  • Back when trucks were still cool... :)

  • Is it possible to put a 8v71 Detroit diesel in an IH Loadstar 1800, with the butterfly hood? Fantastic truck, Awsome sound!!! Love detroit!

  • That takes me back. I had a toy tipper truck and trailer version of this truck. I think it's still in a cupboard at my parents house. Great!

  • Thanks everyone for pushing my video past 100,000 views!!!

  • The 2000-D Internationals came only with 6-cylinder in-line engines.... The 6-71 in-line Detroit(238hp), the NH 250(hp) and later NTC-290(hp) Cummins and the Red Diamond (450 & 501cid) series of IH gasoline engines. The basic cab was the same as the International Loadstar (2-ton) AND the International PICKUP truck(!) of the 1961 to 1968 era.The cab was quite short and narrow. With the big Detroits & Cummins engines, 2-cylinders were under the hood, and 4-cylinders were in the cab!!

    NOISY!!

  • Nothing sound sweeter than 2 stroke Detroit Diesel engine. Harley Davidson engine comes a close second though.

  • sounds like he missed a gear, haha

  • @huckster78 I'd say that's an understatement! haha

  • @turbosuperiority hey dont listen to these guys hating driving these trucks is hard

  • @turbosuperiority What about the Detroit Silver 92? What kind of mileage does that one get against the Cummins 855?

  • @turbosuperiority The laugh was priceless!!

  • @TechMaven Ah man.. I was trying so hard not to laugh but just couldn't keep it in lol.. thanks!

  • What kind of tranny is in there? I was wondering because i found a 5 speed on craigslist that was behind a detroit, a 66 ford truck, but if yours is a 5 speed they might be the same tranny. the guy that has it does not know what make

  • beautiful sound... congrats dude

  • Awesome sound man

  • POPOPOPOP!

  • Shes purtay...

  • Personaly I like the 549 Gasser.

  • @616ist, i want one of those big ih v8s

  • thats somewhat of a rarity those fleetstars usually had gas engines! So ur one of the lucky ones!

  • thats just music to my ears

  • thats the best, youd be driving all day with the window down, just to listen

    to the music it makes.

  • Btw, watching this again made reminded me of that part of my favorite movie "Christine", where Moochie gets a lift and dropped off by a Dodge Big Boy with that engine or the 8V71 motor.

  • why is the pipe way too high?

  • Cool

  • I love the 1966 Fleetstar, too bad they couldn't have been school bus chassis' and these are supposed to have the 'bow tie' steering wheel.

  • can i barow you moder.. i want to put it in my go kart.thanks

  • that engine sounds great

  • New videos!

  • Nice 2000, Looks like you guys are havin' fun! Keep those Detriots buzzin...they sound great!!

  • Nice to see--I had a 71 fleetstar tractor-tandemn-250 Cummins-non turbo-13 spd-ex Cp express truck--alittle slow but would always start-no matter how cold or how long it sat--nice to see one again.

  • dude , if ya cut down the height of the exhaust and take out the bend at the top, they sound much better, it then sounds like a roar instead of a scream !! trust me i got one !!!!!!!!

  • I swear when you hear the Detroit 6-v71 taking off, I can hear the same sound in the Pratt & Whitney JT-8 engines on the rear of a McDonell Douglas DC-9, or the Tri-engine Boeing 727...Same Screaming Growl.

  • Nice Sound xD 5*

  • If an inline-six Cummins 855 could fit under the hood of this particular rig, then why not the Detroit Diesel 8V-71N or 6V-92TA?

  • Yeah, not sure on the length comparisons between those engines, but this truck came with a choice of three engines when new. Two were big gassers and one was the 6v71n. I don't think the 6v92 was in production yet. Could be wrong though.

  • @turbosuperiority The 6V-92 and 8V-92 were both in production; they were first sold in 1974.

  • @ClassicTVMan81 The truck in question here is listed as a '66 so no the weren't in production yet if they first sold in '74.

  • @turbosuperiority 855 did come in the 2000. You could get up to a 250 cummins. they laid over to the right side. Come see me i have one.

  • @turbosuperiority

    @ClassicTVMan81

This one is a '66, right? 1974 was the first year for the 92 Series. I don't know for sure, but it seems to me that IH made heavier diesel trucks at that time, which may be the reason bigger engines weren't available.

  • screaming jimmy man you gotta love that howl

  • Thanks a lot for posting your nice video!

  • Sounds great!!

  • hey is it hard to take a stationary 471 and put it in a 345 gas loadstar?

  • brrrraaaaaaaaaaattttttttttttt

  • nice firewood truck!

  • Is this detroit 6 cylinder the original engine?

  • Yeah from what I can tell this is the original engine. I have a specifications sheet from when the truck was new and the 6v71 was one of three available engines.. Thanks for watching.

  • Awsome

  • Comment removed

  • Gotta Love those 2 Stroke Detroit engines!

  • oh yeah i agree

  • I used to drive one just like it only red. I hauled a world of sheetrock with that old truck.

  • diesels if they aint screamin i dnt need em!

  • awsome truck

  • wicked exhaust note!

  • gotta love those old screaming V's

  • This Fleetstar is one beautiful rig. And the screamin Detroit sounds amazing.

  • Whats the N mean? 6v71N.Non Turbo?

  • All detroits are turbo. A 2 stoke diesel wont run without a turbo or a supercharger.

  • No the 53, 71 etc All use a roots blower for induction .All 2 stroke diesel's need them to run, however not all were turbo. This is an N, there is also T and TA.

