We should be investing in educating parents on effective discipline rather than raising your hands, even these "little taps" are abusive behaviour. Aggression breeds from aggression
I don't think it works to be honest. smacking is not a good form of discipline. but I don't blaim parents for smacking sometimes. I just don't think it's right. once and a while maybe, but I've seen parents who just smack their child almost everyday. when a person gets into that pattern, they wonder why their chidren is violent towards others. they should take a look at themselves.
I live in Australia. It is an dark area as far as smacking is concerned. Everyone is so scared about touching their children. If someone is seen smacking a child in public strangers will come up to them and tell the parents off. I have 3 children and don't smack them. There are other ways of discipline. I have seen parents who smack children and what happens?............the child turns around at some point and smacks them back. A time out mat works brilliantly.
@aussiegirlonamission When i was growing up , My mother or farther told me , Stop that now or you'll get a smacked bottom. , If i was to continue my bad behavour i would get the smacked bottom . Simple end of , They know not to do it again , So you dont have to put them on a mat that they could get of any point and make the problem even worse.
smacking children is absolutely essential for enforcing boundaries and gives the child important lessons in consequences for wrongful behaviour, something that todays teenages lack due to not being smacked.
this has resulted in the " blameless society " where todays youth are incapable of accepting the consequences for there actions. physically disciplining a child for misconduct is a " natural " response that all animals exhibit towards there young to maintain social order.
In 26 countries, child corporal punishment is prohibited by law (with more in process). In fact, the US was the only UN member that did not ratify the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Just a handful of those helping to raise awareness of why child bottom-slapping isn't a good idea:
American Academy of Pediatrics,
American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry,
Center For Effective Discipline,
PsycHealth Ltd Behavioral Health Professionals,
Churches' Network For Non-Violence,
Nobel Peace Prize recipient Archbishop Desmond Tutu,
Parenting In Jesus' Footsteps,
Global Initiative To End All Corporal Punishment of Children,
United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Child buttock-battering vs. DISCIPLINE:
Child buttock-battering for the purpose of gaining compliance is nothing more than an inherited bad habit.
Its a good idea for people to take a look at what they are doing, and learn how to DISCIPLINE instead of hit.
