Well, the problem is that even CNN is dependent on ratings and sponsorship dollars. It doesn't matter if they tell the truth. It doesn't matter if they exercise due diligence. All that matter is that enough people watch for the channel to get enough advertising dollars to recoup their expenses, doing news or whatever passes for it.
Doing ratings-based, for-profit television works for entertainment. It doesn't work for news. That's why TV news didn't use to be profitable and why BBC is better.
I doubt it's because CNN does some flavor stories, which if i remember correctly, TYT does all the time, that Fox News exists or even succeeds. Even Fox sometimes does some shit story about something completely irrelevant and that doesn't seem to hamper them or bolster their competition.
