A fine song indeed. I have several albums of Duncan myself but i can't find Songs Of Love And War anywhere. Do you happen to have some tracks of that album?
Great stuff! I can hear that guitar sound that could have influenced Knopfler too, and a few other later artists. I bought the single 'Journey' when I was 17 because I thought that the clasical guitar riff at the start was just great. I'm determined to crack it one day :-) Thanks devenchandler for uploading and especially dynodenney for your facinating insight into an underrated and sadly missed talent.
American Heartbeat was a haunting and wonderful song. Still one of my favorites. Songwriting and performance genius!!!!!! Thanks to you Duncan Browne, and everyone that worked on the Streets of Fire album, a true classic.
speechless here man - Duncan always kicked me in the head and the heart - spent 3-4 hours learning Cancion de Cuna off cassette years ago - still gets me a bit misty
What a great song. I bought the album when it came out as I already had The Wild Places. I remember seeing a video for Fauvette being shown on Saturday morning BBC children's TV when it was released.
I love this song and most of Duncan's work. It's a great shame he is no longer with us. Superb talent! Can anyone help me with the lyrics of the opening line of this song - I've never been able to make them out.
I was the overdub and mix engineer for this album. When it was delivered to the record company they didn't like it. They dropped Duncan very soon after release. We went back into the studio with Simon Philips and others and recorded 2 more tracks 'The Toys' and 'China Girl'. We touted The Toys around and every record company we went to loved it, but there was a lot a baggage from Duncan's previous record deals and no one would sign him. RIP Duncan, you were a great musician and a gentleman.
Wow, you worked with Duncan Browne, thankyou so much for commenting on my upload of Fauvette. Duncan is my fav musician of all time and I would have loved to met him, I love his wit in his songs and his singing accent always amazies me like in Babe Rainbow, so English. Thanks again man, great to know you. RIP Duncan
thanks for the comment, there are a few sort of live vids on here. I tried to share one with you but don't know if it worked. hope it did. All the best
@dynodenny.... I wish i had been around in the analogue era. As a drummer, it must have been creatively demanding to get the part down in one go. Whenever i go into my mates studio, he always wants to cut stuff up.
It was different skills in those days. The backing track was all about feel and performance, and then not loosing it in the overdubs. Today it is all about building up layers. Depends on how you like your music. It was great when I first started in studios when there were still sessions where everything, vocals, solos, backing strings, everything was all recorded at once. When it was good it was great.
Hi there, its a nightmare trying to buy any of duncans cd's. I have vitually all of his songs if there are a few you would like i could post them on you tube and you can download them. Always good to hear of Duncan Browne fans around the world - peace
Chanced on this as I bought a second hand copy of the Metro vinyl LP this weekend. Led me to investigate Duncan Browne. Immediately recognised this track from when I'd heard it as a kid all those years ago. Sent a shiver down my spine and now I fully recognise how subtle and beautiful it is, wow!
Devon, thanks so much for posting this song. I have been searching for it for years but couldn't remember Duncan's last name. Used to hear this all the time when I lived in Seattle around 79-81 i believe. Many thanks!
Thanks 2, I have been searching for it for years on Pirate Bay, Bit Lord, and elswhere but no luck until now....used to hear it all night long around 1980, Orebro, Sweden. Great song!

I wonder if Mark Knopfler was a fan. His guitar leads sound similar to Browne's .

Right.
That's it.
I'm up in that attic tomorrow.
We've got all this on vinyl but I've only had my record player for a short time and I haven't got round to braving the spiders webs.
Thanks for the inspiration devonchandler,God ,I really loved this guy and his lovely lovely voice and clever songs.