  • No, not all Detroits are turbos. Detroit made NA diesels. However the "NA" Detroits had a blower, but it technically didn't add any boost other than was needed to run. A 6v71T had a turbo in addition to the blower. And a 6v71TA would be intercooled/aftercooled.

  • Modrona Mia. guarda quel camion matto. Quella cosa è così forte. Suppongo il migliore Detroit deve offrire. stupendo!all'inferno col diavolo.

  • What year is that truck? I bet it's a pretty good hauler.

  • Definetly the coolest Fleetstar I ve ever seen, of course I love that green! Take good care of her!

  • Thank you! Yeah I love this truck and she is a blast to drive! Thanks for you comment.

  • whats different with shifting this truck?

  • The transmission doesn't have synchronizers so you have to match the speed of the engine to the speed of the tranny before it will go into gear. Also it has a 5 speed transmission with a 2 speed rear end, which is a little different from modern trucks that have a splitter on the back of the transmission. It just takes a little finesse to get a good shift.

  • While I know the 8V-71N aka "318" (meaning: 8V-71N with N65 injectors, 318 hp) was never cataloged for any heavy-duty Fleetstar (2000D, 2070A) but was for its successor, the S/F-257x, did any Fleetstar 2000D/2070 owners attempt to put a "318" into their rigs?

  • You know.. you raise a good question and I don't know of a 2000 with a 8v but I've thought about what it would take and I'm pretty well convinced that it would be a lot of work. The 6v is a pretty tight fit from front to ack and doesn't leave much space to play with.

  • Then again, if these particular trucks could be fitted with Cummins' legendary 855-cubic inch six-bangers, then still, why not the DD 8Vs?

  • love it

  • Fleetstar aka Loadstar pumped too much iron.

  • That's very common and average. When ever I get in a different truck I always miss a shift or so until I get used to the RPM's and the transmission. I have seen some guys that are wizards and go from truck to truck shifting perfectly. I admire them, I'm just not that skilled and gifted.

  • i would drive that every day if i owned it. screw new trucks. that's classy.

  • damn that is a nice sound better than a gasser engine any day

  • LOL Hey we all miss shifts once in awhile!! Great video great truck, nothing comes close to detroit diesels noise. I could listen to this video everyday! Make more videos please!

  • Hey thanks! Yeah I bought the truck just for the engine she had and I love the sound too!

  • Ohh boy, to hear that sound of a missed shift... that is a nasty feeling. My fire department used to have a 1983 GMC Brigader 3,000 gallon tanker with a 6V92 and a 10 Speed Roadranger... I have been with a number of drivers and heard that sound followed by lots of cursing! LOL

  • ahh, The old detroits i used to rebuild them in the old greyhoud buses 6 & 8v 71s and 92s NOTHING can beat the old mechanicals, love those old two strokes

  • perfect sound... more vids please

  • Sounds great, love the old detroits.

  • I want that truck.

  • sounds nice

  • So he mised a shift. he did well

  • Awesome vid! Love the screamer! Could do without the guy laughing like a drunk yogi bear.

  • sweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet

  • That's a great truck with one of the greatest DD engines...is that also where you live, it's a beautiful place!

  • Thanks! Yeah thats near my folks house where I grew up, it truely is a beautiful area.

  • Great clip...Keep em' coming. You should do an in cab drive of this truck.

  • Nothing better than hearing a Detroit doing its thing, plus the jake too, thats the icing on the cake.

    I used to run a 759(?)Brockway here n there,

8v-71 w/ 13 speed RR, that was fun!

  • asi es lo unico qe cambia es el cofre

  • en mexico es el dina 500D

    ES EMBLEMA DE LOS TORTHON

  • Sweet!!

  • Is that some Jake Braking?

  • Yeah she's equipped with the original Jake Brake! Works great too.

  • Great truck... I'm jealous!

  • nice sounding 6v, thats a good bark for a 71 series! Do a search for 12v71tt and you will be very impressed at big red express

  • Thanks for the nice comment, I can't count the number of times I've seen your vid of big red express warming up. That thing sounds amazing!

  • its not my video, its a guy up in canada :) Very impressive though. Dont forget to add some oil to todays ULSD diesel as todays fuels are not 2 stroke friendly. I add 1qt of 30w per 20 gallons

  • Pure spine tingling music. Jeess these old girls no how to bark!!

  • i roll my window down to here a dd sing

  • That sounds bad ass

  • well if you cant find it ,grind it

  • it does sound good

  • Prob the best ever sounding 671 on Youtube it sounds just as good as Tiety32's truck. (I think it's a GMC Brigadier or something like that)

  • Yes, Tiety32's truck is a 1979 model GMC Brigadier.

  • great, need to see more of this!

  • nice looking binder!sounds good too.please continue to post more of it on here.

  • It already sounds like it's straight-piped.

  • Nice old truck! What transmission is in it?

  • Thanks! It's got a 5 speed tranny with a two speed rear end. Its got a pretty wide ratio though top speed so far looks to be about 70 mph @ 2250 rpm.

  • IT'S GOT JAKES!!!!! :)

  • Nice looking truck. Sound good.

  • I hear an air horn in this clip...thanks for honking!

  • Straight pipe this monster!!!

  • nice sound but holy shit i like the laugh at 17 seconds! lol

  • Thanks! Yeah I tried as hard as I could not to laugh but it was so funny watching him miss that gear that I couldn't help but to laugh like a retard.. haha
