My interpretation: He was an F4 pilot who fought in Cambodia during the Cambodian War. He returned from war traumatized and was never the same again. Hence he never truly returned from Cambodia (at least as the man he once was). I can relate so much to this. I suffered a traumatic experience when I was 19 years old and that experience and the post traumatic symptoms it left with me has completely changed me. I can never go back to being the person I was. I can never regain what I was.
