those ideals could be and have been taught. And should be. If it's ok for kids to say "fag" and "that's so gay", then it's ok for them to learn to stop it.

1. People do not believe people are born gay. People think it is a chosen lifestyle. No one has proven someone is born gay.
2. Let's talk about the background of gays. A substantial come from sexual abuse, broken homes, bad father relationships, etc. Again whether this is true or not true, this was not discussed in the Prop 8 debate.
3. Religious and parental rights are a valid concern. Please explain teaching gay marriage in school in MA and parents not having a rights to disagree.

The First Amendment clearly protects religion.
Blacks and women were granted civil rights through the 13,14, and 19th amendments.
Rights not granted from the federal government falls to the states or people.
Both the states and the people have repeatedly decided no on gay marriage.

My straight best friend came from a broken home. Many straight people do. Divorce is at 50% (at no fault to gays) Lots of straight people have bad relationships with their parents. Lots of straight people were molested.
My boyfriend has a terrific relationship with his parents (devout Christians) who are still happily married.

Religious & parental rights has been a BS argument by the Yes folk. The SC decision said CLEARLY churches would not be forced to honor/perform gay marriages.
IF there are any flaws in ANY state regarding church rights on this issue, I agree it should be corrected--a church shouldn't have to marry anyone they don't want to. But, Catholics haven't been forced to marry non-Catholics. The same for Jews. I know of NO story where a church was forced to marry an interracial couple.

Of the greatest tragedies of gay marriage was when the Catholic Church in Massachusetts was force to stop their adoption program because they refused to adopt children to gay couples.
I will accept your word in good faith to correct any flaws that have infringed on church rights after gay marriage is passed.
I have no way to hold you to your word. I can only hope that if Prop 8 is overturned, you will be protesting the government if their adoption programs are infringed.

It's fascinating how simple research exposes a lie. That Catholic org wasn't forced. They chose. They'd been helping with adoptions for about a century, having had a state contract since the 70s that, yes, would and should require any org to respect discrimination laws.
But what's interesting is that Catholic org HAD put children in gay homes before gay marriage was legal. And their board voted unanimously to continue doing so.

Parents absolutely have rights and every school story cited has been spun or downright lied about. In both TX & CA, where I have been to school, parents were allowed to remove their child from classes that dealt with sexuality. Every time.
Cali absolutely has Opt Out Laws and Yes people lied about that. I agree that there should be Opt Out Laws in all 50 states.
But that means fighting THAT fight. Not fighting marriage because of a feared result.
