@LucyDiamondsMusic I think in this video is was Martin uncoated strings. Possibly 80/20. I forget. These days I use Elixir nano phosphor bronze. They end up with a strikingly similar tone to the Martins, but I rarely have to change strings. My current set has been on over a year and they still sound amazing.
Ha, You talked about capoing at the high frets and i immediately thought of 3x5 By John Mayer and low and behold you start playing it. Nice playing and guitar, i've been eye-ing up the 000-15 for a while and you playing JM on may be a sign.
I haven't used this guitar with any pickup. I don't really play live, and work with it mostly in the recording studio, so it's always mic'd up with condensers if recording.
@jkipcount Haha, once I saw that capo that high up there, I knew I was in store for some good old 3x5. I didn't know it'd sound that good though! Beautiful guitar and playing!
@TheElcoxo Thanks. That's actually a little big of an original of mine called "Leaving". The first two riffs in to the video are from the verse and chorus parts.
I love it. It has a really nice sound to it. It is totally worth it. When I got it the first thing I noticed was it's smell. I hope you are not allergic to pepper because that what it smells like. It is just the kind of wood it is made out of.
rodekill, the 000-15 is worth every penny. Don't hesitate. Buy it now and you will never regret it. You'll never be able to put it down, either. Switch the saddle out for some bone, stick in some ebony bridge pins and string it up with GHS Vintage Bronze strings...wow!
The serial number doesn't indicate which wood it's made of. This happens to be Sapele, and most if not all the current lot are most likely sapele. Sapele is stripey, whereas mahogany is usually not. I find sapele to also be more brown whereas mahogany leans toward the redder shades, though this can vary depending on stain used.
Some Martin 000 15 were made with sapele and some with mahogany. They are all solid wood guitars in any case. Two guitars of the same make and model made on the same day can vary greatly in the action they have. Don't assume that they all have the same action.
The action can be what you want it set up for. When I got mine, it was set up with pretty high action because the seller misunderstood what I wanted, but I adjusted it myself by taking a little off the bottom of the saddle. Now I have my action at about factory specs, no buzz, and very playable.
Whats the name of the first song your playing here? I've heard it before. And nice Martin. Got the same one hanging up on my wall. Broken arm is keeping me from playing it, torture I tell you.
I believe the 000-15 comes stock with a micarta saddle. I've just swapped mine out for Tusq. More volume but very bright with the Elixir Nanowebs I use, so I've just put in some ebony bridge pins and now it sounds great.
Martin makes these as either all mahogany or all sapele. Depends on the wood available at the time of manufacture. Sapele is very similar in tone to that of mahogany. Either wood, it's all good. Nice work, jkipcount!
It's Sapele my friend. Thanks for beanthos for pointing out the construction specs on these guitars. Recently as Mahogany supplies have gotten a little more scarce a lot of companies have moved over to Sapele, as it's very very similar in most aspects to Mahogany.
thanks! the praise is much undeserved in my opinion, but thank you! I have been planning to put something else up soon. I may take your advice and whatever I post I'll do the exact same thing on both the 000-15 and D-16GT. Thanks for checking out the clip!
Beautiful....and I'm one lucky girl who just won one via eBay auction today! Happy birthday to me!! :)

Did you change the saddle at the bottom?
RyanRossBrendonUrie 2 years ago
Yes, the saddle is a compensated bone saddle.
jkipcount 2 years ago
and you changed it to? or you changed into a comp. bone saddle?
RyanRossBrendonUrie 2 years ago
The 000-15 comes stock with a Tusq (man made ivory) saddle. And I changed it to a bone saddle,
jkipcount 2 years ago
Hi there

Thanks for the video.

Ehh you've got something wrong, the guitar is all mahogany! Not sapele! The only thing that isnt mahogany is the fretboard (rosewood).
